I love listening to soundtracks as well, heh. GoT and Treme are my current favourites.
Other than that, I listen to a bit of jazz, a bit of folk, blues, fado, flamenco, tango, klezmer, greek folk music - actually make that Balkan folk music, there's nothing better.
Favourite artists would be Tom Waits, Nick Cave, C.W. Stoneking, Richard Hawley, just to name a few.
Currently listening while I type this: Feist - Sealion.
I'm a Joni Mitchell , James Taylor and Palm Wine Boys fanatic because I play the acoustic guitar.
But I 'd like to share some of my favorites with you all so that you'll take a listen on YouTube or Amazon.com. These Artists : Soaud Massi ( try dvd " Deb ) Zap Mama ( try dvd " Ancestry In Progress " listen to Bandy Bandy les Nubiens ( try dvd " Princesses Nubiennes " Yashida Brothers ( try dvd of same name ) Jordi Savall ( try dvd " Tous le Matins du Monde " Palm Wine Boys ( try dvd " Up & Down "
Don't worry you don't need french, just listen and melt into the melody and rhythem.
I'm a Joni Mtchell & Jordi Savall fan as well, Wildseed.
Listening to your other recommendations now. Love Zap Mama - Bandy Bandy, just perfect for a Sunday night. Also recognized Les Nubians from the radio, there's a French station that I adore - Fip Radio, I think you'd like it.

I don´t like soundstracks too much but I have a few I truly love: Bagdad Cafe, every Kusturica movie (especially if includes Iggy Pop), Fellini´s movies and some that have jazz (Bird, the one about Django Reinhardt and any soundtrack with Nina Simone or Billy Holliday in it but I think I have all their records).
Macha: of course you like Tom Waits and Nick Cave. Of course. How about Tindersticks???
Wildseed: my ex husband use to listen James Taylor all day long so I have problems now to listen that sweet man.

I knew it! I love Tindersticks (it´s verydifficult toget their musichere though). Goran Bregovic + Iggy Pop is just .
Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra came here 3 times already. Everybody love them. They´re so so funny and their music so joyful.

Yes, GS=Sting. I listened to the Koln perform in Berkeley 2006, not the original mind you but a rendition,
it was an Orchestral performance .

Till a few years ago I managed to buy their albums here but now it´s impossible. I´m still loving the first one. Stuart Staple voice is perfection. So ´70 this song right? Love it. Thanks Macha.

Okay.....ah...this is a..umm....ladies only...FYI... suggestion. Well to be sure anyone who is open minded and like to groove to Live Music. I'm not sure it is appropriate for sensitive tender ears like that of our resident king Aegon's ears .. but we will do this with or without protest LADIES I ......oops I can't figure out how to embed this video.
Oh well This Erykah Badu singing the live version of " Tyrone".
The Best YouTube Version is : Erykah Badu in Brazil 1997. She is 9 months pregnant BTW
There are several amateur recordings on YouTube with too loud base or Amazon.com, extended live version.
Ladies, okay gents too, have a listen, throw your head back and have a laugh. You know you want to. The lyrics are very important so be ready to recite and sing with confidence to your significant others.
That is all. You may resume your duties :D

It seems I'm too dumb to be able to find it. Could you give pass on the link?

Clare de lune ( Twilight) in fact loads of cool songs from Twilight , but they are actual songs... and the soundtrack. Two tracks I only know from adverts! Clannad (robin hood t.v. series 80's version. Can't think of any more right now ... but I'm sure there is ... :)
Thank you, never heard her before. Her voice is like a balsam, but she doesn't mice her words! ;)

Please Please Never associate " Claire de Lune " by Debussey with "Twilight " vampire movies.
What would your mother say ? This is grounds for treason , even blasphemy !!!
WildSeed .. what can I say ... I had herd the music before , but the reason it is on my phone .. is because of the Twilight soundtrack... however , I had a magic moment in the garden the other day with Debussy in my ears ... a dragonfly landed on me!! There is absolutely no reason on Gods earth for a dragonfly to be in my garden... No water anywhere near ... he was metallic emerald and beautiful..... I nearly cried.

Sounds etheral if you ask me, simply beautiful moment BUT NO Edward and what's her face
What have you done to Macha It seems she likes this too ( ? ) Wwhy.....
Claude Debussey is not to be associated with Edward Scissorhands or Scissor teeth. It is known
Jordi Savall ( try dvd " Tous le Matins du Monde "
I Jordi Savall (even though I play piano, it's the sound of the cello that steals my soul away)!! And the soundtrack for Tours les matins du monde is played in my household on a weekly basis.
I like many types of music, but my favourite "genre" is classical.
About the rest... I need to think a while before I can pinpoint any artist's names... There's too many I like.

He visits the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra on a regular basis. The BSO conductor, Ken Nagano ( also a Grammy winner )
was based in Lyon France for half the year , the other half in Berkeley ). Anyway Jordi loves the area and visited with his
accompaniment , to do this piece. We had a lively conversation afterwards and pressed this DVD in my hand as a
parting gift. There's a little bistro that most of the musicians attend which doubles as a music store. I was there mainly
to buy some hard to find Klezmer music ( the Klezmatic Band I believe ). I think I have Itzak Perlman too. Anyway he
is very warm and humble, I was amazed he took notice of me with his being surrounded by kiss ups and fellow artists.

