She was a bit of an annoying bimbo in the books, Tv Shae is a fiery ballbuster, I like it!
Different but not in a good way: Asha/Yara Greyjoy
In the books, she is a buccaneer with a sly sense of humor, Tv Asha is kinda joyless and bitter. She did improve a lot in her final scene with Theon, she might grow on me.
What are yours?

I feel book Shea was more like his wife would of been and that was the attraction.
Despite Tyrions verbal prowess, he still holds a lot of insecurity around women due to his stature and appearance.
His first love has also skewed his perception of trust and love,
Spoiler
his confusion and anger when Jaime tells him during his escape shows this. I do wonder if he somehow will find Tysha, it would be contrived but poor Tyrion should get some happiness.

Yes! Tywin is perfect, and his extra scenes with Arya were some of the best gifts this season. Seeing him interact with Cersei and Tyrion next season should be a lot of fun.
Bronn was great, making him Captain of the guard was very smart instead of casting some other fella we never heard of before. His "Hail Mary" arrow that set off the "Wlidfire Nuke" was so amazing I am still reeling.
I missed Shagga son of Dolf this season, he was wonderful in the first season and sadly was not around for the scene where they tortured Pycelle: "Dolf fathered warriors not barbers!" Oh well.

Ha ha! Yes I can't wait.... The thing is I read books after season 2... I just didn't like HER! Then book Shea was just like you say a whore. But somehow an innocent and I quite liked her. I understand what you're saying about her being a ballsy character , I can't decide if that is WHY I don't like her... she just didn't gel somehow.. I didn't feel Tyrion would be attracted to her.. dunno .
I feel book Shea was more like his wife would of been and that was the attraction.
Stannis, big difference from the man in the books, but I prefer TV version, I dunno you just gotta respect a commander who leads the van, something Stannis does not do in the books instead adopting the Tywin strategy.

HA! That Darn Conqueror above just beat me to it! I love T.V. Stannis . He just plays such a good part... when Davos's son says "100's will die" he goes meh! "1000"'s ...

Agree wholeheartedly. Book purists went ape**** when Stannis lead the van ( without a helmet Oh Noes!)
But it make sense, everything Mellisandre said up to that point came true, so when she says that he will take the iron throne, he thinks that the lord of light wont let harm come to him. Plus, it made the Stannis Vs Joffrey contast very powerful, love or hate him Stannis wont hide behind a womans skirts.

Ok let me just stop you there, I am far from a book purist but I went ape over Stannis armour. Not because he had one in the books, simply because Stannis is a practical man. He's armour was silly and impractical covering only half of what it should have. Also storming a wall without a helmet or shield is bloody suicide and Stannis would have realised that. I love the costume department but they've had some shockers! My biggest headache is still Robb's leather armour. So yeah the R'hllor will protect me argument doesn't fly because why bother wearing armour at all then. But this is no fault of Stephen Dillane or the writers and it was their portrayal of Stannis that I loved. Cannot wait to see what he and Cirian Hinds will do together.

I do agree it was a bit silly. The soldier that got his head bashed by a stone in front of Stannis was wearing a helmet, no? Didn't help him much. ;-P
The armor in this show has been more decorative than practical in many cases, I don't mind tho.

Just rewatched the scene, the guy was wearing a small leather skull cap which is about as usefull as nipples on a breastplate. you see I again mind very much because it's the little things like that that pull me out of the story, I'm just nitpicky like that. Had the same issues with Rome (the Roman armour for the most part looked ridiculous specially the officers' and was the wrong type according to the time period.) Having Robb dressing in lower quality armour than half his bannermen is just silly to me. But for everything negative thing I say about the costume department I have ten postivie things to say.

I loved the Kingsguard armor, on the Blu-ray the detail is amazing and looks badass. Not the helmets so much as they might seem to offer poor visibility.
Anyways back on topic, in the end Tv Stannis' actions I liked. I really wish we spent more time with him, season 2 could've used two whole more episodes, or at least 90minute premieres or finales. But the show is really stretching its dollar so I understand.

