It is technically summer 2013, and I have just been to see Jack the Giant Killer. Personally I really enjoyed this latest "fairy tale" adaptation. Though at just over 2hrs, it was perhaps a little long, and induced numb bum syndrome. That said, the cast all did a great job, especially Ewan Mc Gregor, but then he always does, (imo). The VFX were mostly pretty good, but I felt that the giants could have been better, although it made me smile when i heard the leader of the giants had a Northern Irish accent. He must have been a relation of Fin MacCool, our famous causeway builder. Anyhoo, all in all a fun couple of hours. Recommended.
Oddly enough, I am looking forward to The Long Ranger , Wolverine, Percy Jackson.

Saw Iron Man III this past weekend. First three shows were sold out, thought I was going to see Twilight again, jeez. Much better than II which I saw completely this weekend too. Love the cameo with Stan Lee . and I jumped up and down in our seats, "Stan Lee, Stan Lee". Actually heard some idiots say, "Who is Stan Lee?". 2.5 hours, so bring some liquor.

Yeah I liked the first Ironman, did not like the rushed sequel. This one was a lot of fun.
Spoiler
I was surprised that he spent a good deal of the film without his suit and that actually helped the film, and the bait and switch with The Mandarin was great.
Good deal of humor and heart in this one...now on to Avengers 2!

Star Trek was fun! I am a fan of the new Trek reboot. But boy there are a lot of purists that shit on the new films, I guess no one can enjoy anything anymore.

I'm not a purist, I'm not even a Star Trek fan, but can we pleeeeeease never have Chris Pine and Eomer come back...for any movie...EVER? They're laughably bad. I had some fun with this one though. Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldana were good, and you can't really go wrong with Cumberbatch as a villain. Basically, you can't go wrong with Cumberbatch as anything.
Just saw "Now You See Me", wow, wow, wow! Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), chick from Inglourious Basterds (Shoshannah), Facebook geek movie guy, Woody Harrelson (sp?), Isla Fisher. Really good flick

So I saw "Man Of Steel" and it's indeed a mixed bag, I liked the characters, they had heart and good performances all around. I liked how the story had flashbacks mix into the main narrative, quite seamlessly. The action was also quite amazing and wow, that score...might be Hans Zimmer's best in years.
However, the film was also a bit...joyless? Not all comic book movies need a joke every 3 minutes like the Avengers, but I mean EVERYONE in this film was so sullen. Plus, the plot was overly convoluted and there were plotholes you could fly an alien spaceships through ( and I normally don't knitpick plotholes! )
Still, I liked it better than Superman Returns

Agreed Al, it was well directed and had some very decent action set pieces. It also was quite bloodless, I like my zombie movies gooey.
Two observations ( spoilers! )
1. So Elyes Gabel who quit his Game Of Thrones Rhakaro role to be in this flick, I was excited to see him. And then 8 minutes later he dies in the most rediculous way I have ever seen. I had to laugh it was so lame, hope it was worth quitting GOT for this dude!
2. I thought it was kinda hilarious how Israel was nice and safe, and then a bunch of Palestinians break into song and then the zombies swarm the city and get overrun....ummm....seriously?

Saw Lena Heady in "The Purge", thought it was good. Saw World War Z, and didn't know it was a zombie flick. Zombies = eating brains. These zombies simply bite people, like vampires. Whole movie revolves around Brad Pitt, no other big name actors in it. If you are going simply as a Pitt fan, you will not be disappointed. Otherwise, meh. Give me George Romero.

I wanted to burst out laughing during that moment, Khaleesi would not be proud.
BTW what did you think of the Pepsi placement ? I thought it was one of the most shameless and blatant product placements I have ever seen.
Yes, Mr. Highlander, the Pepsi was shameless. I leaned over to my Aunt and said, "I would have died, I must have Coke".

Took the little Lannisters to see "Epic". I wasn't epic . It's like there was something missing, left you wanting. Christoph Waltz does the voice of the bad guy, so, I was hoping for cool stuff from him, but, it's like they didn't give him a script worth a shan. Wait to see it for free if you can.

Pacific Rim was horribly written and acted, but visually so yummy. It was worth it just to see the effects. But not even Stringer Bell could fix the rest.
We saw The Great Gatsby last night. And by saw I mean forcing ourselves to sit through at least half of the movie, mouth agape and incapable of coherent speech because of how shockingly bad it was.
Saw Pacific Rim, it's the kind of movie you should really see in the cinema. I am the annoying asshole that goes "yeaahhh" "BOOM" "HOLY FUCK" "AWESOMEEEE" behind you during these ridiculously fun movies.
I saw Two Guns this weekend, and I have to say that I haven't been that entertained by a movie in a long time. The dialogue was hilarious, and the delivery was perfect. Could've been written by my brother, the goofiest bastard on the planet. Who woulda thought? I expected it to be a boring shoot-em-up, especially with Mark Wahlberg in it. I was genuinely surprised.
