Ok, ok! I didn't know ye were talking special effects big, I thought it was storypoint big. Like... what will shock the viewers kinda big.
I think Stannis at the wall should be big, but I don't think it'll be Blackwater big. I don't think any other battle will of the ones we know so far are going to be that big, but hey, hopefully I'm wrong.

I'd say Tyrion killing Shae and Tywin is pretty big for Season 4

War at the wall is a little vague, I think. Plus, Mance's attack is not a one time thing, it's more like a trench war, you'd need at least two or three episodes covering that. Styr's attack, on the other hand, would happen fairly early in S4, if we look at the timeline from the book. Me think the biggie for S4 will be Stannis' arrival at the Wall (most likely episode 9). AFFC/ADWD is a lot tougher, mainly because I don't think both books can be done in one season. And if we have 2, I'm not sure where the split would be...I may need to sleep on that.
Do you guys think that they'll only have 2 slave cities and merge say Astapor and Yunkai?

That's assuming that they conclude Season 4 with the second half of ASOS. I'm still thinking that they're going to at the very least get into some of AFFC and ADWD before Season 4 is out. I'd like to think that they're going to endeavor to try to finish the series for the run of the show, which my guess will be 8 seasons.

Tir, I don't even remember what happens in Yunkai, and I re-read that part last week. Is that the part with the crucified (or something like that) slaves? I only remember Astapor because of the dracarys scene, and the fact she put a council in charge of the city and left. Really competent, Dany. So yes, my guess is that - for budget reasons - we'll only have Astapor & obviously Mereen, with bits of Yunkai attached to one or the other (or both). I wonder if TV fans will be just as exasperated with Mereen & Co. as book readers were. For the sake of the show, I hope not. Re-reading ADwD now and Dany's chapters are even more painful to read than the first time. Yeah, let's keep hostages but refuse to even consider threatening their lives. Smart.
Also, when I was thinking of "big episodes" I was going by what we had so far - deaths & battles. ASoS is filled with decisive moments but for me the first things that come to mind are the Red Wedding and the Mance's attack coupled with Stannis' arrival at the Wall. With AFfC and ADWD it's a bit harder because everything seems to happen right near the end, so if I stick to my guess that they'll want to split those as well, then it's harder to draw distinctive lines. It can be done in one season, but I think it would come out even more rushed that S2.
Yunkai is where the "mother! Mother!" scene happens, where Dany meets Mero and Daario for the first time and where she gives Jorah the telling off. QUite a clever plan devised by a little girl who is "innocent in the ways of war". The council in charge of the city parts lets me think of South Africa yes it's freedom but doesn't mean things are better.

Macha, sorry for the confusion. I'm attempting to convey that this Topic should be moved to Game of Thrones
section as here reside the ASOIAF Book Discussion Category. Television Subtopic is for general TV and cable.
I had the impression that this was a " Adaptation" or Season Speculation Thread. Spoilers would be likely.
Interesting about the new rule though of not venturing in on ASOIAF Book Discussons, I assumed that was a
default protocol or a given, if they ventured in with intent they know the risk. There is also a Topic for those Still
Reading ASOIAF books too, in case someone just began reading and want a forum to discuss or share thoughts.
and not become plaqued by old timers debating theories.
It never occured to me that the Game of Thrones Category would be viewer only by the way this site is formatted.
I had hoped for a separate and easier distinction for " Viewer Only Category " devoid of spoilers ( I did set up a
general, spoiler free Forum Topic , but I'm sure that's lost in the sea of topic choices ). A Game of Thrones
Subcategory would sort that out and promote a user friendly easily found subjects. Anyway, no worries, I'm
fine with being a old timer, my individual needs are more than met.

So now we know that the RW will be in ep. 9, with David Nutter directing it. I don't believe we have confirmation on the writer(s) though?
I admit to being just a little bit dissapointed with their choice of director, but all in all Nutter did direct Ser Rodrik's execution, and that works in his favor.

explain that pic, please.
Yes, about directors and writers I don´t know if I give a damn anymore but RW will need very good screenplayers and directors. Nutters directed something I like, let me think. Or help me.