Yes I'm in love with the Kingsguard armour and I want to buy myself a set, seriously there must be some way to do that. The helmets arent that big an issue as in the books they have visors which limits the vision even more. Loved the Hound's armour too but cannot for the life of me understand why he traded the Kingsguard armour in for his old one in season 2.
Tywin to me is exactly the same as in the books, he is just better explored and I love that as Tywin was one of my instant favourites, reminds me a great deal of Julius Caeser. Too bad we wont get a Tywin Mance scene.
Another character that is so much more fascinating than his book counterpart is the loveable Bron "enhances it really!" "oh enhances, fancy word for a sellsword." "been spending time with fancy folk.
"Bron son of..." You wouldn't know him."

Oh I have always looked very closely at arms and armour in movies, even when I was still a kid. Dunno have this penchant for realism, probably why ASOIAF is my favourite Fantasy series.

Yara = yuck on HBO, can't stand her. Don't care for the HBO Jeyne either. There was as much fire between she and the King in the North as with my self and my step-mother, bluck! Love the HBO Bronn, Jory, Brienne of Tarth, and I expect Ser Barristan Selmy.

Yeah, I for the life of me I dont know why they changed Jeyne Westerling to...Talisa? The actress is fine, lovely actually, but changing her so much has been very puzzling.
So they made her a nurse, fine, why not have Robb get injured like the book and have her help him and let them fall in love that way? It was quite well done in the books. But oh well.

Some of my favorite scenes were with Brienne and Jaime... can't wait for what's coming up. I agree there was no spark with Robb. Think that's why I wasn't keen on Shea. Whole heartedly loved Tywin, Arya, Sansa,Tyrion, Bron, Theon, Varys, Littlefinger, Osha, Bran, on and on. Didn't have a prob with Yara , until I read the books.
First time I noticed details on costume... (my T.V. is quite small !) was on Theon's breast when he went to visit his father. I noticed their sigil . I watched the entire making of LoTR DvDs... love that kind of thing.I think in another life I would've like to worked in that line.
I may be being naive here, but I think the lack of helms was just so we could see the actors?!? Tyrion also.
I imagine that's correct. In Black Hawk Down (I think), they had all the characters named taped on the helmets so that viewers could tell them apart, even though Rangers don't actually do that as far as I know. Sometimes producers have to try and strike a balance between realism and helping the viewers understand things.
I really love Tywins potrayal in the show, and I think the character is pretty much the same as he was in the books. I know a lot of people thought they were humanizing him too much, but I think that just comes with the fact that we're not only interacting with him through the minds of people that either hate him (Tyrion) or are in a disagreement with him as in the books. Arya was a generally neutral point of view to learn about him from, so it made him seem less awful than Tyrion makes him out to be.
Agreed Andrew if you look at the perspectives the common folk and other lords and ladies seem to have of Lord Tywin you realise what an effective leader he was . Sure he's a **** to Tyrion but think about how many fathers in today's world treat their sons like **** because they fail to live up to their expectations. He's a very Julius Caesar type guy to me and Julius was a guy with a massive over inflated ego. So there are always two sides to the coin. The books make it clear that Tywin loved Jaime and Cersei so much that he was blinded to their incest. So overall a cruel, prideful guy, master strategist, genius intellect, good leader and strategist, loves his family and very prickly about the honour of his house. Even if he realised it was Arya, what advantage would that bring him? He knows RObb would never trade Jaime for two girls. So yeah letting her go is not that great discrepancy and come on he left her with the freaking Mountain, that doesn't sound very nice to me.

Don't know if my admiration of Tyrion is skewed by having seen Dinklage perform the trial in the Eyrie before I read the books, but I hated Shae in the books for not appreciating Tyrion and for distracting him with her whining and demanding, not to mention what comes later.
But for some reason I dislike show Shae even more. I'm just a book purist? She's too good to be true? I'm terrified D&D are nicening her up in order to change a major plot point? That annoying accent?
And yes, show Tyrion is far too trusting of Shae given his history. I truly dread
Spoiler
the violence that changing Shae's betrayal of Tyrion will do to both the plot and to the meaning of Tyrion's bitterness and anger in Essos.

So i just quickly want to adress the Red Keep from season 1 to season 2. In Season 1 it was huge majestic with a clear view of Blackwater bay on it's right side (when you are facing the city not the Keep). However in season 2 it shrunk about 3 times and has blackwater bay on it's left side. Am I really the only one who saw that?

