I liked Elysium, but didn't love it like District 9. It's pacing was a bit over the place, and some plot holes had my head scratching.
It looked beautiful tho, and good acting by Damon and Copley, Jodie Foster was actually not good at all. Her odd accent and character was a bit cheesy and not in a fun way.

Kick-Ass 2 has been getting average reviews, not sure If I'll see it in the theater.
I am however going to see The Conjuring tomorrow, I've heard very good things about it. It's been a long time since I've seen a good horror movie.
Saw the Conjuring. It's o.k., give me The Rite with Anthony Hopkins, my

Kick Ass 2 wasn't as good as the first one , but We're The Millers is full on chuckle funny , I love my Will Poulter, watched his career since School of Comedy . Brilliant young actor.
Oh he has a movie coming up with DA's Ed Speleers and our Alfie Allan . Interesting.
and another with Thomas Brodie-Sanster ! Let's get him on GoT he would add some much needed comdey! H aha! Now who could he be ....?

Elysium was really disappointing, got nowhere near the levels of District 9 and yes Jodie Foster must have delivered one of THE worst acting performances I have ever seen, give her a fucking Razzie please. I'm a Matt Damon fanboy, but he couldn't save this movie. 5/10
Maybe too low for you, but perfect for me. This movie had nothing going for it except its pretty pictures in my eyes. The plot was cliché-ridden, had nothing surprising or original and was full of holes, the villains were over the top cartoonesk and the acting was really bad in some places. I'm not going to say you should change the way you think about this movie, each his own arguments and preferences. In fact when I'm thinking about it again, it probably deserves even less than a 5.
Saw the new Percy Jackson. Very bad. Skip it at the theatre but if you must, watch it for free on-line. My almost left the show twice. Please see freak out thread.

Pacific Rim was a lot of fun! My inner 14 year old was jumpin' for joy!
Just watched it yesterday, and all I have to say about that is.... reeeeeaaaaaaaaally?
First half of Elysium wasn't that bad tho. I should watch the other half, but only if Sharlto Copley and his funny accent gets to stick around a bit more.
Don't think this qualifies for a "summer movie" anymore, but Joss Weldon's "Much Ado About Nothing" IMHO , really, really bad. Shakespear in "modern life" to me does not work. Give me Branagh's version instead, much, much better. Joss, I can't believe you did that

It was OK. Too sappy for my tastes. It just oozes for award nominations. But visually it was stunning. And I would still bang an aged Sandy Bullock. Especially when she's wearing those vball shorts.

Did you not like Children of Men or The Prisoner of Azkaban?
I liked Children of Men, but that's because I was interested in the story. There's something about his directing style that I don't like, but I can't put my finger on it. Didn't like Prisoner of Azkaban. I know it's a fan favorite, but it's my least favorite Potter movie.

His "long takes" are showoffy and come off as gimmicky...he argues immersion, I find it distracting. Still, Gravity might be his best film IMO

So 5 minutes after I said here I would skip this movie all together I went to see this movie (fucking sue me). My brother-in-law said to me (without having knowledge of my Bullock-hate) that despite his hatred for Bullock he enjoyed the movie immensely so my sister insisted I'd go see it with her. Must admit: movie was very good. Sandra Bullock was awful 80% of the time, doing her panic-rom-com stint in fucking space ffs, but even she had a good moment or two. Most of all, the aspect of space was what kept me on the edge of my seat all 90 minutes, the tension in the cinema was palpable. Sound and visuals were spectacular. And hey, a 90-minute blockbuster, some moviemakers should take fucking note of that. *cough* Peter Jackson *cough*
Saw "Now You See Me", what a bunch of crap that was. Pretty much everything was terrible, but what I hated the most was the terrible "oh look how smart this script is" bullshit that oozed through the sceen and was never as unjustified as in this movie. Avoid at all costs.
Really? I liked it a lot, Japie, but then again, I went for pure entertainment. And Isla Fisher is a doll, and the Hulk is in there

Saw Pacific Rim, it's the kind of movie you should really see in the cinema. I am the annoying asshole that goes "yeaahhh" "BOOM" "HOLY FUCK" "AWESOMEEEE" behind you during these ridiculously fun movies.
Seriously late for this party but hell to the yeah, it was very fun. I was surprised how much I enjoyed this flick. Saw it on pay-per view, would imagine it was awesome in the theater. I can not, however, see Charlie Hunnam in this. I bought into the fighting part, but he is Jax Teller to me, did not resonate in this flick, didn't pass the smell test.

