OK so I finally managed to sink my teeth into this and I'm buried deep into S1. It's good, very good actually, but I wouldn't call it extraordinary just yet (perhaps the ending of S1 and future seasons will prove me wrong). I'm enjoying it a lot though and as I know some of you here have seen it, I thought we might have a thread for it.
But drop any spoilers no matter how small and I'm going to feed you to the flames, so help me R'hllor. I mean it! I haven't read anything about the show, nor watched any trailers. I only see the episodes and that's it so don't you be smart now. Use the spoiler tag to talk about future seasons as much as you want, I won't mind.
Now...I fucking love Bubbs. Don't you be getting killed, man. DON'T. Who is this actor? He's awesome.
So happy that my actors from Treme are in this one. Wendell Pierce and the one who plays the cop who carves small furniture, I forgot his name in the show. Plays Chief Lambreaux in Treme, what a performance. Love him to bits. (Edit: Clarke Peters)
And last but not least, Idris Elba. Please tell me he'll be in future seasons as well. Actually don't tell me anything! Ugh, this man kills me. Pure swag. I need more scenes with Stringer.
Many, many good scenes but the one that really made an impression so far was the "fuck... fuck... motherfucker" crime scene between McNulty and his partner (the one in the kicthen). Brilliantly worked.

I have the first season ready to go, lemme know what y'all think.
You haven't seen it either, DNA? Damn now *I* need to watch my own spoilers.
It's GOOD. Just finished "The Cost" from S1. NOOOOOOO!
It´s that episode when Omar ?

aw, you don´t need preaching...that´s good. You´ll love many many characters but yes, Omar is one of the finest.

a day and a half later...Season 2 is done. This show is crack, really. I think I enjoyed S1 more, but it wasn't really a drop in quality. Just felt it took longer for the action to pick up this time and the pacing felt a bit off. Plus it takes half a season for McNulty
Spoiler
to get back in with the team, and after that it's like he steps back and doesn't do all that much
. I'm not crazy about the way he's been written this season but that scene with him posing as a Brit cracked me up.
Pryzbylewski good R'hllor, never thought I'd end up liking the man. And Lt. Daniels. Such a badass. He's like a black Stannis.

Season 2 is the least of the seasons, IMHO. You'll get some good stuff coming in 3 :)

Um...I'm at the end of S3 and

it. doesn't. look. that....way.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!! First Prez, and now THIS. Fuck NO. You mean I'm stuck with that idiot Avon, but Stringer bites the dust. WHY??? I thought he figured out why Avon was asking him where he'd be the next day. That last scene between them was great. And now this. Omar, you're lucky I love you so.

S3 broke my heart. I can't take this.
PS: andrea, yes, Bunny is wonderful.
I was so ready for that scene and so glad when it happened.

ah, I´m late... You saw Hamsterdam already. Have to re-watch that episode.

I am gonna miss Stringer so much! Pitty they can't pull of an unStringer...
Love Daniels, Lester, Bunny, Omar, their CI (forget his name now)... But just cant warm to McNulty. What's wrong with me? What I hate the most is when he tries to act like he's drunk. I suppose it's meant for comic relief, cause he's worse than a comedian at trying to pretend to be drunk. He's so bad at it. I am glad he's not Mance. Don't think I'd have liked him for Mance.

Started S4 yesterday, but had to squeeze some work in between so I've only seen the first two episodes. I like the children, those were a nice find. And Prez, aaaww my baby. That should suit you. I'm with you Tir. While I like Dominic West in other things, his McNulty doesn't fit with me. Then again, I dislike the character so maybe he's actually doing a good job. Playing a drunk is actually *very* hard and most actors tend to miss the mark, and he's got a lot of those scenes, so...I'm tolerant. But goddamn, I was so relieved when I saw him in S4 taking a step back from all of that. I was getting so very tired of his scenes which brought nothing new tothe character he was playing. S3 was a pain for me in that aspect. But check out The Hour, Tir. His character there suits him PERFECTLY. And it's a nice series.
Spoiler
LOL, UnStringer. I thought the same thing. I was sure he'll be here till S5, so that came entirely as a shock for me. After he got shot I paused it and googled his character to make sure he had a bulletproof vest or something. But then I saw the episode count on IMDb and had to grab a glass of wine and drown my sorrows. And watch an episode of Luther again.
Did I mention I love the music on the opening credits? Fuck yeah, Tom Waits.

