I'm very late, i'm only watching the second season now. I feel quite shared about this one. Aesthetically, this is a masterpiece, the light is so subtle and beautiful that it makes me think of Hammershoi paintings, costumes are a splendor and the actor's skills really great (very impressed by Michael Pitt's performance). But , imo, there's a lack of flesh, feelings wich prevent me from involving in it. We stay on the character's surface and even if it's very well done, something misses , even if some get more density as Margaret. So what's your point about this one ?

As i go further in the season, the characters' real goals and thoughts emerge very slowly and so subtlely that it's a very impressionnist stuff. We see Nucky cries, Margaret having desires, Chalky humbled, the unhealty relation Gillian-Jimmy. It's a classical HBO process in a way, very slow journey to character's truth. There are little things wich touch me so much however, the sweet gestures, so realistic imo, that Jimmy has towards Angela, it's minimalist but very well felt.
