Bear Pit saved this episode, IMO. Like the chat between Tyrion and Bronn that was a giggle fest. Arya is pissed at the BWOB, wow! Jaime was soo sweet, couldn't say good bye to Brienne . Scenes with Bran, boring, scenes with Sansa, boring, although Natalie Dormer is so good, it's unbelievable. Jon and Ygritte, boring. Did like the scene with Tywin climbing the steps and facing Joffrey, "well then, your Grace, we will carry you", great line. My least fav of the season so far. I won't even go into how much I wanted to puke during the King in the North scenes, yuck.  Ooops, forgot, Melisandre telling Gendry about his father was cool, did like that .

Will we meet Daario tonight? Excited for the events in the bear pit. Not sure what else is going to happen but from the sound of the episode overview we'll see the beginnings of the Shae-Tyrion implosion. I really hope that plays out in a similar manner to how it went in the books with her ultimately testifying against him.

T-minus 1.3 hours. Torchlight II and chat until then!

No Daario (looks like next week) but we did get a Shae meltdown.

I have to say that that is probably the closest I've come to "disappointed" with a Game of Thrones episode. It's still good, compared to all the other stuff out there, but something was... missing tonight. Most of the scenes just felt a bit half-assed.

Tywin & Joffrey: Could have been incredible... felt kind of flat.
The Bear and the Maiden Fair: Wasn't there supposed to be a fight? I saw a bear swipe at Brienne and then everyone espaces. Biggest let down of the night
Theon & the Ladies: I have no issues with watching the Theon torture thus far but at this point even I'm like "ok! I get it!. Ramsey is a sick bastard (pun intended).

Things I *DID* like:
Tormund: THERE'S Tormund! I was hoping for the bear story to segue into Brienne but oh well.
Dany: My homeslice continues to be a BAMF. Loved her scene. I'm sorry but Drogon is ****ing SCARY now. Damn. Just wait until we get to the events of ADWD!
Arya: My little psychopath! "Who is your true god?" "Death" *flutter*

Other observations:
Talisa & The Bun: Intrigued at what D&D are going to do with this. She's a non-book character so I have no idea what to expect. Will or won't she survive the RW? I'm leaning toward yes, being held hostage at this point, but I kind of like not knowing.
Melisandre: I wasn't a fan of her characterization last season but I really dig what they're doing with her this season.

Worst episode of the season for me, which is to say - still head and shoulders above the rest of the garbage out there.

I though the Bear Pit was really lackluster. I remembered it being a lot more tense and exciting in the book. This didn't give me the same feeling (which is what I hope for with the show, even if the execution is different). I did like the Tyron and Bronn chat (I was starting to wonder what had happened to him). The Osha story was interesting but I hope they have her and Rickon head to Skagos soon. I liked the Margaery-Sansa scene, too. I think she genuinely does care for her but she still rolls her eyes at how naive she CONTINUES to be.

I am also intrigued by the Jon/Orell/Ygritte love triangle thing and the implications for that as events progress. I could have done without the sappiness with Mr. Stark as well.

Second favorite episode for me this season. Still not over episode 3. Where's your wit now, GRRM? WHERE. Anywho, I already gushed over how much I liked the directing for this episode in the non-reader thread, so only a couple of things here:

Mel's background - wohooo, that made it in earlier. Does this put to rest those "Mel is Shiera Seastar" theories? R'hllor help us.
Gendry knows. He knooooows. Great. What now? I'm getting a feeling Edric Storm is ultimately supposed to be more important than Gendry in the books. Just wait until the Arya/Gendry vs Shireen/Gendry shipping wars start.
Dany, you've just written yourself into a fig-diet-in-Essos corner of doom. We'll talk in about 4 seasons. Have fun!
Orell, I see you putting the moves on Ygritte, and I approve. You don't need Jon's curls, you're lovely just the way you are. Let's warg.
For a moment there, I thought we were at Queenscrown. But no, just a mill. Did anyone else get a weird 'Winterfell as penis extension' vibe over Jon's scene with Ygritte comparing towers? No? Just me? Okay.
Wut the hell. Pregnant Talisa is gonna break westeros.org. LMAO.
I liked Qyburn's pin. Or was it a brooch?
Other than that, I'm amazed that Ramsay's whores were in such good condition.

