He was in a HBO film that really showed how bad he is. And his voice is terrible for Smaug. I meant my comment before not as a compliment. He sounds fake and digital.
I also think the actress they got for Blooms love interest looks too much like Cate w reddish hair. Bad choice.
I wish they would show Beorn.

You can't tell it's him any ways Ry, because it has been messed with for sure. I've seen the back of his head (Beorn) somewhere's ... he has a huge long mohawk type hair style ... v.cool.
Which movie? Ha ha ! You can't call someone out and not tell me what he was in?

Cumberbatch is amazing. You don't even need to see him, his voice is enough :faints:. And Ry is right, so weird that Legolas' dad does look so young

I am probably the only person who dislikes Cumberbun.
No, that guy's creepy as hell. I can't fathom what would possibly be attractive about him. The thought of him makes me want to hurl. I didn't know who he was for the longest time, and I'm sorry I found out.

Whether you fancy him or not ... he is a fantastic actor, and a lovely person in real life. I for one am a CumberBitch!

Uhm no. Armitage is really bad in this. But mostly because all of his scenes consist of him walking in slo-mo with the wind blowing in his hair towards imminent danger. Because somehow in Peter Jackson's mind this equals drama.
I am so overloading on the Hobbit on HBO right now, too, Lady Black It's on redial between the Tigers' games. Advertisement? Hobbits! Killi, Filli tripod

I am going to watch The Hobbit again when I receive my extended edition Blu Ray. And I'll probably rewatch the extended editions of LOTR on Blu Ray round about the same time.
Hobbitzes are coming!! http://www.geekosystem.com/hobbit-trilogy-names/

Am I the only one that thought the movie was "meh" and the second one is even more of a shrug. I have had no desire to rewatch the first one and this is from the guy that owns every single special edition of the original trilogy there is.

The new posters look sooooo bad. How much can you photoshop someone, really? Nobody even looks like themselves anymore. And what is it with this new rusty, plasticky filter that everyone's using lately, it looks unbelievably cheap.

You're not. I thought it was really, really bad. But since I'm watching Downton Abbey, might as well watch the second one as well.
I truly can't decide whether the second one will be worth my time. I was disappointed in the first, particularly the over-reliance on CGI. If one of my friends really wants to go, I won't say no, but I don't think I'll go out of my way.
My only problem with The Hobbit was PJ's decision to use so much CGI. I think it's because Peter is so insistent on using those damn 48fps cameras and pratical effects don't look as good through those lens. Aside from that I had a blast.
I have not seen the 48fps version, so I can't weigh in how it affected the movie. I have seen other things in 48fps and I am not a fan. All my own work I do at 24fps...but that's just me.

Well Avatar will be 99% CGI, since most human characters will be gone, no need to film anything.
I think that was the problem with the Hobbit, mixing CGI elements with live elements made it seem odd and disjointed. But I think framespeed, like the use of other things like lighting, color and film over video will be an aesthetic choice of the director.

Nope. Felt the writing for the Hobbit movie was improved and captured the childlike essence of the story better than they did with the LotR. I would have preferred more songs however.

48fps was like being fucked in the eyeballs. So if you enjoy that kind of thing it's the way to go. Things shot for tv are mostly in 48 (or higher) fps (like the tv-news yes) and that's why they also call it the soapopera effect, Peter Jackson doesn't understand people want to see film and not a Hobbit TV-movie. Some people think it's heaven because it enhances the 3D and makes for better panning scenes (this is actually true, a lot of great naturedocumentaries look so stunning because of the higher framerate). Fuck 3D and death to those people who think it should be applied to everything.
