Saw it recently too. It had a fantastic start, but I wasn't a big fan of the second half of the movie. The script felt a bit weak. If they wanted to make it about the boys, or about the dads and their sons, they should have developed Gosling's and Cooper's characters at the same time, because the way they did it it felt like the second half of the movie came out of nowhere. But yeah, the acting and directing was fantastic.

I felt Cooper's arc could have been beefed up a bit more, I was expecting some repercussions for snitching on Ray Liotta's character.

I just watched the Paperboy, it's awful in every aspect of moviemaking and is a masterclass in how not to make a movie. Keep this movie under your radar unless, like me, you like to watch a clusterfuck of a movie and see John Cusack jizz in his pants.

Is it true that Nicole Kidman pisses on Zac Effron?

I have not seen it. I'm going to make sure it's on my Netlix list now.

EDIT: It's not yet available on DVD.

freakout I saw this last week. I think I liked it, though I can't really say.

One thing I do know tho is that Ryan Gosling really needs to get back to playing other types of parts.

I didn't hate it nor did I love it. It's probably way too arthouse for me, I am an unabashed popcorn fan but I am willing to go outside my comfort zone every now and then.  I do like Nicolas Winding Refn's style, I adored Drive and I even liked Bronson but that was probaly mostly because of Hardy's outstanding performance.

It was nice to see Kristen Scott Thomas playing such a vicious character, that certainly made it worth the watch. But yeah, Gosling's silent brooding shtick is getting pretty stale now.

Was bored and casually clicked on "Chernobyl Diaries" on Netflix and it was a pretty nice little horror movie.
Maybe because I have seen many horror flicks, I appreciate it when they break convention and do things like:

- Takes it's time
- Uses no jump scares
- Uses little gore

Good stuff!

THISTHISTHISTHIS. I haven't seen this movie but godeffindamnit, I'm so sick of this. This was my main problem with The Conjuring. Enough with the jump scares! It's such a cheap, infurianting trick.

Not sure where to post this but I guess this animations are under the radar, a pitty because this one it´s beautiful. I don´t appreciate analogies that much because they are usually pretty simple but in this case I didn´t care. Such beautiful drawings, you love them all at the very first moment. Many paintors you can recognize in some of the characters (Modigliani, Gauguin, Picasso).

Saw it, loved it.

Just remembered a movie I saw some time ago, Mary and Max. The clay-animations, the story, the soundtrack, all brilliant:

I just watched this movie "The spectacular now" . It feels so good to find this kind of movie. Really small budget, simple, discrete, realistic, sober (not in the "non drunk" sense tho), sensitive. I think this is the cinema you can call great now, for me. After all the great old directors, (there´s no more great ones for me now, true), all the great scripts, all the great literature, there´s not much to tell but this stories. This movie made me feel happy about cinema when cinema makes me puke most of the time lately. Is not a happy movie tho and gets a bit soft at the end to be honest, but I don`t mind, it´s ok, should be a place for soft things too. Not sure if I know this director, James Ponsoldt, a young guy. The screenwriters are so good. Simple and realistic dialogues. You get to know the characters, they don`t reveal to you inmediately, you don`t know who they are at the first 10  minutes, like all the shitty scripts recipes tells you. Great acting these two kids. Some actors from The Wire, some from Breaking Bad you can recognize, noone very famous. Jennifer Jason Leigh is in there with a small role. In love with this movie, completely. Gives me some kind of hope about cinema. Is not all a big disgusting circus. It´s about two teens (and some other stuff) but don`t be afraid, is not at all similar to anything you have seen in this kind of stories. So really really nice smile

wut about animations then? Did I say something about Miyazaki already in this thread? too lazy to look. I love his movies. For us, for kids. I´m re-watching them all. Saw My neighbor Totoro this morning... wut a beauty. The ones with kids here should try itsmile. You can find them dubbed into english now if you don`t want english subs or don`t like japanese language.

ok this is not a greeeat movie, but i enjoyed it: The words. It got such an absolute bashing by the critics that it went straight to netflix, never saw a cinema around here, but even though it can be improved, I think it deserves better. True, I had zero expectations for it, but i was pleasantly surprised. Plus Jeremy Irons was fantastic in it.

"The Worlds End"

It was not released in theaters here, so I missed it.
Managed to snag it last night, so much fun.
I have always been of fan of the Pegg/Wright/Frost collaborations.

Oh and this:

I saw this tonight. Lordy, this is directorial hubris if you ever saw some. But damnit I love this director (including his hubris). I'll recommend his original Pusher movies again, less hubris and more Mikkelsen:

Question remains after this movie: if Scott Thomas was your mother, would you still do her?

Honorable mention in this thread for Michael Kohlhaas, which is not a perfect movie, but it's quiet and intense, and beautifully shot. And apart from having M. Mikkelsen which, let's face it, it's always a plus, the movie features one of the most beautiful lines I have heard in a while.  "I'd drink his tenderness out of a pig trough." Ugh, sold right there.

yusss, terribly, I guess he was playing the Elector of Brandenburg and that´s a big part in the book? But those last words at the end... his face

The cinematography it´s amazing... the background noises!!! the flies... you heard that? such a good atmosphere, you can smell death everywhere but yes, not perfect, there´s holes in the story, good characters that just vanished. I enjoyed it very much tho. Very surprised to see Sergi Lopez although I saw him many times in french movies. Weird to hear catalán. Multi national co production I guess.

And how many languages Mads can speak eh?
