So what else are you guys into?

I also dabble in photograpy and videography. I just purchased my second DSLR and am currently saving up for a big equipment upgrade this Fall. Even writing a few silly scripts and maybe a shoot a short film.

I also lead a small local photograpy club and we just had our first excursion a few weeks ago, we hope to make it a monthly thing.

I am an avid runner, I ran a 10k last year but an injury had me sidelined and I had to start over. But I am looking forward to slowly get back into it, I should be back up to 5k shape in a month or so.

So....what about you guys?

I just got my Olympus E620 last year and enjoying nature for the first time in my life. The camera
and lens were a gift from a friend and photographer that owned it for only 4 months. He owns
several cameras and was open to purchase another. Seeing that he used my home to gage a few
shots of birds of prey, it was and thank you and birthday gift. Now I have framed art throughout
my home. I'm gonna send you one of my favourites, of course I'm just a novice.

I'm a hiker and can't understand why people run for leisure ( unless you're being chased by a wild
turkey in my case ), must do it because of the endorphins I guess :D

I have a Canon 650D, I love it. I do need to invest in new lenses.
What do you use? There is a nice bird sanctuary here and I would love to snap some shots of the little chirpers.

The endorphins are definately it, plus I am not very athletically competitive, I like when you run, you only opponent is you.

I need to buy a long range lens because I'm surrounded by massive Sequoias and giant Redwoods with

Eucalyptus groves of 200 + feet as well. So far I get close range photos with a .96m / 3.2 ft , if that's

the right info. The lens hood reads LH-61E. I feed at least a hundred wild birds a day with many

regulars returning seasonally. You name it it's here. Go to this website and see my neighbours

pictures, I submitted 1 or 2   < www.nhwildlife.net > go to Wild Life Gallery / Birds. Try others too.

There was a Peacock on the loose up here for a few years ( probably quite tasty for the Mountain Lions ).

One neighbour shared that he has trained 2 ravens to recognise and follow him and his vehicle, said he

leaves chipped bones and meat for them confuse. My guess is the pasture animals bear no fear for the roaming

cats, the deer are more at risk. It's kinda wild here and just minutes from San Francisco but the entire

Area is just like that. In commercial farmland , located mostly south of me is frightfully dangerous at night.

Well, look for my photos.

I'm a bit of a fitness nut, so I'm always excercising or in the gym. When I had my shoulder op and my appendix taken out all within two months I wanted to go crazy! Never before then have I ever sat still for so long, wanted to die! Also love going for walks and mountain climbing, have one right behind where I live that I have often explored. There's a beautiful waterfall behind it that I love to go swimming in. I obviously write and read a lot, and I'm also an avid gaming fan.I'm also an absolute movie nut and love to write movie reviews just for fun.

oh, I don´t have too much time to do leisurely activities those days. I live in the middle of a large prairie where there is not much to do so when I have time (and money) I travel. in a few days I might have the opportunity to travel to Península Valdez to do whale sighting! So, I will train only my eyes???
Some of you know that I love sports. I've played sports since childhood but except water polo, none that included a ball in the game. The only sport that I never abandoned (and my favorite) is swimming, I swimm every day and sometimes walk but when I'm near a mountain or a river I go wild and want to do everything you can do with a mountain or a river ... what usually ends in accidents and that led me to do yoga too to ease my spine.no

I usually take lots of pictures when I'm traveling, of course but I don´t  take pictures of people (except if they  are in a rally or if they are children). My Camera? is almost a relic

Umm. I hate to " exercise ". I've been walking to destinations for my entire existence so far and only
learned to drive a car in college. I love to walk and hike to revisit nature and remind me why I'm alive.
No matter the country or city there is beauty and I seek it out. Nature sustains me is all, it's familiar
and calming ( great for digestion too ). I used to camp in national parks for the entire summer but
these days that's just naive and dangerous unless you have a mate or buddy. These days I fear the
2-legged predator more than 4 -legged. My house has views of countryside Bay and Ocean.

Aegon the Conqueror you are truly blessed. I hope you never forget what you described of your
home and country. It never means more until you leave it.

Donal Noye you must know of beautiful water side vistas too. In the States people pay 7 figures
or more to glimpse from their decks ( luckily I sold my previous home to facilitate, I'm poor now )
Always take those images with you.

Cut yourself some slack Macha :D . Are you from an urban area or major city ? I understand that
sort of original lifestyle have many exploring nature habitats as a conscious or 2nd choice
because it's out of the norm. It would be the same for me to not easily adapt to an urban or major
city environment. I've stayed in New York for a few months and only saw trees in Central Park
( Manhatten ) I thought Dr Who had dropped off on another planet, I could't breathe properly.
I detest mass transit but I do so so as a practicality as I travel and blend in. San Francisco is
and Florence are beautiful to me but so noisy and distracting. I seek out the countryside
wherever I go because it sustains me.

