Also, criticising D&D for using shock value is just hilarious. What books have you been reading Al?
I fail to see what's so hilarious about this line. The difference in subtly between George and D & D is astronomical, these are pair of nitwits who felt the need to shoehorn in unnecessary torture scenes between Ramsay and Theon. And that scene with Tywin was very subtle since more than half of the audience didn't even get the reference.
I really don't the blind faith people have in D & D here, it's sad and extremely disappointing to know that "fans" seem unwilling to accept blatant botches of a rich and wonderful series. And don't give me that crap about how AFFC and ADWD aren't great books because that is complete and utter bollocks.

Well, I disagree on the subtlety point, but clearly there's no point in debating that. We'd be here all day trading examples.
I don't have blind faith in D&D, but I do generally trust them to do a good job, because I enjoy most of their material. Same as how you enjoy most of GRRM's material. I wouldn't even call myself a fan of the books anymore, just of the show
I accept that they've made mistakes, like the Sept scene, the Yara rescue. And I can accept that some scenes are worse in the show for their changes, like the Nightwatch's march back to the Wall. But I generally find I don't even think about the books when watching the show, and that they've generally become separate in my mind. So in the end most of these things don't really bother me.
There was no shepherd leading me to loving the show, just as I'm sure there is no-one leading you to love Feast and Dance. I don't hold these opinions just to enrage you Al. Though I admit to sometimes baiting you, and I'm sorry about that. -- Edited by Cosca on Monday 16th of March 2015 03:00:42 AM
Fair enough Cosca, all valid and good points.
Love is a strong word though, I am just not inclined to say they are as dreadful as some people make them out to be. I agree that AFFC is the probably the weakest entry into the series though.
My problem is I seem unable to seperate the two. When I've seen the show be so faithful in the past it bothers me when strange deviations are made later on.

Funny story, season two is my least favorite of the seasons of the show since I re-read the book in anticipation of the start of season 2...and I hated all the changes and nitpicked that season to death.
I decided not to re-read any of the books after that happened, when I was done with ADWD in August of 2011 my memory has faded a lot of the details and I think my show enjoyment is better for it.
I should rewatch season 2 and see if it has aged better now.

You wanna know how good book Asha is? I had no idea that Stannis invaded Winterfell during her chapter.because I was so fucking bored reading it. She's the worst.

I mean, Asha is better, but it's not like I really care all that much about either character. She was barely in the books until Feast, and then I found her chapters pretty dull. Yara has been in a handful of scenes. If you'd asked me what I thought of Asha before I read Feast, I would have said "who?"
I guess I like Gemma Whelan's performance, from what I've seen so far.

Yes, I too like Gemma Whelen as Yara/Asha which makes a lot more sense than the fan-art sexpot that Asha keeps getting drawn as. I just hate how she and her arc are written, which I think the book gets much better.

So I guess the entire Ironborn arc has been nuked? Or saved for a rainy day in season 6? But methinks if they skip it this season it might be too late , I do miss my Victarion.

Can we even say Yara has an arc though? I mean, all her scenes have been about Theon and furthering his arc. Asha didn't have arc before Feast either. Who knows, maybe Yara will get some real material.

I'm hoping we'll still get Aeron, at some point. Of all the new Iron Islands characters introduced, he was my favorite, probably because I have a fascination with religious zealots.

"Frankly, the only interesting thing Quentyn does is get burned by Drogon at the end of the book, but he doesn't even have the decency to die."
HAhahaha!!! This was exactly the way i reacted when i read that he hadn't died, it was like "c'mon! why didn't you died? just die already..."
I don't know if you'll get anyone here to say that Yara > Asha. That's beyond the pale.
Yeah, that would be me.
But I blame that on Gemma Whelan and that badass Greyjoy theme that works great on dramatic, let's kick some ass (shortlybefore they kick ours, trololol) scenes.
Ffs, Book-Asha is a walking cliche that seemed to be written by a 14 year old. She's not that far from Arianne, now that I think of it. A cheap version of a "strong female character", but whatever, that's just my take on things.
But yes, I'd love for them to work some version of the Kingsmoot into the show at some point, and of course, all the other Greyjoys are welcome. GoT can't get enough weirdos.
Of course they got something wrong. Quentin doesn't get burned by Drogon. Why is it always Drogon? Like the other dragons don't do anything? HERE IS SOMETHING ONE OF THE OTHER DRAGONS DO.
It was Rhaegal, right?

of course! how could them!!!!?????
And the Iron Islands chapters are completely useless anyway. IIRC Victarion has one cool scene at the battle for the shield islands and that's it, the rest is just boring filler about how awful his entire culkture is and himself. Same goes for Asha and that sick rape fantasy scene, yuck.
One testament to how well they've done some things on the show, at least in my opinion, is my emotional reaction to the chaining of R&V. Yes, I know the chains would have been heavier than they appeared, but the way they "cried" as Dany walked away almost made me cry, even though I was reminding myself they were just CGI creations. Given that, I'm guessing I'll have another emotional reaction to them telling mama to "fuck off.". :(

Hmmm I personally could not stand him, I found his chapters so boring. Hmm I am starting to see why all Ironborn are getting cut.

I know a lot of people didn't like him. I didn't like the Iron Islands stuff, in general, but I liked Aeron.

Oh you mean the pretty hot show Aeron stand-in? Yes we can haz him back pwease.
As Nymeria said, yup, religious zealots are always fun to watch, but maybe they're sort of playing this card with Melisandre, so maybe they don't want to use it on another character.

You mean like the High Sparrow?

yeah, but i don't think they're going to flesh out the character any further, they're really cutting off from the iron islanders stuff, thank goodness.
Ps: that's pic makes me think i could smell that guy from miles away.
You're probably right, Macha. I just like the counterpoint of water to the Fire of R'hollr. I know, it's a Song of Ice and Fire, not a Song of Water and Fire, but all you'd have to do is throw him in the freezer for a bit. ;)

I didn't feel like the High Sparrow was develloped at all in the books, but he looked magnetic in the trailer. I imagine that story line will be a highlight

A good example how an engaging actor can elevate the written material...I am looking forward!

Interview Entertainment Weekly did with D&D. Not all that much that's relevatory. I did find this very interesting though:
The ratings go up every year. Does that add pressure to keep improving the show?
Weiss: Yep. People who watch the show, they almost enter into an unspoken contract with you, and you feel pressure to keep them excited. They’ve done you the favor of choosing your show over the many many other shows they could be watching for that 10 hours a year, and it feels like you owe them something.
Compare this attitude with George "Not Your Bitch" Martin's.

Two things that stood out apparently: Maggy's prophecy does not mention the Volonqar and my personal best is Mel: "Are you a virgin?" Jon: "No" Mel: "Good" My OTP is still standing!!!!
-- Edited by TormundsWoman on Wednesday 18th of March 2015 08:55:40 PM
yeah, I was pretty happy that valonqar shite was cut. The prophecies that are left are actually good. Also, YOUNG CERSEI IS PERFECT CASTING. Seriously, she is so good.
On Mance:
Spoiler
get's BBQed by Stannis. Jon Snow shoots him with an arrow rather than let him suffer. Think it's the final scene
