Ok, so the Dragon Horn that Euron claimed to have found in the ruins of Valyria has these words written in valyrian glyphs:
"I am Dragonbinder, No Mortal man should sound me and live, Blood for Fire, Fire for Blood".
This got me thinking. Will this turn out to be a prophecy made possible through a simple loophole, a la Macbeth, Lord of The Rings etc? Can a woman sound the horn and live? Assuming the horn actually works and it does bind dragons to its master's will. Because if this is true, the most likely candidate would be...Dany? But why would she need to bind dragons to her will, she already managed to tame Drogon, who was the fiercest.
How does one become the master of the horn? Through murder (the "blood" part)? And why of why would Euron give such a powerful weapon to Victarion? Euron is batshit crazy, but he's not an idiot. Where the fuck is he anyway? We know of iron men raiding the Reach, but are we sure Euron is with them? These chapters puzzled me to no end.
A good reach, I hope we learn more to piece this together. I'm not sure if this represents a Prophecy though, but we can continue to speculate about it the significance of those words.
Perhaps, we may get lucky with key excerpts released from book 6 ( The Winds of War ). Moqurro, is an interesting guy/ Rh'llor priest that we need a couple of good chapters on . I hope GRRM doesn't cheat us with a teaser chapter ( in book 6 ), he could shed some light on the subject and the Valyrian history as well. Victarrion is just a lucky dipshit, and Euron is too self serving to end up anywhere for long.
No matter whom wields it, Dragonbinder is a link to ancient Valyria's past, and those besides the Targaryeons , that tamed the dragon kind.
This is a great Speculation Thread Macha. You've been burning the candle again.
That was my initial reaction, a woman (Melisandre? Ahsa? Arya?) will sound the horn. Or something not living, mayhaps? Some Other/Wight, Coldhands type being? Hopefully, we will see.

The horn Dragonbinder was found in the ruins of Valyria........"No mortal man shall sound me and live".. The people of Valria were mortal, so what use would the horn be to them. No, it is most likely a mortal woman that will be able to sound it, as you say Macha. This got me thinking about why such a horn would be created in the first place. Perhaps some enemy of Valyria made and empowered it to turn the dragons against their masters, but it was taken from its creators before it could be used. And stored in some deep vault. But if this is true why not simply destroy it . Also can a warg be classified as mortal? The horn would come in handy for J. If certain other theories prove correct.
Yes, the Horn is very interesting. Hopefully GRRM will address the issue in the remaining books, or in the Compendium.
Yet, I remember the Horn of Joramun ( sp? ), held by the Wildlings. I got really excited about that that one, only
to learn of it being destroyed in ADWD, somewhere in the chapters of Stannis's triumphant assault on the usurpers.
At least, I think it was, Tormund had me rethinking this later on, in his talks with Jon.
Wargs are indeed mortal, look what happened to Robb. If you can find it, check out the Topic of Wargs, and Greensight.
It premises the subject as depicted from ASOIAF books, but placed here among the Speculation threads.

Thank you, Two Feathers, I have said previously, it's a woman's horn to blow, IMO.

I've always thought that the horn was created at the same time the Valyrians tried their hand at dragon taming/ riding. Could have been created by any faction, really, the one that had dragons in their possession, or the one opposing them. I think it might have been useful for anyone who wanted to control a dragon without being its master. So I suspect it was too valuable to be destroyed. Perhaps that wasn't even the only horn in Valyria that could do that, but the only one found after the Doom.
Wildseed - many people are speculating that the old horn that Sam found along with the obisidian daggers is in fact the horn of Joramun, and I personally think that fits like a glove. I have no idea how Sam could use it now at the Citadel, though.
I haven't reviewed ADWD since the 1st read, but I don't recall the horn found among the DragonGlass, by Samwell. I really don't see the connection of the DragonBinder Myth but it sure is interesting, I hope we receive a few more clues. Samwell's journey to the Citadel and his acquaintances will give us much to ponder. Since Pate and the maester exhibit vast knowledge, that maester Aemon hinted at, we're likely attending another tangent thought up by GRRRM. Too bad we were only fed a morsel of a clue ( the citadel factor ), all that's left is pure speculation. I hate grasping the at air, it's akin to fighting imaginary cobwebs while onlookers point at you.
What if the glyphs have not been interpreted correctly.? We know that fire cannot harm a dragon, as Dany likes to demonstrate. The poor dude who sounded Eurons dragon horn at the Kings moot died cause his lungs were burnt to a crisp. So, you see where I am going with this......... Could it be that only a pure blood Targaryen, with the fire proof body can sound the horn? Male or female , does not matter. So really Dany is the only Targ we know of till now that could sound the horn, which is just as well as she happens to own three dragons that need a good binding.
That would be indeed plausible, but I seem to remember GRRM explicitly stating that Dany not getting burned when the dragons were hatched was a one time event, and that she is not actually immune to fire. Beginner's luck? She gets her hands slightly burned in ADwD in the arena, I think. Need to re-check that.
She was spared from the flames because her sacrifice was not needed, she had already paid for the dragons with the life of a blood Maegi. So yeah, poor Viserys.

Ok, so Grrm says that Dany is not actually fire proof. .... What if there was a spell that could be spoken to protect the horn blower from crispy lung syndrome. ( He says , clutching at straws. ) Surely it would have been known by Targaryens of old. Aegon the Conqueror had to call his dragons some how ..... right? Just for fun, the proof is here ,in this recently discovered ancient Westerosi pictograph.....
You did that, TF? What an awesome, awesome drawing! You're right, especially if we're talking about multiple horns. But maybe they had alternate taming/calling methods? I don't know, this puzzles me as well. And just for the sake of speculating, why was that horn found by Euron god knows where? If the Targaryens had such a horn, you'd imagine they would have passed it on, same as with an ancestral sword, even after the dragons had died? Maybe that horn was designed by someone opposing them, as a means of neutralizing their most dangerous weapon?
"I´d not prolongued the chewing up, Doc. Nor the being spat out. Not go out a cunt. It´s the dispatch I find inglorious. The whole delusory fucking self importance.". Al Swedgin ;).
Euron said he sailed to the ruins of Valyria.... Yet, it is said that the seas still boil around its coast. He probably lied, so he could have found the horn anywhere. I know what you are saying about the horn being used as a weapon against dragons, and all is still possible. Could it be that Varys hid the Targaryen dragon horn somewhere when he switched the boys on Dragonstone, before Gregor etc ganed access? Who knows?
“Fear is a strange soil. It grows obedience like corn, which grow in straight lines to make weeding easier. But sometimes it grows the potatoes of defiance, which flourish underground.”
So, does show Euron have the horn or not? Sam has a horn from a previous season, although we haven't seen it since. There is talk of a horn in the crypt as well. What say you, peeps?

I think the horn is too late to bring into the game now, isnt it? Maybe, depends how the season ends, it could still show up. But the horn of winter never came into play either.