YvyB are you anywhere near the water's edge? What country are you in exactly ? I 'm thinking
England but I also considered elsewhere ? Peat Boggs maybe ? the Cranog ?

The only time I lived with roommates was with my family and college. I had to get away for privacy
and solace.

Ugh, this thread makes me feel like such a lazy bastard.
I used to play quite a bit of volleyball and tennis...back in high school.

I should thank R'hllor for blessing me with pretty good genes, because somehow I manage to stay fit without working out. I confess, hitting the gym or running around by myself seems pretty pointless (not to mention boring as hell) to me. If I have a few hours to myself and I'm not reading or watching a movie, I'd rather: a) sleep b) have a glass of wine on the balcony while tending my flower pots (this is as close to gardening as I can get, living in the city) c) cook d) knit (yeah, yeah, laugh all you want, but winter is coming! )

You know, come to think about it, I'd make a hell of a housewife.

@Aegon: I am also a movie buff, it was my original major in college.
Other than some amateur video projects what remains is a huge DVD collection that is being upgraded to BluRay.
The home theatre is my baby, other than a 50 inch HDTV and Dolby Digital/ DTS surround sound system, who needs medical insurance right???

I also hope to take Scuba lessons early next year, I live on an island with pristine beaches and only swim in it once a year. :-/

Wildseed - Major city, capital of Romania. Born and raised, so I'm used to it (and love it, both the good and the bad). It's not that far from the sea actually, or the mountains, so weekend getaways are always an option. Time always seems to fly so much faster in the city though. With my job and my volunteer work (assistance for elderly persons) I've become much lazier in my spare time, so I'd rather do something truly relaxing than go off hiking, for example, though there was a time I used to love doing that, if only for the views.

Have been to Michgan International Speedway many times, Charlotte Motor Speedway, and Darlington Motor Speedway.  Always wanted to go to Talladega but haven't.  Boogie boarding is catching and riding waves on your belly on a smaller board than surfing.  We do get some donated veges and most are indiginous to the North.  Some odd pears but otherwise lots of regular stuff. We took 67 familys through in 3 hours on Saturday morning.  How much you receive depends on how many in your household.  We have "free tables" out front where when we're through they can have handfulls of packaged food that we have an abundance of.

Ummm......didn't you already die  your ( old ) grace :D Methinks your sleep habits are ongoing because

         you aren't awake. (?)

Eight hours ? Really? We are very different. I rarely get that much ( have been known to average 6 but

have survived for a ten hour day with only 4 hours of sleep.). The body needs it's owner to regenerate

for as long as it requires though, and your sports regiment adds up to quite a beating on the ole' cog.

As of late I've been urged to sleep longer, but as I'm day person I feel like I've missed out on too much.

Damn the forgive die comment was supposed to be in the chat thread!!!!!
Well we are actually encouraged to sleep much, not only does it regenerate the muscles etc but it causes a spike in testostarone which helps the physical performance.

There are many that would easily trade your environment for theirs, but I know what you mean,

leisure or pleasure is personal choice . Your choices sounds wonderful to me.

I would say 95 % of my photo taking is of animals and scenery and vistas. When I went to Europe

in 2004, I took a camera along for the first time and have external pics of historical sites and

native plants and animals. Before that I only kept mental pictures with the hope to daydream and

remember them. Still, my stay in Switzerland produced pictures of cows otside the chalet I stayed in.

You don't wanna know the weird and wacky shit we are encouraged to do, when I read through it the first time I burst out laughing.
Well seeing as it doesn't help me grow and I'm one or two years younger, no, unless your aiming to build some muscle.

Hey there, I live in a mad house of teenagers and dogs and cats.
In the heart of Northumberland . I love history, researching my family tree, anything I can Google !
My garden, I work in retail but tuned my love of Knitting and Crochet into a side line... Earns me a bit extra come Christmas!
When we get the chance we go Hiking in the Highlands or The Lake District , where I take photo's of anything and everything.
My laptop is my best friend and I'm happiest with a bottle of wine when everyone's in bed and the day is done . Oo like now ! Ha ha.
I only read when something grabs my attention. ASOIAF being such. My next read will be Dunk and Egg or Winds.. which ever come first :D

yes, animals, trees and especially for me, WATER (you can play with velocities and light): lakes , rivers and waterfalls.  I also love to take pictures of flowers  and strange insects and butterflies (such a silly girl).

When I say I don´t take pictures of people I mean that if you look at my photos is very rare to find someone posing to the camera. Sometimes I have to take a picture of myself so people believe I was there.  And as in these days everyone has a digital camera nobody would chasing me to be photographed in front of a famous church or eating something exotic.

I like to do many many things: yes, knitting too (is like therapy, my mind goes blank), I draw and paint and blah, blah, blah but I just can´t now. cryif any of you studied history will understand what I´m saying.

