Script is bad, is like the movie doesn´t have a purpose but it does and it´s called Sam Shepard. That man fills the screen with goodness, the perfect role for him and when he buys the charango and stars singing "Sam Hall" is just epic. I`ll grab some horse and go to the center of my town and start singing that awesome song to some I know.
The man, the music and Bolivian´s landscapes made the movie. Oh wait, Stephen Rea was very funny too. Yes, there´s a scene between him and Shepard where they didn´t do much but just see them there is good fun.
I see now that also Johnny Cash sang this song. Amazing.
The title of thismovieshould have been Beautiful men but no, really, Sam Shepard, Eduardo Noriega and Jaime Lannister.

you lazy ass, you can resize the pic! But yes, this movie is amazing, it has it all. Why is it under the radar it´s a mistery. Hardy is great but also the voices, great really. And the script. All of it. The music! Just one thing was weird. Hardy´s accent, maybe Al or Yvy or Cosca can say what that is.

Just watched The trip and but it´s a strange kind of laughter, like private, idk how to call it. In fact I laughed at silly things, their imitations, the banter and the quarrels happening everywhere, that was lovely and very funny.
Has more than a couple of great moments: when they´re delivering Henry V lines inside the car, the sonar pulse, the Abba´s song , the speech at the abbey. Very good.
Food was so snob lol, forget it and those annoying noises while eating, my neurosis went to heaven and back. Close those fucking traps to chew, people.
Now I have to watch the new one: The trip to Italy

So, Calvary, yay. Not a comedy like The guard. Black humor tho, here and there. Mc Donagh is another misanthrope not Nick Pizzolatto (TD) style tho... I think. How many ways to hate human kind are?
Father Lavelle fucking hates people and he doesn´t trust us, not a wee bit. Loved it
So many wonderfully over the top characters. Little Leo just one of them Oh, Milo. There´s many.
"You seem agitated" must be one of the best one liners I heard. You can say many things about Brendan Gleeson but you can´t say that.
Littlefinger is there! lol Aidan Gillen, even his irish accent is weird. Trolilol, he can´t lose LF for some reason. I miss his Carcetti really.
- "Your church is on fire"
- "Fuck off, I`m not in the mood".
I wonder if Mc Donagh also writes the dialogues.
Sartre said "El infierno son los otros" ( Idk how to translate this) and this movie is saying it all the time. They are devils tho... I guess we all are Sowy Cary. I wonder if you´d like this movie. Is not your religion I know but you might enjoy how stupid the bishop and the other priest are (well, not just that).
This is terrible spoiler but have to share it
Spoiler
Ugh Bruno and Brendan Gleeson crying
hahahaah Chuskita, the romanians always get some with this director!
Some shots when he´s on the phone with his daughter, so pretty and
One last thing that surprised me very very much. Song at the end is a very very argentinian "vidala", (music from my country´s northern provinces), wrote by Rolando Valladares. Vidalas are very sad btw, natives inca-descendent music probably, not entirely sure and too lazy to check now.

Finally managed to see Calvary this weekend. Such a beautiful film. I loved it even before the ending but damn... the last 5 minutes killed me.
Watched Blackthorn on Netflix a while back. I thought it bad myself but apparently people liked it. It had 4 stars when I saw it. That being said I'll probably always watch a Sam Shepard movie especially a Western. I thoroughly enjoyed though NWC for a bit there btw.
One of the best movies I ever saw, had me on the edge of my seat from the first to last second.

Can't remember if I already wrote about this in another thread buuuuuuut this. movie. It's soooo goood I want to eat it for dessert. The voices were such a nice surprise, I couldn't place any of the actors until the credits rolled. Beautiful cinematography, and Hardy kills every second of it. The accent threw me off too, I read it's Welsh? LOL, at first I thought it was some east-european scrambled accent that made zero sense to me.
Just one question about the ending, did I get it right? I was too tired and my brain wasn't working, but
Spoiler
he drove back, didn't he? Away from the hospital, I mean.

