I just learned that the rumored publication of " Dangerous Women " containing the fourth Dunk & Egg Novella____which was to be available in May 2013 AND Amazon.com listing for the Dunk & Egg Collection ____for 2014 , are NOT FIXED DATES.
Final decision lies with the publishers ( Tor and Bantam ) who will be making them down the road. That said , 2013 and 2014 respectively IS entirely possible ( per CET by Elio at Westeros.org)
The next Dunk and Egg story is about the " She Wolves of Winterfell " ( confirmed title ) and highly anticipated.
GRRM has been quoted with mentioning as many as 10 Tales/ Novellas of Dunk an Egg in spite of unconfirmed rumors of only 5. There still is not confirmation of whether a bound volume consisting of 4 or 5 tales will become available in 2014, but the rumors persist.
Now, if only we can receive a confirmed publishing update of " The Winds of Winter ". Hahahahahahaha
My pre-order for " The Lands of A Song of Ice and Fire " will be in transit by mid October according to Amazon .com. I'll spill the details next month.
Are there any other newsworthy book talk on the horizon ?
I'm gonna purchase the " Foods of A ASIAF ' , I hear it's great.
Note: I cleaned up this topic. Both me and Aegon misread the title or expected something else. I deleted my comment before seeing any reply, otherwise I would have proceeded differently. Thank you for alerting me.
I believe Aegon had read correctly, only he wanted definitive dates on something in particular. There was only one TV reference reply,I think yours, I responded to that .
I hope we learn of more announcements in the future.
" The Lands of Ice and Fire " is a flop, do not waste any cash on this. Mine arrived 3 days ago, the maps are actually poorly designed posters. The quality is no better than you drawing it yourself, the colors and clarity is deplorable. I'm returning it ASAP.

Good to know Wildwoman, thanks for the info.

I'm hearing a lot of disappointing things about the maps. Most notably, their fold-out nature. If someone takes them out and looks at them more than a few times, the pages start to tear and holes appear at the intersections. The best use for them appears to be to take a map out once and frame it. That's a lot of crap to hang on the walls if you do all of them. But one would make a good Christmas gift idea for a fellow ASOIAF fan.
I think there's a commercial opportunity here. This site has several artists, very very talented artists, who could really do a bang-up job on ASOIAF maps. If you put that artwork on some high-quality medium, folks would eat that up. Vellum would be nice, but if you want ye olde authenticity, I'd use goat skin. But where would someone get that?
Anyway, just daydreaming.

Here's a reference point for progress on The Winds of Winter:
Last reported, there are 200 finished pages with another 200 in some other stage of development. Mr. Martin has stated the book will not be out in 2013.
My 50 cents: a lot of those pages are material moved from A Dance with Dragons. While it's nice that there is evidence of actual writing, this is the same man who had oodles of pages after years of writing A Feast for Crows, said "fuck it", and dumped it in the shredder.

These 400 pages have been there as long as I know it. Sad to say, I don't think there's an actual progress, but that it is - like Atreyu pointed out - just material that's been moved from ADwD (possibly including an outline or finished chapters for the battle in Mereen and the one in the North).I do wonder if there's any real pressure coming from HBO though.
GRRM has said the book will not be out in 2013. Some have interpreted this to mean the book would be out in 2014. Take that with as much salt as GRRM uses to season his neeps. The smart money is on late 2014, in time for Christmas.
The REALLY smart money is on never. By GRRM's hand, anyway.

From the article: "There's still two gigantic books to go (five have been released; Martin is halfway through the sixth of seven)"
Please note that the "halfway through" bit is an inference made by GQ, not a direct quote from GRRM.
Could mean anything. I'd like to know how GQ came up with "halfway through"; anyone thinking "ZOMG! the book will be out late 2013!" need to check themselves and lower their expectations. That said, I would be quite happy if the interwebz were flooded with fans posting their glee at the impending release of TWOW and the ensuing chaos if this turns out not to be true. And it probably isn't.
Who knows? Maybe GRRM has hit the 750 manuscript page mark (IIRC, AFFC and ADWD were about 1500 pages) ...
ETA: CONFIRMATION! GURM Inc. has stated the assertion that TWOW is halfway done is 100%, money in the bank, balls-on ... not true. Damn, that was quick. I still hope the rumor percolates for a while.

I'm *sure* D&D know the important bits, so worst case scenario we'll still know how some of the stories would have ended, even if they don't finish the series on TV either (there will definitely be interviews, of who knows - they're both writers after all). Interesting info, Atreyu. Has someone tried to contact GRRM about that on his blog (without getting banned )? Meh, I suppose he doesn't answer questions like that anyway. The outrage if a date would be confirmed only for something a la ADWD to happen again would be huuuge, I imagine.

