Black as Snow was kind enough to be the first person to make a donation for our upgrade, once paypal sends the payment to the forum administrator we will get:

  • No more ads ( though they have been pretty unintrusive so far.
  • Chat Applet
  • Mobile site
  • Custom Smileys
  • Local file hosting and uploads
  • New URL
  • More forum customization
  • Oh and that ****ty curse filter will go away.

Stay tuned as these features roll out in the next few days and bear with us as we make them work.

PS: We also received a donation by Amanda Davenport, please PM me so we can iron some things out.

Wasn't even aware we had ads. Good to know my ad-blocked is good for something.
I wasn't too sure about the chat applet before, but it could be useful for anyone who just happens to be in a mood for light conversation at the end of a long day.

I am worried people will simply retire to the chat applet and interact less in the main forum. But I will see once we enable it.

Still waiting on the payment confirmation, it was received on a Friday and it takes a few workdays to clear.

The forum will always be around....the only funding we need is for gold features such as the chat and those features wont need to be renewed till February 2013...so we are sitting pretty.

Hahaha, we should be fine. I just put it up for when we do get billed we see the balance right away, for amazingly this is the only non cumbersome way to do so.

Omar, I can't help but notice that we're in the red. Are they seriously charging us $60 per billing cycle? And how long is a billing cycle? $60 per quarter seems reasonable for a full-featured site, but for the (lack of) customer service we're getting and the glitchiness, it seems excessive. I wonder if this isn't the time to discuss whether to throw more money at these guys or move the forum elsewhere.

I agree. The price we pay is not equal to the service we receive. The forum move has two issues:

1. If we can migrate our topics, if not are we ok to start from scratch?

2. The new forum must at least have the same features we have grown to like here:
Chat, custom smileys, etc

I don't oppose it, but so far we had no viable options yet.

Personally, I would much prefer to migrate the threads, but if it's not possible, it's not the end of the world. We can reconstruct a lot of topics. As for the features, YES, it would definitely need the same features. Without glitches!

Don, I think I gave you two links a while back by PM, with forum hosting websites that said they support forum migration, do you still have them?
I think we should just make a short list of options, contact each one and simply ask them "Look, I want to put some money in your pocket. a. Is there a chat? b. Can I import my old threads and c. can we upload our own smileys?"
Simple enough. Sooner or later we'll find someone who values their customers enough to provide a solution to what we need.

I stayed up many hours last night and this one seems to be a viable option:

Invision forum hosting/software

First I checked reviews:

Ip.board by Invision software seems to be the all around, best reviewed forum hosting site I could find.

I checked pricing:

They base their prices on how many users are online at the same time, our records show that 12 is the max we ever been online at the same time at our current forum, so we would fall in the $10 a month category. I think that's reasonable.

I checked customer service:

"You can contact Invision Power by telephone or email. In our experiences they answered our emails right away, through our corporate email as well as a private hotmail account. They also host an active user forum and a client area. The forum program itself includes searchable help topics for members."

I checked features:

They offer a highly customizible mobile service, plus dedicated chat software. They also have custom smileys and let us use a custom URL.

I am currently in discussion if they could help us with topic migration...stay tuned, I will update this space.