Never heard of "the hour". You're a treasure trove of movie-tv goodies! *hats off* Should I give it a go?

Yes please! The second season starts this November and I'll have no one to discuss it with!! *whines* It's not *great* TV, but it's enjoyable, because it has a little bit of everything, and it's only 6 episodes per season I think. Great cast, fabulous costumes, bit of drama, bit of comedy, bit of a spy-thriller. And because Ben Wishaw is amazing in it.
Sounds cool, will give it a go. And then we can discuss it!

Stop torturing poor Bubbles. Stop it HBO! I can't take it anymore. Also, I don't know the name of that character...Snoop? The little guy that hangs out with that Chris...something, shooting people. God, where did they find that actor? He cracks me up.

Finished S4 last night. Oh man, Bubbles gave me such a fright when he

tried hanging himself.
I was sure Cary was trolling when he commented above but now I went "no no no Cary was right NOOOO!". Phew, major relief! I really loved the teaching and education theme. Poor children and their idiotic parents.
One thing I don't get...why is everybody always comparing Carcetti and Littlefinger? There are some similarities between the characters but I wouldn't say they're that much alike. Oh well, maybe Carcetti's just as evil, but I honestly don't see it.

O_o
Maybe it's because they're both Aiden Gillian?

An excellent answer but NO. I know it's the same actor, but I asked that because when his character was brought up at wic.net (not by you), people were always commenting on the similarities between them.

Well, that's just dumb.

One difference I remember: Carcetti has a conscience.

I just can't get over the fact that they did a 180 degree turn on McNulty just like that. Yes, I knew he had it in him already and that things won't stay like they were in S4. But really, it felt out of the blue. He starts working that case and slips back into his miserable self just like that? Then he does that horrible thing with the bodies, and Lester backs him?!?! I'm siding with Bunk on this one, sorry Lester. You broke my heart a little.
Finished it. They had a nice season finale, although I'd say S5 was lacking in something. Maybe it's because the reduced number of episodes, I can't really put my finger on it.
Spoiler
But it was great seeing how everybody was "replaced" by someone, and the idea that the wheels will keep on turning in exactly the same way as they did before was very well executed.
All in all, a fantastic experience, and definitely one of the best shows I've ever seen. I wouldn't necessarily call it *the* best, because it felt a bit tiring at times, but it's definitely a must-see.
I now have HBO GO and can watch every and any HBO series, documentaries and soft core porn. I have just finished EP1 of S1 of the Wire. I really enjoyed the episode and liked that it was not full of "fluff" to get to know the characters. It just kind of dropped you right into it. Very excited for the rest of the season.

um, not for me Peep. It was better from 3 to 5. Guess my favorite was 4, have to check.

Is 4 the one with the school? If so, 4 was my favorite. But I remember 3 was very strong. I only remember having a bit of trouble finishing the last one, but I wouldn't say the show got worse, it was consistently good.

I remember, season 3 is great and has my favorite episode (Hamsterdam) and probably my favorite character "Bunny Colvin". But yes, season 4 is all about the kids and the school and is amazing.

Yep, I know, but maybe you´ll change your mind about her. The one that got on my nerves was the layer (Rhonda Pearlman). I hated that woman. I wonder if you already watched the "fuck, fuck, fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck" scene.

DDont think Rhondas been introduced yet? Is she the red haired chick that McNulty bangs? Then yes she has. Lol. And yes, the fuck fuck fuck crime scene is probably the greatest forensic scene EVER

red haired BITCH that Dirty Dick bangs, yes. I hated her every time. Awful irredeemable character. Oh yes, that forensic "fuck" scene is great. Keep watching!

Yes that is her. She has only been in about three scenes so I cant say I love or hate her yet. Lester is great. And Yes, Bubbles better not die but I think Avon's plan will expose him.

Lester is probably the best character and the guy it´s an amazing actor. Oh Bubbles. See? so many characters to love that you forget about the hateful ones