I totally agree with you about the smartest money. GRRM is in such bad physical shape that he could drop dead at any moment leaving us all hanging. Who would finish the saga? I don't know writers well enough to speculate. However, whether they will be published or not is the main question. Who has GRRM told the entire story to? Is he making this fantasy up as he goes?

Me too, Paul. Why isn't Jenny Craig camping out on his doorstep? I'm so afraid the poor man will stoke out or have a heart attack before this series is done. Agree with Macha that D&D surely know some of the plans for the next two books.

A little birdie told me there is a very tentative release date for TWOW. The message was hard to understand between its bursts of laughter, but that's what I heard. Kinda. The little birdie is Goodreads, which has TWOW penciled in for release in 2015.
I report. YOU DECIDE!

All you Dunk & Egg readers -- BIG NEWS! The long-awaited and overly-delayed anthology Dangerous Women is delivered. GRRM must have put aside all other projects and moved Dunk & Egg to the top of the heap so ... wait ... this just in: no Dunk & Egg in the anthology, just a bit from his Encyclopedia concordance. Oh well. BUT WAIT! This also just in: the Dunk & Egg stories will be offered in a collection in 2014! Yippee! Huh? Wait again? This also also just in: this collection will only contain existing Dunk & Egg material.
Nothing to see here!
ETA: Fuck you, Warner Bros. This one's better anyway.
ETA2: Spaceballs may also suck mine. Third time's the charm!

YvyB, not yet. It's delivered. I assume that means all the writing and editing are finished. Probably the only thing left to determine is in what font size does GRRM's name appear on the cover.

More information on The Princess and the Queen (nee The She-Wolves of Winterfell) appearing in Dangerous Women. Someone who would know about these things said the story is a novella, some 30,000+ words. It takes place 80 years before A Game of Thrones and details the events leading up to The Dance of the Dragons. Sounds like some internecine nastiness between Targs. So ... a 30,000 word long cliffhanger. I assume this means the actual Dance of the Dragons will be resolved in the Encyclopedia, which should help with sales.

So wait, there *is* a new novella coming out? And by a new novella I mean a new Dunk & Egg. When is this anthology being published anyway?
Last question first: no publication date yet. There will be a new Dunk and Egg coming out. But not this year. And don't look for it in 2014, either: that's when the first three will appear in a compilation. No details on that.
Here's a rundown:
The Hedge Knight appeared in Legends (1998)
The Sworn Sword appeared in Legends II (2003)
The Mystery Knight appeared in Warriors (2010)
The She Wolves of Winterfell appearing ???
In June of 2012, GRRM hoped to have The She Wolves of Winterfell completed by WorldCon (August/September 2012). Soooo, GRRM went from done in three months to perhaps in 2015. Maybe sooner. Maybe later. Only the shadowbaby knows.

GRRM has confirmed that he was not writing this morning as the power was out. Before you get your hopes up, he did not specify what, exactly, he was thinking of writing about. Coulda been Dunk & Egg (overdue), the piece for the other Dozois anthology (overdue), a sidebar for the Encyclopedia (overdue) or even polishing up an inventory list for the Facebook game. I DID NOT MAKE THAT LAST ONE UP. HE ACTUALLY DOES THIS. What is known is that he thought about writing this morning and felt saddened that he was unable to write.
Stay tuned ...

A release date has been announced for The World of Ice and Fire: The Official History of Westeros and The World of A Game of Thrones -- October 29, 2013. That last bit was recently tacked on; most likely to differentiate this offering from the HBO series the co-authors love so much. The art in this ersatz encyclopedia does looks excellent, we'll see if the contents approach that quality. Many will purchase and many will enjoy. The Edelweiss site calls westEros.org the definitive site for all things ASOIAF. Which is bullshit because it's GRRM's marketing platform and one of the co-author's STILL hasn't read the last 1/3 of ASOS. Whatever.

http://edelweiss.abovethetreeline.com/ProductDetailPage.aspx?sequence=22&group=catalog&mailingID=0&mailingGroupID=0&catalogID=81030&org=&sku=0553805444 (some details, though they have the price incorrect, I'm pretty sure it's $25.00 US American paper Mr. Washingtons)
http://www.amazon.co.uk/The-World-Ice-Fire-Official/dp/0553805444/?tag=westeros-21 (fewer details, but they misspelled one of the co-author's names, which is funny)