You mentioned that before on WiC and all I can recall from the encore viewing is that it was from a different perspective
in S2. Remember too that a fair amount of Kings Landing was CGI so there may be layers or just a different focus
entirely. There is a definitely a difference visually and as a viewer that's all we can go with. However with CGI and not
real props only an insider can explain the difference. Does that make sense ?
Also storming a wall without a helmet or shield is bloody suicide and Stannis would have realised that.
Nonsense. As someone wise on tumblr once said, Stannis doesn't need a helmet in battle, his claim is THAT good.
Oh I love the work done by Michelle Clapton and the costume department, the detail is always impressive and I've always liked how the clothes always seem actually worn - dust, sweat stains, the lot. It greatly enhances the atmosphere and world's credibility.
Someone on Twitter said the reason Stannis didn't get hit by rocks and arrows was because they all bent the knee in mid-air!
If you think about it many things will seem silly. Like how the Nights watch wears all black outfits in the middle of an all-white environment. How Brienne wears full armor in a rickety little rowboat. And so on and so forth.

Exactly as in the books: Balon, Davos, Littlefinger (ha! say what you will, Aidan Gillen matches my impression of book-LF 100%)
Different but better: Long list, I'll settle with Xaro Xhoan Daxos. And, just to stir up the pot...Yara. Surprise! I love Gemma Whelan's interpretation of Asha.
Different but worse: Tough one. Season 1 Shae. Book Shae was a pain to read, so it was fitting, in a way. But I have seen Sibel Kekilli in other films prior to GoT S1 (her great role in Gegen die Wand comes to mind)and really felt she was a bit out of place there. However, S2 brought a huge improvement.

I'm just saying if Stannis if that was the reason why Stannis did not wear a helmet and shield, why wear armour at all? Why not just do what some of the ancient celtic tribes did? If it is the gods will that they should die today, then it is the gods will, so armour is not needed.

A character that was even better in the Tv show was Syrio. If I remember correctly he had more interactions with Arya, and his great "Not Today!" line was not from the book at all.
Now about the theories that he didn't die and is actually a faceless man, maybe even Is Jaqen H'ghar....now that's something worth thinking about....

True. I really seeing him in the flesh. His wizened personality suited TV Arya, and I enjoyed his badassery.
Oh and Ygritte, she is feistier and a lot more wiley than her book counterpart, and you know what, I love her. Her relentless teasing of Jon last season was a highlight of his storyline.
Quorin Halfhand on the other hand.....eeeeehhh.

Let's not speak about Quorin, some of us might get angry and sad again. Oh the scene with Ygritte and Jon sleeping next to one another!!!! I was drinking coke at the time, laughed so hard it came through my nose, and called my roommate to come see how funny the "boring" show is.

I hold that theory too Ser!
Syrio as H'ghar? I don't expect so. H'ghar was begging for Arya's aid and there didn't seem to be any preknowledge, and I doubt he was acting that part.
Syrio still alive? I'm all for that.

The moment Amory Loch crashed through Tywin's door like a sack of potatoes was totally a surprise and made me laugh so hard I was breathless. And while rewatching Tywin only seemed slightly annoyed a dead man crashed trough his door...so priceless!

Or what about Varys and Tyrion preparing for the siege, when they are on the walls. Varys' one line's delivery was brilliant! Tyrion: "I wish we could converse as two honest intelligent men." Varys: "I wish we could too!" Varys' face just cracked me up!

Tywin, Cersei, Osha, Bronn, Yara (yes, I know she's NOT Asha, but what can I say? I like her better than Asha. I find her more realistic and compelling. I wasn't sure at first but she totally won me over.), Melisandre (I like her toned down witchiness, her matter of fact tone, even her accent... Shouldn't like her so much though, since my partner thinks she's the sexiest woman in the series, but well, I understand), Shae (grated me on season 1 but got me on board on season 2), Irri (though I don't like how they offed her offscreen), Xaro, Sallador, Renly, Margaery, Syrio, Jorah, Gendry, Lysa Arryn.
-Characters I found different and slightly less appealing:
Littlefinger (sorry, Macha), Qhorin, Catelyn (she's one of my favourite characters and I think despite the changes she does come accross very well, and I'm sure a lot's got to do with Fairley's outtstanding performance, but I cannot deny there were changes and those changes impoverished her character), Hot Pie, Lemmy, Loras, Dolorous Edd.
-Characters I found different and so much worse it made me want to pull my hair off and cry "why o why o why": TA-LI-SA Nightingale!!!
I'm sure I forgot several of them, particularly on the first 2 categories, but they're sooo many!