Saw Man of Steel and it was awesome. 90% of that awesomeness was the score, but still. I read the main criticism for this movie was that it was joyless, but that was what made it so good for me. The few quips it had were just awful awful awful. Also, Amy Adams and Superman had no chemistry whatsoever and their acting left much to be desired. Hmm, the more I will think about it the more I will start disliking it. So, volume at max, blow up your speakers and enjoy the movie.
So I saw "Man Of Steel" and it's indeed a mixed bag, I liked the characters, they had heart and good performances all around. I liked how the story had flashbacks mix into the main narrative, quite seamlessly. The action was also quite amazing and wow, that score...might be Hans Zimmer's best in years.
However, the film was also a bit...joyless? Not all comic book movies need a joke every 3 minutes like the Avengers, but I mean EVERYONE in this film was so sullen. Plus, the plot was overly convoluted and there were plotholes you could fly an alien spaceships through ( and I normally don't knitpick plotholes! )
Still, I liked it better than Superman Returns
Late again to the party for Man of Steel. Just saw it last night and think it is in my top 10 for 2013. I agree with everything that Don says . I did love the kissing scene, good chemistry, major hotness. Also Cavill is wonderful in this role. Did I mention he looks fab with his shirt off? :faints: Loved that Gladiator is his biological dad and Kostner is his earthly dad, it works. Great cast, although his bio mom is lacking, old wet blanket. Love Diane Lane as his earth mom, she does great with what she's given. Def my fav Superman flick.

Every time I watch these movies you talk about here I understand why I like old movies more and more. Most of these movies I didn´t watch or watched them long after you did. Like Elysium. That´s how Hollywood ruins a good director. First part of the movie, the presentation of the characters and conflict was ok but boy all the rest went to hell. Was good to have a selfish and flawed leading man and then suddenly Max is a messianicsavior? and the director based that on wut? a kid telling a story? an old woman´s babble? (and of course she had to be mexican or something and speak spanish). The script is just bad. All that strange documentary feeling District 9 had is lost in this movie.I´ve seen this so many times, when all the technical and aesthetics aspects of a movie are well planned but nobody really cared for a more "planned" script. Hollywood at its worst. But you know, it´s Hollywood telling an almost marx-ish kinda story so.
Ugh Jodie Foster was painful. And that´s another thing, all the actors seemed like playing for different movies. Matt Damon fan here too but yes he´s not enough to make this movie right. So I guess I`ll keep watching and loving old movies.

Watched Blue Jasmine, Woody Allen movie. I liked this movie very much and it was a surprise because for a long time I didn´t like Allen´s movies. Is a disguised adaptation of an A Streetcar named desire. So many similar characters, had no idea this movie was like that. Cate Blanchet is amazing in this. And I thought some of the acting had lots and lots of improvisation or something like that. That was truly nice. Some scenes are so awkward and good. Saasgaard wut a tool.
But lordy how stupidly happy I felt with Louie CK and Sally Hawkins. I love these two to bits. Please do 50 more movies together. Wut a strange and perfect and silly pair.

hated this movie, all the characters but one or two were awful people. And by hating, I don't mean it qualifies as a bad movie because the acting and all was great, but no, just no. I will forever hold it against Woody Allen to make Louis CK an asshole. Fak U Woody.

Apes, Radioactive Lizards sans Asian overdubs, XMen. That's all I want to see. But I'll wait for my Asian to bring me a bootleg copy of each. $4 well spent. Even if it is used to fund Communism.

I am getting hyped for Edge of Tomorrow, it seems to fly a bit under the radar of the other big tentpoles of this moviesummer. I am a sucker for these time-loop movies (and Emily Blunt). This review makes it almost seem too perfect:
"It's "Aliens" meets "Groundhog Day" meets "Starship Troopers" meets "Source Code", and each of those films' best traits are expertly deployed into "Edge of Tomorrow". "
