Poor Hershel. I thought he was done too. And Glenn was so far gone, it should've been over for him for sure. Little Lizzie is getting creepier with every single episode, and she was hilarious treating the zombie like a dog.

Rick's explanation to Carl of how to use an AR15 (rifle) was painful. Whoever wrote that dialogue needs bitchslap I know it's just a fluff show, but misuse and misinformation about guns is my pet peeve. They should be ashamed.

And the guv. Ugh. I guess they thought he was such a compelling character that we wanted to see him again this season. The only way I wanted to see him again was as a walker at the gates. It makes me not so excited about the next episode.

So yeah, I'm feeling a little bitchy about this episode. So tell me, is it just my mood, or was it really that annoying?

Know what I don't care about? What the governor has been doing since we last saw him. It would be awful if this whole episode is about him. Plus, if he looked Kurt Russell in Escape from LA, that would be dumb, y'know?

EDITED, AFTER VIEWING. Oh wait, that's what they did.  I certainly hope they don't do this for two weeks in a row.

Remember how Merle was a complete bag of shit? And in the end the show made him kinda likable and sorta made you feel sorry for him?
I guess Michael Rooker's smarmy charm helped in that transition, and he was not the complete psycho the Guv has been.
We'll have to see I suppose...

Oh yeah, I bet the creepy girl ( the one that names the zombies and treats em as pets ) was the one feeding them rat kibble...it has to be!

You have a point.  With the right writing, maybe they could make it interesting.  But really, I didn't think Merle was likable. And I didn't feel sorry for him. He was an over-the-top asshole till the bitter end. But I liked that he went out in the one way that would truly help his brother survive. And he did it with panache. That took serious balls, especially since he was alone.  He could've had Michonne as backup at least.  Really gutsy.

The last episode was "interesting".

We all agree that the Governor was a very poorly developed character last season, oddly written and inconsistent.
I am not certain what they attempting to do with him now, redeem his character? Or (and this I hope myself) give him a group to care about and make him lose them again. Driving him completely bonkers.

We never saw what this guy was like before the zombie apocalypse, he might've been a decent guy. Who became drunk with power after he became the head of Woodbury. I havent read the comics so I don't know.

But they have my attention and let 's see how it plays out.

I have to admit to being disappointed in the last two episodes. Each of them was focused on just one storyline. That approach can be fantastic if it's the climax of the season, as in Blackwater, or it can get tedious, as in these two episodes.

We've all seen the Guv play Mr. Nice Guy when it suits him. I guess we're supposed to believe that he genuinely cares for these people and has regained his sanity. My problem is I don't care one whit what the Guv does next. It's a little bit like the idea of a spinoff series. Yes, you can introduce a bunch of characters and have things happen to them. That doesn't mean I'm interested in watching.

Don's idea of him losing it all again would be interesting, especially if there's a way to blame it on the main characters. I think the only fun part for me will be seeing how he handles the reunion of people from his old life with his new group. There's an awful lot of ugliness he needs to keep swept under the rug. I'm hoping he doesn't opt for the predictable solution.

I'm curious about who's behind the rats. Any ideas other than the creepy little girls?

well, there is a spinoff with the Guv in the comics: "The Walking Dead: Rise of the Governor". Didn`t read.

Don, the Guv´s story in the comic is completely different. What I remember of the Guv`s previous life is he had a young brother, Philip, and the Guv (Brian, as he said in this last episode) despite being the eldest, was a weak kid and Philip had to look for him all the time. In the comic the little girl Michone killed (already a walker) was in fact Philip`s  daughter and it was him who kept her hidden and not the Guv. I think Philip went nuts and people killed him.

And the hate the man feels for Michone is because she tortured him good, drilled an arm, took the eye with a spoon (lol) and cut the man`s balls, ouch. So Guv-tv had it pretty easy.

Also in the comic the Guv killed Laurie and some others that are still alive in the show (thank you). Can´t say more because I don`t have a clue what the show writers will do. It was a good idea melt the Blakes tho, (Philip and Brian), in just one character but who knows what they will do later.

I`m watching and yes it`s better than last year but that´s pretty easy, last season sucked.

Merle looked hot without a shirt. Same can't be said for the Governor.

That it is. And it's so altruistic to give someone the heads up about it. After all, if you have to run, someone stumbling on their laces would sure take the pressure off...

I see what they did there.

Basically they used these two episodes to dig into the governors motivations. Rehabbing the cypher of last season. Now we clearly know while he is psychotic and crazy, he does care for certain things quite deeply and is willing to do ANYTHING to keep them safe.

GODDAMN MID SEASON FINALE NEXT WEEK!

You can wrap a turd up with a pink ribbon and sprinkle glitter on it, it's still a turd. The last two episodes could have been compressed into part of one and still have the same effect.

I think with some clever editing, you could've grabbed the last episode and swapped it with the season 3 finale and made for a perfect season 3!

