exactly the same, just watched for G. Byrne but that guy playing the main character is just awful, he looks always high. Terrible casting for me.

Like I said I would I'm watching back to back today , and really enjoying it ... not to sure about the obsession with threesomes but hey ... it's seems to work in the girls favor
I watch it too, Al. I was so proud of Bjorn, I cheered out loud. Fuck Ragnar!

I watched this with my dad, and it's a guilty pleasure. So much eye candy and fighting, I can't resist. I don't think it's historically accurate in more than the loosest way (shame on you, history channel). It certainly isn't geographically accurate, but it's fun nonetheless.
Tattoo boy proceeded to explain a lot about Viking culture and history at the beginning. He knew quite a bit because he researched his white heritage while he was in prison. This is common among the white supremacist culture that thrives there (which is only marginally related to white supremacism outside of prison). It's how come there is such a large concentration of Odinists (Ásatrú) in prison.
And then, apparently, wasn't into the show and ran off to clean the kitchen. The OLS and I enjoyed it however.

I'm in a Deadwood rewatch right now but Vikings seems like a GoT type of movie. Don't care too much about the historical accuracy. I don't think its meant to be that accurate but would love to see Gabriel Byrne again in something. (Even if Andrea thinks he's awful :P)
It's funny to see people complaining of historical accuracy on a show that's based on a written record of an oral legend, recorded about four hundred years after that culture was Christianized, there's no way the Eddas are historically accurate, they're legend, the main character is supposed to be the grandson of Odin for fucks sake.
About the show, i think is awesome, i like the acting and the little orgy of gore we get now and then, fun times.
I actually started watching at about the same time i started reading the Saxon Series by Cornwell, is loosely based part on the Eddas and part on England's history during the Nord invasions, great stuff to read if you're into historical fiction. (By the way, there's a reason Cornwell himself calls his books historical fiction).
Dolan, I'm not an intellijerk about it. I'm far from educated on Scandinavian history, so I'm not judging that. But I do hold the History Channel to a higher standard than channels that primarily show fiction. It's things like having Uppsalla be a mountain paradise when it is in fact in the midst of flatlands that bugs me. It's just not that hard to get things like that right. There will be some surprised tourists.
No lol, I actually love Gabriel Byrne and he was the reason to peeped at this show, I was talking about the actor who plays Ragnar, he´s the awful one. And mostly all the others. Sorry, the show is no good to me though my expectations with the History Channel are really low.

But the men! I know you and I have very different tastes though, Andi. I ignore Ragnar and ogle the rest.
Well then... I suppose you and I have similar taste!
Andrea, I love Gabriel Bryne. I saw good acting in good movies from him (Miller's Crossing, The Usual Suspects, Little Women), I've seen some good acting in really bad movies (Stigmata) and I've seen bad acting in some terrible movies (End of Days). But he's a weakness

I can't possibly hold the TV Channel responsible for this guy:

Spoiler
Now you're talking!
Exactly! Dont care two figs about Ragnar. But Rollo's so damn fine!
On a different spectrum I quite like King Ecbert too.
I find the plot quite erratic, but everything is so beautiful to look at, and the action shots are class, and I love so many of the characters that I don't care. I thoroughly enjoy it. And I fricking loooove Lagertha.
I do wish they would move to a couple of different valleys and not shoot everything in the square mile. I don't care it doesn't match "real" locations, like the Uppsala bit, cause i take the whole story more in a mythical/legend plane. But a little visual aid would be nice so we know they've supposedly moved to a different country. And it'd be so easy to move an inch and get a different landscape. Incidentally I've often passed with the car by their trailers while they were filming s2 and got to see the village in Logh Tay from above and all. Very cool!

WTF Happened to this post? There was supposed to be the History Channel "Aliens" guy and some more comment below.
Anyways, this is what i was linking to it, and then i said that's why i don't set up much of a high bar when judging their shows, in case of Vikings, i just treat it as fantasy and judge it on how entertaining it is, and to me they're doing a pretty good job.

Well, I watched last night 2 eps and a half but with all the things going on, I forgot to comment on it.
@Tir: hot damn! Rollo is SOME Viking. He seems to nurture something for his brother's wife. And a lot of envy for Ragnar too.
I agree with Andrea, the actor who's playing the lead is terrible IMO. But the actress who plays the wife, I think she's good. And badass so far.
I've yet to see more of the Lord. Gabriel Byrne's character is twisted!
That's all I got so far. Oh, the attack on the monastery was so and so. I think the the starting battle sequence in ep 1 was way better.