I want to hear more non-reader speculation. I always find them fresh. i have read the books to death like some of us here. Love to see the new perspective.
Same here, Amsterpaul. Currently our only active non-reader member is Black as Snow, and sometimes she knocks me off my feet with her ideas, she's very perceptive so we're always trying to be extra-careful around her because she wants to read the books only after the show ends. Here are some of the topics aimed at non-readers: S3 speculation, Brienne, Stannis, review of S2.
I never speculate. Wish I could contribute more. I have only read the books twice. I am amazed and how much some of you have read them. I have a hard time re-reading things. I like to try new stuff and I hate reading more than one book at a time.

I can´t speculate either, completely useless for that and I read the books just once. Don´t think I´ll do a re-read. I don´t even do that with books I really really liked. Ok, maybe just a few.

Aegon, you have a gifted memory. Be grateful for it, but don't scuff us mere mortals for not remembering as much. Most people don't.

Can't help it, just do. Although there's alot I don't know.
Mine is more my age, Aegon. I just can't recall things like I used to. It's not that I'm not paying attention, it's simply that sometimes I can recall events in the books, and sometimes I can't. Not for lack of trying. You mind is a steel trap, your Grace. Mine was when I was your age, too. Hopefully, you will be that sharp in 25 years!

I believe that the last three episode are just going to be take our breath away. My question is going to be the impact of new characters. Some are based on the book are some are completely new combination of book characters. I may get it from some but I am a fan a of Ros. In ASOIAF there are so many whores its hard to keep track of them all. So Ros suits perfectly. I am excited to she her character develop.
Yes your are right, the red wedding will be big event in Ep3. I am also looking forward to the part when Grey Winds head is removed and sewn onto Robb starks body
Hello, dusty ol' thread.
Predictions for S5 E09? My guess would be Battle in the North coupled with Battle of Meereen. It does sound a bit absurd to place both in the same episode, though. Battle in the North and Jon stabbing in Ep.9, or will they save that shocking last bit for E10? Grim way to end it then.
I think the producers will learn from this season and pepper the season with cliffhangers. Methinks that Drogon freaking out and whisking Dany away might happen in Episode 6 or 7 of season 5.
It was one of my fave parts of book 5.

Yes, but continuous cliffhangers have also the tendency to tire out the reader/ watcher. Things like "when she [Arya] woke up she was blind" that are contradicted in the next chapter (could be the same with Jon's assassination) just loose their impact after a while. S4 had punch after punch, but I'm not necessarily sure it's a recipe for success. And they'd have to invet a lont of things to keep that rhythm going after S4.
I'm sure Dany flying on Drogon would be earlier than ep9, but I always thought people actually flying on dragons on the show would look cheesy as fuck. Very curious to see how they'll pull it off.

I think they might go for the flying dragon scene for the finale though. Can't think how they'll have the budget for the 2 battles to be fully fleshed onscreen and the other storyline doesn't have another cut point that would work as a season ending (the way it was cut in the books sucks, i dont need to tell ye).
Either that or we'll get the battle for Mereen onscreen and the battle for the north akin to the first battles we saw, cut to black and aftermath. And I would bloody hate that. :grumpy tir:

Can I/we safely say that we will get at least Victarion Greyjoy (on HBO) since he is in Winds of Winter? I don't know anymore since this story has taken a turn (many) for the D&D show.

I'm willing to bet both Euron and Vic make it into the show. Not Dampyhead, I think we could do without him. Random Drowned God priest from S2 was sexier anyway.
I think this finale is all packed, plus it'd be weird because neither him now Asha had an arc this season (the Dreadfort doesn't count). It would be more fitting next season, me thinks, opening the whole story about his succession.
I don't know where to put his but I suppose this is a good a thread as any. I was just wondering what we can speculate about season 6: Oldtown is in with Sam and Sarella Sand. Euron with his raid of the Reach and supposedly Queensmoot since Balon Greyjoy dies and Theon/ Asha are still around as heirs to the Seastone Chair. I think they will keep Varys and Tyrion for at least half season running Meereen while Jorah and Daario are off searching for Dany. This is where it gets tricky because technically Tyrion and Varys need a plot in Meereen will they do the Volantis, Quarth and Yunkai against Meereen? I doubt it. But this is a good speculation point.
