Ok, I don't know what the bad fuss was about?! I liked it. It's edgy, it's straight, it's completely coherent and tight storytelling for a first ep. Event the backstory flows naturally. I would comment but I don't want to spoil it for those who watch it next week. However, I got this: HOLY SHIT ROY VELCORO! Did he just beat the crap outta the bullies dad?! I suppose that's ONE way to say no to bullying freakout

Not too bad, did what an opening episode is supposed to do. Introduce us to the characters and the plot.
I applaud the show for setting itself apart from the first season, I know some people wanted the same thing as season one, but what would the point be to rehash it?

Colin Farell impressed the most, his scene with the bullies dad was disturbing yet awesome.
McAdams and Kitch seem less defined but they could still grow.

Not sold Vince Vaughn as the bad guy yet, but at least he is not bringing his smarmy schtick here and that is good.

So lets see if the show can kick it up and go from good to great, because it seems this season only has 8 eps like the last.

Jury's still out. I think I'm going to like it, but I'm disappointed that it's set in California. I definitely need to rewatch.

Man, some of the dialogue here was terrible, particularly from Vince Vaughn's character. "Don't wanna look hungry. Never do anything out of hunger, not even eating." Sounded like something a robot would come up with after watching too many gangster movies. And I had to laugh at the young highway patrolman's blow job scene; he doesn't even care guys, because life is suffering, maaaan.

Still, overall it was alright I guess. I'll stick with it.

I didnt mind the dialogue so much and felt that each actor fit for each role. However a pretty blah episode. Nic let it all out there this time with his characters with very little mystery. Found that Lin used Cary Fuginowa (sp) tricks waaay to often. In a way that was good because it FELT like watching TD. I think the bar singer is the the girl who sang in the first trailer. Loved that part, even if it was symbolic overload. Was as good as half the episodes of GoT this year.

Why on earth was the original trailer song not used? It was so awesome.

Seems like they wanted a total about face from last seasons theme. I am also guessing that the lyrics have some meaning for the story, however its like a pile of steaming crap. Would have prefered the trailer song as well.

Maybe they will change it each episode?????

“You ever bully anyone again, I’ll come back and butt-fuck your father with your mother’s headless corpse on this goddamn lawn. Twelve years old my ass, fuck you." That scene was brilliant. Jury is out on all the characters and actors, this has always been a pretentious as fuck show and it seems they are heading that way again, just give me a good story damnit.

Yeah, I'm a big Leonard Cohen fan, and even love his cheesy synth pop 80s album, but that song is...not good

So is the murder just gonna be about some city corruption stuff? I hope they up the ante over regular police procedural stuff.

Ya that scene was pretty great.  I feel like I'm still indecisive about the episode though.  I will definitely keep watching but man this is no season 1.

Season 1 was lightning in a bottle, with one of those great pilots that grab you right away.
Maybe the showrunner is a one trick pony, but he could've easily made a second season with the old cast but he tried something different and I respect that.

I thought the scene was pretty revealing about what kind of character Colin is playing. The line about butt fucking was incredibly insane too. But I didn't find it bad. It was perfect. He was completely out of control, drunk and abusive. I don't know why Vanity Fair thought it was bad.

People at WotW are comparing the butt fucknline to Tyene's bad pussy line. Cheesey. I loved it. The butt fuck. Not the bad pussy. That was cheesey but so was all of Dorne.

I didnt mind Vince Vaughn at all.

The mental picture how Roy would have to maneuver a womans headless corpse in order to do the buttfucking, how would that even work?

what the fuckbear. That buttfuck line was greatness, an eruption from all the tension that was building towards that scene that made me genuinely cheer. The bad pussy line was a fucking Beavis&Butthead insert that made zero sense besides emphasizing how awful Dorne and the writing of D&D are.

The buttfuck scene was just ridiculous, trying too hard to be edgy. That said, if the series embraces that sort of ridiculous campy extremeness going forward I might enjoy it more. In the context of the serious show it seems to be presenting itself as, it was dumb as hell.

Nah, it didnt try hard to be edgy. Tryin too hard to be edgy would be to do something shocking unexpectedly. He already beat the piss out of his dad right in front of him. I expected him to do something worse to the kid. Guess its just perception.