Getting back to your choices ( I was distracted by the mention of the Tweelight soundtrack ).
I have listened to Clannad but never purchased any music score, what would you recommend ? I've seen Enya in concert
here. I adore "the Lord of the Rings" soundtrack and own both movie and music soundtrack. No Sting or Lady Gaga ?
Claire de Lune.......well lets not fight about that..........I could take you you know, that is if your teenage son isn't helping
WildSeed wrote:We had a lively conversation afterwards and pressed this DVD in my hand as a

Wow, that's awesome! So jealous! I saw him play on the Clos Lucé castle in Amboise, but I never had the chance to meet him. I'm glad he acted the way you say, makes me like him even more.

Ok. I think the only way I can mention any performers / composers / directors I like would be by bringin them up one by one. So to start with, for no reason other than I happened to be listening to them at this moment, I enjoy very much the feisty guitarduelling of Rodrigo y Gabriela. If you never heard of them, click on the link, you won't regret it.

So glad you liked them! They started busking (sp?) in the streets of Ireland (this country is a paradise for buskers, the good, the bad, the great, and the terrible) and they come very often so I've been to quite a few of their concerts. They're so amazing and charming live. You'd think there's 10 people playing, not just 2 guitars.
I enjoy the auld Gypsy Kings, very much. :) Such a wonderful sense of rythm, it gets my feet dancing every time.

Must edit because it´s Can Can not Chan-Chan. Those guys are amazing. I didn´t see the movie though.
I will introduce this wonderful argentinian singer: it doesn´t matter if you don´t understand what she´s saying, she´ll steal your soul anyway just for a few seconds. Her name is Mercedes Sosa (very young in this video) and the song is called "Ay, este azul" (Oh, this blue).

Oh that was divine! What a wonderful voice she has. I knew of Mercedes Sosa, but I've never sat down to listen one of her songs.
want more? In my blog there´s another Mercedes´s video if you want to check. I should make a list of her best songs (though she only interpreted, she wasn´t a composer or song writer). Yes, she was wonderful.

I'm just listening to her song "Gracias a la Vida". Well I don't know who originally wrote the song, I only heard it sung by Yasmin Levi so I was really surprised by this - oh how I love it! This woman is amazing.
she was famous already but that song made her universal. "Gracias a la vida" was written by Violeta Parra, Chilean singer & song writer (that was a tough woman).
Here, this song was written and composed by the lovely and talented Pedro Aznar (Argentine rock-jazz musician, who was Pat Metheny´s bassist for a long time): It´s called "Deja la vida volar" (let life fly), a sweet and very passionate song. If youn don´t understand the spanish, just tell me.
Mercedes is old here (she died last year), still her voice is very poignant. I think you´ll enjoy Pedro´s voice. This is from the album "Cantora", one of her latest records where she sings with composers and singers she liked the most.

My favourite new-celtic band: Flook. They do amazing celtic fusion stuff as well.
If anybody here likes that type of mysic, visit their MySpace. They've got such energy and creativity!
You can see the band members here, but the sound quality is not as good and is full of show shennanigans
Their flute/tin whistle player, Brian Finnegan, is so incredibly cool. He owns the stage, no matter the size, and the world vanishes around you. Just with a flute! *sigh* (He's so damn sexy too... *cough*) For a sample of his solo work, I suggest this one or this other one.

@andrea La llorona, Adorro, Flor de azalea, Luz de luna, I love them all.
Ha ha, Romanian is a bit tough to learn on your own until you have to hear the pronunciation of some letters. After that, it's a phonetic language and easy to read.
Here, for a taste of how it sounds (Maria Tanase was a famous singer of Romanian folklore):

I'm good at understanding spanish, I've just lost fluency when I try to speak it, I can't remember the words. But I don't need subtitles when watching movies, for example. Let me guess...you're a Chavela Vargas fan as well? I adore that woman.

I've been meaning to ask you, did you study it, live in a Spanish speaking place or you just found it easy to understand given its simmilarities with Romanian?
Andrea, La Negra Sosa es una leyenda. Creo que mi preferida es esa "Gracias a la vida". Cuando escuché que había muerto, corrí a poner esa canción, y lloré como una perra.

Tir, I studied it for about 10 years and yes, it does come easy because it's quite similar to Romanian. I understand quite a fair bit of Italian without having studied it, on the same basis.

You must indeed know a lot then! I know what you mean, same happens to me with French, Italian and Portuguese. But you shouldn't feel bad about not remembering words, I often struggle for words while chatting with my own family! *shame*

I was about to ask the same, go figure. Of course I love her. ¿"La llorona"?
how do I learn Romanian?
Tir: durante mucho tiempo no le presté tanta atención a la Negra Sosa, tenía una especie de aversión por el folcklore pero escuché un chamamé una vez y me enamoré: Rio de Camalotes. Soy una chica del Paraná, qué puedo hacer.