I got you. And I just knew there  was much more to envision and and appreciate where you live. Though

sometimes as you mentioned , a change of pace is in order to enliven your spirit . An hour , week or day

away is quality time and holiday well deserved. Unless you're a Lannister or Targaryeon, we work to hard

and deserve every bit of a break. I took a tour of museums and castles through Europe to bring my love

history alive. I studied there etchings in the stone, murder holes and dungeons to discern their use

and realise the despair of those entrapped. let's hope we the people have learned lessons of the cruelties

of war and the unnecessary suffering it produces. The history courses I took romanticised war or

victors ( except the art history ). I learned so much more bringing along my Rick Steve's guide book

and speaking to to docents if viewing proved incomplete.

I hope you get some quality time sooner than later :D

Aw, I almost cried. Yes, much of historiographical "schools" still glorifies the victorious and the powerful, but there are another kind of wonderful historians too that writes about the forgotten of history. My university has wonderful professors trained in those fair and inspiring historiographical schools. And each class is a blast. We don´t even realized how similar we are to our past. It´s a tragedy sometimes so, about learning lessons, I don´t know. History proved that we learn nothing at all, but the wonderful thing about history is that it always carries the possibility of hope. History should be able to stopped or pause just every now and then  to give humanity a chance to prove its worth.

Thanks, what you wrote touched the history freak in me. And yes I do need a little break... and I would love to simply  watch whales breathe.

It's so nice to see other photography buffs here. That link to your video didn't work DNA, can you post again since I'd love to see it! I have a Nikon D700 for about 2 years now, went crazy watching figure skating in 2010 and actually chased that around for a while to photograph the beauty. Still working on organizing my photos for a website, though haven't really pushed it much since I had a couple of surgeries this past year and am still healing. Hopefully soon I'll be able to get that heavy camera up to my face again soon, in the meantime am taking lots of photos of my shadow cats with the iPhone. Also working on writing some music for a play with a friend, who knows if that will ever go anywhere but one must stay out of trouble. Jaqen and I have not children, we found each other late so the kitties are our babies, you know how that is.

I hope to shoot more tests in the coming months, and they might not be as peaceful as this. heh.

That was beautiful, Omar! Wonderfully shot.

I laughed when I saw this talk of butterflies because this happened to me last night: I was almost asleep and felt something on my leg, I pulled the covers and there it was - a small black and white butterfly (just like the first one that appears in your video, they're quite common here). I nearly melted, went for my camera, bumped into some walls on the way, but the little guy flew away as soon as I returned. Good thing my dog wasn't around, she would have eaten him on the spot. hmm

Oh, that was pure luck Macha. I loved the white butterfly in DNA´s video. I live in a small town surrounded by cultivated land, profusely fumigated, and that´s the reason we can´t see butterflies (or any other intriguing insects) like 10 years ago.

Wait was it a butterfly or a moth?
Did it have a skull on its back?! :-O

It was a butterfly, I know moths when I see them. I just can't believe I managed not to squash it. Woke up with it again this morning, flying around the room. There shouldn't be any this time of year, but it's still pretty hot outside.

Finally I got to view,   smile   AMAZEBALLS !! Great work and subject.

Maybe you can get work in the Riverlands with house Tully, stay clear of the Twins tho.

Did you get my bird pics ?

I have the equipt and means but not up to speed ( intellectually ) to put mine together.

You'll love the Monarch farm in California too, they ship to weddings all over the country.

You must visit Costa Rica , you may end up there as an extended vacationer.

Although I prefer to play Racquetball , I am an avid Tennis Fan and may watch for hours or days.

I just happened to see a great match between Tomas Berdych and Andre Federer. There was a 5th
set as both men duelled with equal strength. Still, Tomas made the Czech people proud with a
decisive win . Damm that was good.

I missed Serena Williams but I've seen her perform many times. Miss her sister being in the finals tho.

I'm an avid tennis fan as well, however in the last couple of years I've been a little out of touch with the main tournaments. I must confess I grew tired of Federer sweeping everything, and I can't seem to find any woman tennis player to root for - last one probably being Justine Henin, so yeah, I'm a little outdated.

Movies of all types, particularly action/martial arts/kung fu/samurai movies, are also a woman's passion. There is a stack waiting for me to get off my GoT kick and return to watching. Now that Netflix is there, it seems the watching hours can be endless whenever there isn't anything on TV to watch. We do like the Netflix.

I have three categories of activities.  First, I love target shooting.  If it weren't so expensive, I would do it every chance I get.  Second I love nature walks and learning to identify the wildlife and plants I encounter.  Third, I love learning and practicing home and farm-related skills, like making cheese, candles, soap and that type of thing.  And sleep.  I'm so exhausted by the weekend that an extra nap is sheer luxury.

The Wardon of the North, my dad, used to shoot "clay pigeons", and the ones he didn't hit, my siblings and I would gather up after he was done and he'd try again.  That was fun.

Do you like Bruce Lee and/or his movies? Do you do any martial arts yourself or Jaqen?