Oh, forgot to add...THE CHAIN. I see you, chain. I see you.

Won't be for long. I guarantee.  Bye the time he gets to Winterfell, there will be a dog named Violet and a dog named Miranda.

This was a chesspiece episode, lots of characters moving to place for what will come next.

I loved:

Tywin staring down the king, I got all tingly when he climbed the steps and Joffrey seemed to shrink at each one.

Jon and Ygritte, they got great moments and dialog that had been missing between them thusfar.

Dany's power play, I loved how she used her dragons to show her cards, she has been awesome this season.

Hodors epic hodor, we laughed so hard when that happened?

I liked:

The Bear scene was quite good, tho I had it hyped up a lot in my mind, so the reality of the scene kinda took me aback.

Oddly, Theons scene, it seems the writers are trying to find new and clever ways for the poor lad to suffer, I admit this one was quite good.

Gendry's Blackwater tour, I loved the visual. And some Mel's backstory was interesting.

I didn't like:

Osha's monologue, well acted, but it did not seem to introduce anything new.

Time for a rewatch!

I still hope D&D are so awesome they introduce Daario, everyone will be raging "NOOO THIS IS WHERE IT ALL GOES TO SHIT", and then one episode later they just fucking kill him. I'll suck their cocks if they do that.

i sorely missed this:

That's so memorably sassy Jaime! And miles better a couple of lines than "sorry for the sapphires"

Curious about something - have your non-reader friends/partners already figured out who's torturing Theon?

Because Mr Macha hasn't. My non-reader friends haven't. Mr Macha at least knew that the boy was just playing with him from the very first scene, but he didn't make the connection to Bolton. Granted, he's a casual viewer and doesn't really pay attention to banners on the show; he can barely remember who everyone is, let alone details from S2 such as the horn-blower.
Anywho, he doesn't feel that the torture scenes have become too much and that they should stop. For him, what's happening to Theon and the wildlings climbing over the wall sums up the action in this season so far, in terms of advancing the plot. It's interesting because he knows Bolton is fishy since he let Jaime go, and he feels that what's happening to Theon is actually more important than it looks so far, but he doesn't piece it together. So I'm sorry, but all that "everybody should have figured it out by now" that I keep seeing is simply not true.

In a word: no. At least not with Mr. Tir. Ramsay is one of his main suspects, but then he changes his mind every 2 minutes. The question is driving him nuts. He completely expects Bolton to betray Robb, but he's not figured out the Theon connection.

The OLS has no clue. He thinks the torture has been too graphic. He hasn't seen the stripping of the kraken yet.

Not bad, my dad (the one who owns the cable  wich allows to discover the episode without downloading, thanks dad !) only thinks he's one of the Roose Bolton's soldier and mad torturer .

I'm even more enthusiast than Macha. My favourite episode, exhilarating , not less ! Oh i'm not a Oona-Richard sex scene's fan, really weak, not a lot of chemistry, boring... But the rest of the episode , wow ! Dormer is awesome, Leslie and Harrington were as beautiful as young actors in a seventie's bittersweet movie (don't know why, it made me thought of the Graduate, really don't know why...). Costen-Waldau and Christie were so great together, i almost swooned ! Tyrion and Bronn, clever and subtle ...

I am wondering what they are doing with Pycelle this season. He only had one line so far. In the books Pycelle does little during book 3 and when Quiburn becomes the Lannister favorite "would-be" maester he gets shoved even more into the background.

I would not mind an earlier killing off, IMO.

I'm ready for the RW. They (GRRM, D&D, whomever) have made the poor KITN such a puss on HBO, I would rather see him gone. I was not happy watching this week's episode

Yes, I do get the feeling they're trying to make us *want* to see Robb gone...

Well, truth be told, the Red Wedding was always more about Catelyn and less about Robb. And it's my impression that the ones that are displeased with Robb are mostly book readers - this is not to say that they don't have any reason to be, but I don't think we can really judge the impact the RW will have on viewers as a whole, since I do believe that book readers are just a vocal minority actually. The majority consists of non-readers and casual viewers, I'd say, and from what I read and hear, they are at most indifferent towards Talisa, but they all tend to root for Robb. Mr Macha for example thinks Robb is pretty much perfect (even if he is rather conventional character), and that he's going to take Casterly Rock at least before the end.