Oh come on. Threatening to buttfuck his dad with the headless corpse of his mother? Beating someone up is mundane by comparison

Exactly. What do you say to a punk ass kid when you cant physically fuck him up? You say that you will buttfuck his dad with his moms headless corpse. Or you say, "this is what happens when you fuck a stranger in the ass, Larry."

I'm still about giving this the benefit of the doubt until episode 2, however going back and watching an episode from last season really didn't help matters much as it was so damn good.

Oy.

Cosca, there´s nothing better than that to say to a 12 years old kid, believe me! Well, maybe probably a lot better but nothing that effective.  Not only didn´t try to be edgy, the image was so funny it took all the violence out of it.

As a first impression, I actually liked the first episode. So far I don't see why the bad reviews, but then I generally don't trust critics anyway. Didn't even mind Vince Vaughn, at least not as much as David Morse's wig.
Not a fan of Colin Farrell, never have been, let's hope I can tolerate him for this season. As for the scene with the kid, meh. Wasn't bad, wasn't that good either, IMO.

PS: Hah, surprised to hear Cohen's Nevermind on the credits, as I've been listening to that album for months now. I like it!

Second ep, should be interesting to see if the show finds it's direction.

David Morse! Now I remember his name thanks Macha. I have to say that's some pretty hippy shit. Also, Antigone and Athena Someone went overboard there.

Well hell... I don't know what to say about the ending. I do see more Pizzolato in this ep then before The car conversation was a highlight. But boy all leads have a truly fucked up history. I think Vince Vaughn's character wins it by a mile so far.

Colin Farrell is casted in more episodes, so I assume he's not dead...which is good because Melisandre isn't in Hollywood. I'd say a small handful of scenes were actually interesting, mostly with the main characters interacting in the car. Taylor Kitsch's girlfriend and the wife scene with Ray just kept me thinking again about how S1 did this same thing but better. The Vinci head of police is quite a weirdo and the scene with Vince Vaughn definitely shed some light on that. I wouldn't say this episode was downright boring but I did have some solid yawns in the middle. 6/10

Is it just me or Paul's mom is creepy. As in Gillian and Jimmy Darmody creepy. Ugh. Ray's was a bit foreshadowed. Thinking back he did say "The only way I take a vacation is if I croak."

The Taylor/mom relationship makes me think she was a crack whore or something along those lines. Never was his mother. Also, very inappropriate towards the son, wanting him to stay the night, all the women like you, etc.. Just smells like incest. Was impressed with Vaughn's tale of his childhood. Made me want to puke. Very believable. Felt bad for Taylor's girlfriend, she's right. When they can't talk about the family(ies) it's only sex, honey. Convinced Colin is wearing a vest and that is rock salt or something similar. Would have blown his head off if he wanted him dead.

Yep, that's the kind of creepy vibe I got from Pauline's mom, Ly. She was way too feeling his muscle and talking about how strong he felt. Also, sex talk. I do think that might be his real mom. Which is probably why he's got girlfriend issues?! Maybe. Besides the military post traumatic symptoms or whatever is making him a suicidal Biker.

Well I've tried again tonight , as I loved the first series so ... and I'm reading all your comments , but my beef is ...
I can't hear a fucking thing anyone is saying ? It's like there's cotton wool over the mic? They're all mumbling and I need goddam subtitles! That is distracting me from any story line that is slooooooooooooowly being pieced together . Yawn.
I don't know if I'll make it to a third.

It's funny, I was just reading the TD subreddit about the sound quality this season, saying things to the effect of it being muddy or overtly normalized. I will admit as it has been hot here in Seattle it was hard as hell to hear anything over my fan, even with it cranked way up.

Not sure if it is a mux issue with cable 5.1 or stereo or what, but there have been lots of people talking about it.

The scenes that work best was when Roy and Ani talking in the car, classic buddy-cop detective stuff and I like it.
Still not buying VV in his role, even his monologue in bed didn't work, it is obviously not playing to his strengths, the scene where he talked shit to the guy his goons beat up worked better.

Watched it on lunch. Better episode than the first.

Quick thoughts: No way Colin is dead. Yes way Taylor is gay, Maybe this is going to be about the underbelly of the porn industry.

I agree with Sid. Where this season lacks from the first is the caliber of acting from the cast during the little nuance scenes.

Didnt notice any sound issues but I had headphones on.
