Adverts and no one chatting . . I'm loving this episode so far . . Hound !!! Before the theme tune even . . Theon is sooo moving. . Leanna Mormont rocks ! Wun wun . He's a hunk . Sir Davos ! Ffs ! That was so Geordie. Jamie is hot !! I've never fancied him before. Lovejoy is epic .
I confess: I totally freaked out when the Waif stabbed Arya. I didn't expect it. Which is weird because we were TOLD she's gonna go after our Stark. The FM are skilled bastards.
Other shocks: Glover refusing to help Sansa Stark over the Boltons, and Sansa judging Davos. What was up with that?! I wish I'd get where that came from
The Mormont was a little badass. And we got 62 men. Bet those could overpower Ramsay's 20 good man!
I actually loved everything Riverlands. And Ian McShane's acting chops showed off. Strange what one talented guy can do with one single ep, with what? 2 scenes? even if he was just a plot point for the Hound to stir him from his quiet living.
Also it looks like HS will fall at Margery's hand. I approve.
Best bit was Riverrun everything else was slow or just bad, wasted McShane, wtf happened with Brotherhood? Arya was just not credible. North was good but at the same time boring. Confirmed that Margaery is just acting? But so what, her plan relies on the Faith releasing her brother but at the same time having him renounce his titles? And the King seems to be turning into Baelon the Religious Nut 2.0. Greyjoys are progressing but that was just more setup.
I think the Hound will take down by himself the guys who killed the whole Septon Al Swearengen's party, Ry. He didn't even seem to be that religious. He was doubting the gods since they haven't "punished" him to begin with.
Yeah, that was implied so I am hoping they stick with it. Having him make a turn would be a bad idea. Next thing they will have him become a religious zealot and join the Faith Militant.

The Hound! I knew it was coming and I still yelped with glee! Lyanna Mormont had bigger ovaries than Sansa, she rocked and Davos rocked too. That was the best scene tonite.
Margaery is playing the faith, that note proves it right?
Dang, Arya got straight up shanked! I did not expect her to get pwned that badly, how the hell will she come back from that? The brotherhood used to be a Robin-Hood kind of band of bros, why did they become so dark?
MAYBE become Beric is no longer the leader....but someone with
Spoiler
a STONE HEART!

Overall I loved this episode. Davos continuing to be a badass, the Hound returns, Bronn returns with some great Jamie banter, Olenna Tyrell gets best in show again. Natalie Dormer is all cleaned up, Bear fucking island.
Lots of great stuff, really excited to see the last three episodes. I wonder what Littlefinger will want in return for answering Sansa with the knights of the vale?

McShane was good, but I miss the Broken Man speech from the book. It was amazing, the only thing I remember from Feast.
Yeah, it's incredibly annoying that they left that out considering the episode's name. It's as if they trolled us. Anyway, I'm curious about the Brotherhood coming back into the picture. I wonder if it's just the show's way to put the Hound back on his murderous path or if they'll have a role to play in the plot beyond his character development.
It was a very good episode overall, in my opinion, even though it was short and not much happened. I think the directing, writing and acting elevated what could have been a very boring episode into a consistent one. It's a slow episode, but I'm kind of glad of that, considering the pace of the season.
I'm sure the last three episodes will make up for it in scale, action and plot development. From the preview, it looks like the next episode will be a meaty one.
I LOVED this one, I thought it was the best directed episode of the season. The acting was great, the editing was very good, everything flowed wonderful.
McShane was fantastic, I didn't miss the speech, never even remembered it from the books, and loved the antithesis between him and the High Sparrow.
I think Olenna was writing to the Martells.
That Arya scene was weird, why the hell wasn't she carrying Needle with her?
I'm curious myself to see why they brought back the Brotherhood, sid! They don't seem to make the Hound a religious fanatic to fight for the Faith, as Ry noticed above, so clearly they need another way. Him taking out the BWB for the killing of random guys and one septon that saved him doesn't have the powerful kick for me, but who knows.
The title doesn't phase me though, because they have used titles before without the same meaning I put in them. Plus they always seem to chose double or multiple meaning words anyway, where I as a bookreader will fit in anything I can imagine from the source (Mother's Mercy anyone?)
Except they didn't say they were from the Brotherhood, the Hound knew based on them referencing R'hllor. I'm not surprised they became a bunch of scumbags, with Beric losing more and more of himself each time he was brought back, and Thoros being a drunk and not a leader. Who knows what might have happened to them in the meantime. I'm more concerned with Brienne and Pod being also in the Riverlands, they've got nothing but enemies there, and apparently Jaime is still a dick.
Other than the Hound, this was that slow episode they have every season where the final eps get set up. Not super exciting, but some great moments. A few thoughts from my first viewing.
I ought to be annoyed that the Hound is back because I hate when shows do that, but I'm not. I'm happy to see the old boy. I didn't even catch that Al Swearigen was a septon, and was wondering what house has a star for it's symbol. The Hound isn't going religious on us. He's just getting some perspective. And I didn't think that was the Brotherhood; just some bandits looking for protection money. Finally, you guys keep saying there's no material left from the books, and then you talk about this broken man speech. Looks like you're not as unsullied as you claim.
Arya, WTF? How could she conceivably not be ready for that? Lame. Will she make it to Lady Crane, or will some other benevolent soul take her in? Either way, there's going to be a very pissed off captain in the morning.
The scenes in the North were pretty good. A nice display of who each of the three characters seeking help truly is. Loved little Lady Mormont. I assume she lost her father at the Red Wedding. The islanders in this world are tough! I'm so glad Donnie doesn't act like them.
Jaime...looking hot in that armor. I can't wait until Brienne comes riding up. The question is whether she can get him to turn on the Freys and take his army north. I can't quite see it, since it would mean betraying Cersei and his son. I would also love a reunion between the Hound and Brienne. I wish he could tag along with her, but he won't wade through a Lannister army for anyone.
Pretty good episode, though I'm not so sure about the Hound or Arya stuff. Her not walking around with needle was just...off, and it's obvious she isn't going to die. Hoping there's something more there.
Hound material started off well, then veered into Walking Dead bullshit. I fucking hate when the message of the story is that pacifism is the most dangerous thing ever. It just seemed like they contrived a situation to make McShane's character look like a dumbass. They didn't even build a wall, in the middle of wartime! And I was hoping for Unforgiven here Atreyu, because I adore that movie. But it isn't Unforgiven, because The Hound has legitimate cause, and William Munny was looking for cash based on false premises. And I never got too much of an impression that the Hound had changed in the first place.
I don't really mind the Brotherhood going rogue. Their leaders were falling apart, and they sold out Gendry.
Northern recruitment montage was awesome. Little Lyanna was badass, and I like that each group they visited had a plausible reason not too follow the Starks. "62 men" had me chuckling. The Glover guy in particular had a good point, the Starks completely fucked the North up. They've got a lot of trust to earn back.
Riverlands material was very good; as was King's Landing. So glad Olenna got out of that hellhole, though I think Margaery's days are numbers. A pity, her latest move is fantastic. That little flower doodle was beautiful.
I agree with Jent, good to have a couple of slower episodes before the final three, which are looking pretty crazy.

