My wife was the coolest girl in school. She likes punk rock and is very hardcore. She call me King of the geeks because I have so many dorky tendencies. But she loves me anyway.... I think
I find it's nice to have some things in common and some things that are yours alone in a relationship. I.E. he can fix my roof, car, and garbage disposal and I can have Game of Thrones!

I would kill to date a girl that's into the geeky stuff I am. Had some bad run ins with gf's who did not. Appears you can't be a jock and a geek, you have to choose. Or so they told me right before I booted em out the door.

I agree with Lyanna, not having the same interests is not a problem for me. Incidentally, we do, because Mr. Macha reads more than anyone I know, loves movies and some video games. I wouldn't really call him a geek tho, because he doesn't go to forums or websites that are fandom-orientated. Also we're from different generations so we'll always have our own things, which is cool. He likes GoT but he's not a super-fan. We had long talks about it, but that's it for him. I might convince him to read the books, but I don't really like pressuring people. Common interests is always a nice thing t have in a relationship, but they can be developed in time. I wouldn't exactly consider it a criteria when starting a relationship.
My Badger will watch the show with me .... as will two of my three children , but I am he TRUE geek in this house ... (My x was a geek too so it's not always a good thing !)
Good topic, Mopperty! Personally, I am very picky about who I date, and have many dealbreakers that completely disqualify someone from the dating pool. If someone doesn't like GoT or isn't particularly geeky, that isn't a dealbreaker. But if someone can't accept my eccentricities and the things that I like, then it is a dealbreaker. So as long as she doesn't have a problem with you being you and liking what you like, I don't think you should toss her to the curb. That being said, I don't even know anyone her who's into GoT, so maybe I'm biased.

I must disagree with you Aegon. I was in marching band every fall and played baseball in the spring. That makes me both a jock and a geek. It is possible.
Personally, Mr. Tir is not a GOT geek or a geek of any sort. But he enjoys watching the show, loves and hates some characters, and gets all the rest terribly mixed up in the off season, indulges me when I can't stop ranting or raving about sth Got related and offers me an invaluable non-reader/casual viewer POV.
So in the end...

THIS. A thousand times.

I'd be more concerned about dating someone with no interests or hobbies, Mopperty. She'll get a hobby soon enough -- and it'll be you, Project Mopperty.
Maybe you meant the two of you have no interests in common, which is cool.

Hey thanks for the quick response guys! just to be clear tho she has stated she will not watch the show, or most other shows i like... she only wants to watch kids films from the 90's or romcom. To me my hobbies are part of my life style. aGoT is just one part of that.
haha, hope i don't come off like a sad sack complaining. x
Don you are a lucky lucky man. Paul dude I'm a big rugby player, so I look like an uber jock, but I'm as big a geek as they come. I dumped said girls because they couldn't accept the two sides of my personality.

Not at all, Mopperty. Nice thread, IMO, cheers!

Mopperty, It sounds like this lady has some very concrete boundaries to what she likes and is not interested in expanding her horizons. That could be indicative or a rigid personality, like Stannis. That might not be good for somebody who likes lots of creative things like you seem to, but a woman wouldn't rule her out right away. See if she's open to watching some of YOUR favorites before deciding if she's a keeper or not. If she will ONLY watch HER favorites, then there is a selfish streak there that might be a bigger problem. It is good to have some things in common, and as some have said above to also have some things where you have your own space or time with other friends. Every relationship is different, so it's hard to make hard and fast rules regarding our geekdom and jockiness and variances of those.
Mr's Hghar I wouldn't compare her to Stannis seeing as half the ladies on here want to marry him.
who´s talking marriage here?

Well said Mrs. H

I dated mostly non fans. And dated a few converts. Never dated a girl who was already a fan. But I have been a fan since 2000 so, quite a few chickadees

Not only have i never dated Got fans (but i was into geeks guys not so long ago since i'm one too, i could have discussions about "why a drummer should never sing" and why wes Anderson isn't a genius whereas John Carpenter is underrated, why Ferris Bueller was a great moment during our youths... and so and so ad so, Clerks or Nick Hornby's kinda discussions, endlessly , with almost all of my ex) but i have got only one friend who is found of fantasy (the kind who is trying to get employed in a video games store and who read Glenn Cook) and who likes GOT. The only thing he can tell about is "i don"t want to talk about that awful frustration, it was horrible enough to get bored anytime a season finished , now these fucking unfinished books drove me nutty (but he was already)". So i' m alone with my passion (snif snif )

No, really, I have just one nerd friend but I don´t see him often. I´m sure he´s a fan tho and also, just a friend. My friends are mostly sane people. Maybe.

Shame on me, i was forgetting my best friend , she is breaking up with her companion and she told me yesterday that she was so hooked by ASOIAF that it was her bubble when she was feeling on the verge to crumble. I lived the same thing last year , these books allowed me to escape during one of the worst year of my whole life. So two addicts in my entourage, it's a beginning ! And for Anderson, i watched all of his movies and ... and i just can't , it's bloodless, aesthetic stuff . In spite of my love for Bill Murray, even the" Cousteau" film didn't get me...

What was the name of the dude singing ? I saw this one with my daughter's father who is half portuguese and he sang them to me in a hilarious way (he is a Bowie fan btw, "oh you pretty things dabababa") . There wasn't my favourite, Rockn' roll suicide !

I feel for poor Rygar, to this day I remain the original ASOIAF fan in my country. You know you buy to many books at a local bookstore when they greet you buy name and berate you for buying too many books.

Berate you for buying too many books? The banners should be called on such idiots . He who dies with the most books wins
