Ok. This can hardly qualify for "under the radar" given it was nominated for an oscar. But it's such a poignant underrated movie that it was the first one that came to my mind when I read your comment, and since it doesn't fit in the other movie threads, I'll post it here. This is the trailer.

This is a topic for all those little gems that flew under the radar. Indie, foreign, you name it. If it stayed with you, tell us about it!
I'll start, because I remembered this today. Nothing Personal, a 2009 Dutch-Irishmovie, writtend and directed by Urszula Antoniak, with Lotte Verbeek and Stephen Rea. It's a quiet movie, sad but very tender, with a beautiful cinematography and featuring the wonderful - though bleak - Irish scenery. Here is the trailer.
Not sure if this one can be called under the radar either but I stumbled upon it by chance, and I loved it. Here's the trailer if anyone's interested.

I've seen the Debt earlier this year, I really liked it! Jessica Chastain is gorgeous, and a tormented Ciaran Hinds always works wonders. Now I'm curious to see the original Israeli film but I couldn't get my hands on it.
And speaking of Israeli films (and if you're into foreign productions), I highly recommend this one - The Band's Visit. Here is the trailer, it's a funny, delightful film, the kind that makes you love everybody after watching it.
This movie shouldn´t be here but it is what it is. Maybe one of the best movies in recent years. I can´t even explain how much I LOVED IT. "Submarine" by the funny Richard Ayoade (IT crowd). Young actor Craig Roberts is absolutely wonderful and of course the lovely and talented Sally Hawkins.

The Band's visit was fantastic. I also saw a Spanish film, The Secret in their eyes, great murder mystery set in Argentina, I think. Then I recently saw The Flowers of War, a new film by Ang Lee with Christian Bale and Ziji Zhang. It was heart-wrenchingly beautiful.

I watched Leon (the Professional) last night again. It's an old Luc Besson piece filmed in English featuring Jean Reno and a very juvenile Natalie Portman. I'd forgotten its awesomeness.

I love that movie! Natalie Portman carrying around that plant is so precious. She's president of the junior BAMF club.

Yes! I loved that movie , I forgot that was her as well ....
Macha, yes! I just haven't seen Brokeback Mountain yet. I also still need to see The Professional. I saw Headhunters with Nicolaj in it last night, very nice. Also watched the first three episodes of Downtown Abbey. Love Rose Lesie's scenes. Seeing two GoT actors makes me all fired up for next year.
P.S. Aegon, District 9 is awesome.
If you also want to see something disturbing but intense, watch The Living ad the Dead, a movie about a guy with schizophrenia who has to take care of his sick mother. The way it was done was really interesting, it's a British film.

I watched Headhunters about a month ago, it played at a festival here. Was it just my impression or was the movie dubbed in English? The sound was all weird.
I have just watched a beautiful, beautiful film, and all thanks to andrea - Las acacias. Amazing how much can be conveyed with so little dialogue. I imagine this is really an obscure movie, but if you ever have the possibility to see it, do. It's slow and simple, but very touching. And most of all, real.

oh, I´m so glad you watched it. It´s a perfect movie. I don´t even know what to say about it. Oh yes, I know one thing, friends of mine did Las Acacias. So proud.

About "Las Acacias" I should say some film makers and production companies must learn to make this kind of movies. There´s not particularly beautiful and witty people nor all the other nonsenses we´re used to but they´re all so charming and from this world. Give it a chance. This movie squeezed my heart. And Anahí!!! Come here baby!

Anyone seen the South African film Spud co-starring John Cleese? It's very good! Told from the perspective of a South African boy during the waning of the Apartheid years. Really funny! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig7mJTfWuTY

And I Leon ! One of my all time faves ... Gary Oldman can do no wrong in my eyes ...
Gary Oldman is my all time favorite bad guy. Hey, can he play someone in GoT? Please?
He could play probably almost everyone. He's one of the biggest chamaleons I've ever seen on screen. Big fan.

I feel like a widow. My favorite (and only) Argentinian director just died. RIP Leonardo.

This one has to be one of my favorite non-pretentious, family movies. It's just too sweet for words. At this point, I think I know it by heart. And Peter O'Toole is simply wonderful in it. It's called "Dean Spanley" and you can see the trailer for it here.
Me and Mr. Tir are huge fans of that movie, it soooo goddam sweet! Plus, you never look at dogs the same way...

Sam Neil in that scene, chasing a cat... Tir, reaaaally??? It's the same with me and Mr. Macha. We always quote lines from it. One time we were at this party and our host served us with Tokay - you can imagine the faces we pulled, we couldn't stop giggling.
If you like dark comedies, as I am pretty sure most of you do, then check out "Safe Men". It has Sam Rockwell, Steve Zahn, Paul Giamatti, and our very own Peter Dinklage. Its about two failing musicians who get mistaken for safe crackers. Fucking hilarious.

Saw it, many years ago. It is hilarious! Steve Zahn was so funny in this movie.

This movie is not an Under the radar one but also not old. I´m watching "Brave", not finish yet. One line with Scottish accent: "feast your eye".
Nice and disheveled princess and there´s no Prince Charming which is good...just things a daughter should amend with mamma.
But yeah... they almost killed her... fucking Disney . Tell yo kids.

One more under the radar that I truly loved: "Ulee´s gold" ("El oro de Ulises") by Victor Núñez, starring the amazing Peter Fonda. Wonderful, kind of silent, simple movie.

Oh,I remember another great one: "Dedication" with Tom Wilkinson and Billy Cudrup. Nice script this one... most of the time. And Henry Roth might be the best character Cudrup played. Scene with Wilkinson.
This movie has a good soundtrack also. Some Cat Power, some Deerhooff.

HOPES SPRINGS...tiny, stupid, depressing, funny, lovely movie. With Tommy Lee Jones, Meryl Streep and Steve Carrell.
And you get the chance to see Tommy Lee dancing.

One more I watched many years ago, maybe one of my favorites too: "Raining Stones", by Ken Loach. Most actors in this movie are not really actors but they blew my mind.
