Nina Gold has offered the role of Oberyn Martell to Cosimo Fusco (Rome, Friends, Angels and Demons). I don’t know if he has accepted yet.
Someone over at WIC suggested that this guy and Nina Gold were in contact and that she has "offered" him the role. Don't know that there is any fact to it at all, could be BS bigtime, but here he is: Cosimo Cusco, I have no idea who he is.

Not what I expected but ...HOLY SHIT! This is some major casting news, and so soon too.
I just can't wait until the fandom explodes - "he's too white!"

Fury and I agree, "Latino" is not too white. As I said on Wicnet... I always felt an Andalusian sense to Dorne anyway. Nothing wrong with the guy looking like he walked off the set of an Almovodar movie....

YES!!!! love him, mwahahahahaaaa. That pic machuska posted... he doesn´t look dark at all (I don´t like the "latino" word) but for you white people maybe he is. Savoring the incoming rage, yeah,

He's doesn't look dark to me. Hell, my father is darker when he's tanned. And he's white. Oh well, I've given up on this coloring issue/POC branding, it makes zero sense to me.

Oh, Ly, you chose the worst pic possible! Have a look at these ones:
And here it's an add where you can see him
I don't know about his acting, but to me, his looks, his demeanor, and his age all screem red viper. Ever since darquemode mentioned him in wicnet last week I've been praying they'll get him, moreover knowing that he's worked with Nina Gold before. But alas, we got Pedro Pascal. How I feel about that? Well, it's not Cosimo, so I'm a bit disappointed
So... the Oberyn we got...
How I feel about him (Pedro)? Well... I am not familiar with anything he's done, but going by the pictures & videos he doesn't seem to transmit any of the famous viperish qualities, so I assume he's given an outstanding audition and that with a bit of make up and a lot of attitude he will transform onscreen. So I'm hopeful because so far Nina Gold's earned my trust. (Despite a few blips *cough* daenerys *cough*)
ps. The discussion in wic was hillarious, sad and scary at the same time. But in many parts the racism portrayed, often by those who were trying to flag the "diversity" flag was too much. I had to stop reading cause too many comments were making my skin crawl. Can we please refrain from using the word latino? Particularly on the context of trying to identify it with an implied ethnia or even a race? It is very offensive to many latin-americans, myself included.

We respectfully differ, Tir , I like my pic. And, I will apologize on behalf of Americans, like me, who refer to people of mexican, spanish, spanish isle and South Americans as "latinos". It is a "bundled term", like American Indians. We are just ignorant of peoples' heritage in most cases, so we use the term, "latino". However, having said that, how is this gentleman referred to? Chillean? I'm not sure. I also expected Oberyn to be Arab, or middle eastern. However, if Nina says this is who plays, then that's what we got. And if one more person over at WIC beats up on poor Al......
Hahaha! My bad, I thought you've chosen that pic to make fun of him and I really liked that casting. But the one we got doesn't look bad for the part, he just seems to lack the swagger.... but I haven't seen his acting, he might transform himself onstage. I'm hopeful. As I said, I trust Nina.
About the latino thing; No need to apologize, Ly, please! It's just that term has become loaded by people attaching heavy ethnic and ratial connotations to it... You can bundle us geographically as latin-americans, or southamericans in Pedro's case and mine, and nobody will bat an eyelid, that's fine!

Me, too, Al. My consolation is that I had no idea who Tom Wsavlsichsky was, no clue, and adored him as Jaqen. So, have my fingers, toes and eyes crossed that the same happens with Pedro

Nope I never got that ... he was always Southern Europe / Mediterranean i.e. French/Spanish/Italian to me. So I'm more than happy with Pedro's looks .
The Roynar fled to Westoros .. the people who lived around the river Rhoyne.. (Cough* Rhine.)
I do find it slightly troubling that George wasn't involved in the casting, I know he doesn't run the show but he's usually been a part of previous character castings.
@Al - I never got that impression, my understanding was that he sometimes watched the audition tapes because they sent them to him, not that he actually had a say in the casting for all characters. Not even the majority of them. Dunno, I could be wrong. Honestly, I'd rather have him write the damned books instead.
I don't think I was ever a "hater", however, I was open minded enough from Jaqen to hope that D&D would make it right. No, still don't think he's better than Oded, but what's done is done and I have high hopes for this guy doing one of my fav, last living characters.
