I always do! It's pretty cool to watch them grow up.
The mama in the picture was born the year I moved into this house.
This is her first year having a fawn.
There were a couple of other fawns out back today with another mama.
Later in the year the bucks will show up, and I'll get to watch them compete for the various doe.
I got a great video last year of a couple of bucks locking antlers, although it looked more like they were just having fun, as opposed to determining dominance.

Pierre had lymphoma. I couldn't coax him into eating anymore. The vet was out of ideas that would make any difference for him. But Pierre went from being a little refugee from a fire fifteen years ago to being the head of a herd of girls and going on all sorts of adventures. His life was good until it wasn't. I will miss his gentle strength and his kindness.
Awww, shan, I'm so sorry, Lady Black I hate it when animals die. Most are cooler than people. So glad he had a wonderful home at Lady Black Farms .

I'm so sorry about Pierre, BaS. But like you said, he had a good, full life, and that's just the way things are and have to end. None of us will be around forever.
Our dogs are not doing so well either, one of them is dying of old age, and my little one has a tumor in her mouth that has spread without us knowing it. She's going into operation tomorrow, but we don't even know if she can take it at her age. Either way, even if she doesn't wake up from anesthesia, it's still better than her suffering.
Oh, crap, Macha, that sucks I hope your woofer does well and your other woofer goes in his/her sleep.

The surgery went ok for my little one, but even if she's in perfect health otherwise, she's got bone cancer and there's nothing we can do anymore really. When the tumor comes back we'll have to put her down to spare her the pain. At least she'll be better now, at least for a while, which is the best we can give her.
Glad the surgery went well. What ever time you have left with her is a blessing. I'm with Don, can't stand sick pets or when they pass. I'm a puddle

So I'm calling a vet tomorrow to talk about home euthanasia for Banjo. He's got cancer and has lost about 8 lbs. in the last couple of months. He constantly vomits his food back up. It's a really hard thing for me, but he's almost 14 years old and for a medium to large dog, that's quite up there. He's had a good long life. I don't know how to do this any other way.

So sorry to read this Cary. I fucking hate that disease. I can't imagine what a little soul goes through. A human at least has some conscientious idea of what is happening to him or her. Maybe animals do too but who knows. You're trying to do what's best, no doubt. It will probably be a relief for him, though a heartbreak for you.

I'm basically copying and editing my post from Facebook. Don't feel slighted. I don't have much in the way of energy right now.
We sent Banjo Stimey "Stanky Dog" Hanelt Bass-Deschênes off at around 5:25 this evening. He was in his bed, and was comfortable, after having managed to scarf down some of the chicken that our friend Steve brought over. Dr. Ivey of http://www.peaceforpets.net/ made a house call to administer the drugs needed. Along with Steve and Michael, our house mate Patrick shared the moment with us as well.
For me it was particularly hard because Banjo was still able to get around, still wanted to eat, still not showing that he was in much pain. He did not let us know in any clear means, but the fact that his cancer was progressive, that he was losing 2-3 lbs a week, and was down to 75% of his body weight, and we were 100% certain he was not going to improve was good enough. His days were starting to be more bad than good. I think it was the right time and it was the right decision at the right time. I just wish I could feel that.

And now I am going to tell you a story about my catte. Riley used to get up on the table at every meal time and sniff our food, plates, utensils, etc. Once you put him back on the floor, he would hop right up and keep doing it until he was satisfied he had shoved his nose into everything . One day, I left the top off the Tabasco sauce for him.
And he never got on the table again.

As soon as those cameras are off I am going to fuck that little dog.
Today was a very sucky day, my dog Jimmy's cancer came back and tumors were again growing all over his body.
It seems he was hurting all over, yet he still ate and was so sweet to me as always, but we went to the vet and put him to sleep.
I was there the whole time and at least he is not in pain anymore.
I feel really bad for Yoshi, she had been around Jimmy since she was a pup and they were best buddies and she knows something is up, ugh this sucks.