Now till Feb, and you know what is great about that? GOT is almost back! yippie

Definitely the best episode so far this season, but I completely agree with Don. What a waste of five episodes.

All I could think as Rick and the Governor "negotiated" was that Rick's an idiot. He should have agreed to move everyone out. At least two cell blocks of the prison are contaminated with disease. The group could have returned after a couple of weeks, skewered the corpses and continued on without issues.

That being said, I'm glad Michonne got to skewer the guv and that the guv is dead. I'm sad that Hershel's dead. I didn't care for the fighting scenes, but I won't gripe about them. The only thing I really didn't like was Daryl's reaction to Carol's ouster. It was the one thing I had been looking forward to for three weeks, only to have it be short and anti-climactic. The writers missed a great opportunity there.

As soon as I saw Herschal smiling I knew he was going to get decapitated. Great episode, in fact the whole first half of season 4 has really restored my faith in this show. I do worry a little about the next half as they've really lost a strong villain in The Governor.

I thought the first half of the season was interesting, but I didn't really didn't like the Governor getting his own episodes.  I felt like he should have died in season 3.  But in retrospect, I like the Governor storyline more now than when it aired.  I'm glad that the show is moving on from the prison and the Governor.  I'm hoping for a fresh feel to the second half of the season.  There are so many fun possibilities for where the group goes from here and what kind of dangers they run into.

Hmmm, seems they are gonna focus on a small, seperate group of survivors each episode. This one was ok...different.
At least that, some odd parts like Michonnes dream...was freaky.

It was a fairly good episode. I loved the Michonne flashbacks. We're finally getting some backstory and they're fleshing out her character a bit. Carl's evolution would have been better over a couple of episodes, but I understand why they've done it this way. I was hoping Rick would die, but no such luck. I'm looking forward to seeing where some of the others ended up, and when Carol will reappear. Not an awesome start, but not bad either.

Finally, we get to find out that it was Michonne's boyfriend who was the zombie that she was walking around with all that time. And the other one was her friend. I knew it because of someone who read the comic let that slip.

You know, I'm actually annoyed. They had such intensity and momentum at the end of season 4a, and they completely let it dissipate. They could've started out 4b with the same intensity, and I'm bugged that they went straight to Rick and Carl strolling along the road. There. I said it. Lol.

Do characters other than Rick and Carl not matter in the grand scheme of things? Because that's the vibe I got. I was disappointed by this episode. The episode couldn't choose a single pace, either giving too little time to nuanced things or giving far too much time to obvious things. Painfully long scenes with Maggie and Glenn. Rushed scenes with everyone else. Why give 9 characters the same amount of time you devoted to three characters last week? It was uneven and uninspired, like they were just filling time and going through the motions to get to some climax a couple of episodes from now. They should have given these characters more thoughtful handling. Instead they seem to be on autopilot.

I did like the explorations of different characters' reactions to what had happened. Despair, faith, numbness, hope, often coming from those from whom you would least expect it. Some more time to explore this would have been welcome. And I love that Tyrese and Carol have been thrown together with the girls. This could be fun.

This made the episode worthwhile for me. I'm delighted Carol is back. I wish they'd spent more time on certain groups as well. No time at all with Maggie. That was sad. But where the hell did her extreme Southern Accent come from? She didn't have it that bad before.

ZOMG! Carol! And Samurai Glenn!

I might have to rewatch, but how the hell did Glenn end up at the prison? I swore he was on the bus like Maggie thought. Hmmm.

Best episode of the new ones so far. What's with Dr. Mullet who can't use a rifle? I'm glad they've added a few more characters, but I hope they aren't part of an attempt to do a spinoff series. I'm looking forward to Rick, Carol and Tyrese's reunion. Please let it happen before the season is over. We need some excitement. Oh, and I love that creepy Lizzy is the "normal" daughter in True Detective.

I quite liked the last episode, very intense stuff with the "Home Alone Rick edition", wonderfully tense and sharp direction.

The Carl and Michonne stuff was nice, but am I the only one disturbed by the massive character reboot they have done with her? I don't care how much time has passed but the glaring/mute Michonne from season 3 is not the same person as the sweet/caring/smiley one we have now.

I should not complain too much, she is a lot more interesting, it is just the super dramatic change seems a bit flagrant.

No, you are not the only one. Every time she smiles I shudder Creepy. And yes, you can complain, the changes in her character, (although welcome), are too big to ignore and quite cheap (using the baby and blah blah). It´s better now but lordy, these writers never heard about character development... I guess I shouldn´t expect subtlety in a zombie show.

Oh, and Eugene is here already. We´ll see.biggrin

You could argue that bonding with Judith and her experience alone in the woods has allowed Michonne to open part of herself that she had shut off. She does have a bond with Carl...getting candy and comics and that family photo for him. But yeah, it's a pretty drastic change. I think it's an improvement, but it would've been nice if they had taken a few minutes to explain the changes.

That being said, this was the best episode so far after a pretty mediocre start. I'm hoping they can build on it to make the season worthwhile.