Oh and I have a VERY bad feeling when Sansa wrote Littlefinger, he might have grudge for the way he was treated, and remember he never does anything unless it improves his standing later.

Munny didn't go full-on murder storm until Logan got killed. Munny/Clegane is not a perfect analogy, but there are some parallels.

People are saying the Hound is back to his old ways.
I disagree, the old hound only looked out for number one, *fook da king*.
He is going after the gang that killed his church buddies, he is avenging them, he did not do that before.

I have no idea what'll happen at Riverrun. Jaime and the Lannister army tagging along North seems unlikely, but it's actually possible Jaime will use Brienne to everyone's advantage and make a win-win out of a lose-lose. If he and Brienne can convince Blackfish to leave North with his army and give up Riverrun without bloodshed, he gets to keep his vows without outright betraying Cersei and at the same time winning back the castle with relatively no trouble.
But GoT's never had any win-win situations.

I always discussed the eps in the book thread for a reason! Basi totally got why and she's not even a Sullied. Sansa needs the Vale. I can't imagine what Petyr would want for his help but I'm sure he's not just going to ask for it. He will bide his time. Probably.
But Jaquen would have never been caught off guard by the Waif. that makes even less sense than Arya not having Needle.
And there's the little height issue. You can have a different face. Stretch that skin and stuff. You can even make yourself bulkier or dress to look thinner. Maybe wear shoes with high platforms to look taller. But how do you make yourself shorter?!

Doesn't Jaquuen still Arya a life? Has she unsaid his name yet? Maybe Jaquuen wanted to get shanked.
As to the rest: because magic, dammit.

Arya may have not unsaid Jaquuuen, but that was a trick anyway. Jaquuuen is really No One. Everyone knows that. And Arya said No One's name. So clearly she unsaid Jaquuuen's. Problem solved. Gimme more

From another forum:
It wasn’t Arya it was Jaquuuuen wearing her face
1. Walked like Jaquuuuuen, wore hair parted down the middle, threw the coin with the right hand (Arya is left handed)
2. Was too obvious. Arya would have never asked for a cabin. The money was thrown around too casually, even if she was capable of stealing such a sum.
3. Lingering shot of statue on the bridge, maybe sorry to leave. Arya hasn’t been there that long, doesn’t have a particular fondness for the place. Could have stowed away as a cabin boy too easily
4. Jaquuuuuuen’s life belongs to her. He promised her 3 lives to take for the Red God. He took 2, then she named him as her 3rd. Instead of dying he bargained and agreed to help her escape but then when he left he gave her the coin and told her to come to Braavos. And he gave her the words Valar Morghulis, all men must die. Knowing what we know about their relationship with death there would have been no bargain really. He believes in death
His life is owed to the Red God. No bargain can change his fate and he knows it. He willingly dies in Arya’s place, wearing her face, to fulfill the contract on his own life. He also was testing the Waif who did not fulfill the contract correctly by doing a belly wound instead of killing quickly. Waif is going to go out before he is gone officially.

And book Arya is left handed but Maisie is right handed. She once said she tried to go all left handed because: Arya but cannot. There is an interview on the web saying so.
Lingering shot on the bridge... Toward the Braavos Titan's legs. Her way out of Dodge! You know, towards Westeros. "We leave at dawn" - sounds like she was longing to be gone.
Jaquuuuuuen is no longer owing anything to her. Arya unsaid his name. See above.
Best part? When Waif stabs her, she is looking of a smaller statue. Jaquuuuuuuuen towers over the Waif.
But I liked it too! though as a standalone episode, actually the only one I liked this season. Was surprised the dialogues didn´t suck. Arya still sucks very hard though.
Lady Mormont needs 10 more scenes. Loved that little brat.

I really enjoyed how the Northern houses were not excited to get into another battle in the North. It makes sense, the last war took a giant toll on them. Sansa's assumption that they would happily join her war effort shows her naivete in these matters.

yes, I liked that very much too and I really like the actor playing Glover. The whole pledge and obedience to the big houses is very silly at this point. Sansa and Jon seem to forget King Robb was a bit of an asshole for the northerners.