I don´t remember but I think he did.
I watched this movie Pride, about the gay Pride parades in England in the 80´s, when they support the miners fighting againts Thatcher. I thought the movie was simple and nice but also quite sappy. Great actors tho. Bill Nighy is so good I can´t even start talking about him. He´s gold.
I´d love to know more about this from people who really knows or remembers.

If you didn't know there is a Japanese remake of Unforgiven, you know now. And because you do, you have to watch it. Every shot is a painting, it's freaking GORGEOUS. And the music! Don't get me started on that. I'm not sober enough to praise this movie. I just want to sit in a corner, weep and worship the whole crew that made this gem.
I read some time ago it was exactly the same as the yank version, but I will put it on my list! Tonight I watched The Drop, and my Tom Hardy crush is still going strong.

It is very similar, so much that I was a bit put off at first, BUT there are some very interesting implications because they used characters that are Ainu (of which I knew nothing about, I read a bit about it after), and that gave a much deeper meaning to what it means to kill another, especially if they are Japanese - there is a lot of history and bad blood between them. And the fact that the main character was a samurai also changed the dynamic a bit and took the material to a deeper level.

All sounds very good and interesting and all but just tell the truth Chuskita, it´s Ken Watanabe (I downloaded yesterday )

Oh no, Macha! Now that I know I must needs have it. Or see it. I do agree. Ken Watanabe I must have seen the Unforgiven 15 times by now. I'm owner of many Clint Eastwood movies and I'm not ashamed.

+1 and Rocco! He actually named the doggie after San Roque (Saint Rocco, he sees the statue at the church), patron saint of pilgrims, always represented with a doggie and there´s a spanish tradition of "calling" him to protect you when you find an agressive doggie, it´s very stupid: "San Roque, San Roque, que este perro no me toque" ("St Rocco, St rocco, may this dog do not touch me" or something like. I think it´s the patron of my hometown too because there´s a little chapel dedicated to him. you wondering why I know all this? because hisname dayisAugust 16th, my bd.
Very good and very different pair these two, Hardy and Gandolfini. Good movie.

Yes, this movie is amazing, i went into it completely unaware, just spotted it on Popcorn Time (if you don't have it, install btw) and it was great.
But i figured since y'all a bunch of hipsters you would've probably watched it too
About the spoiler, seriously? I missed that one completely.

I am proud He is a talented director and actor. (that was just for all the times someone told me he's a Republican asshole who supported Mitt Romney and I should be ashamed for buying his movies)

I finally saw Calvary. It really is a little gem of a movie. I found the philosophical parts perfectly balanced with the irony and humorous scenes and with the drama/crime portion. Was firmly convinced that the whole parish was messing with the priest there at the end. They probably were.
PS. Aiden Gillen's character- what a creepy doc! (loved it)
old news, we already know your favorite ginger is Japie.

Such a crazy, eccentric movie based on real life, of course. Didn´t know about those people tho. The acting is really great. These guys I bet you saw in other movies. Idk, maybe. Or tv shows. I´ve seen them before.
In real life I would probably hate these people but I loved them in the movie so someone did a good job there. Loved the characters and the relationship and enjoyed the movie very much. Has some great moments of all kind, drama, comedy, absurd, anger.
Loving these new vikings, actors and directors. Some fresh air.
Also watched The gambler. Had great expectations, idk why but is not great, just good fun I guess.

Saw "The Babadook" an Australian horror film, fantastic, best horror film of the year.
I cracked up when I finally saw "Zero Dark Thirty", Mark Strong and Stephen Dillane had a scene together, when I first read "A Clash Of Kings" I imagined Mark Strong as Stannis, and then Dillane got cast...seeing them together on screen kinda messed with my brain!
Great movie too BTW

I see I was a bit drunk when I posted about The Drop, not that I have lot more to say but watched again and is not something I do frequently, most of all with movies I just watched but idk, there was something about this movie, not just Tom Hardy and the awesome pair with Gandolfini, there´s little moments in this movie I wanted to see again. Dialogues are used like weapons, you don`t see that much violence but violence is really present, all the time. The menace.
These two characters, Eric Deeds and Detective Torres, (awesome awesome John Ortiz, I love this actor so much, those of you who watched Luck will remember Turo Escalante), are great characters, they define and frame the movie perfectly as perfect secondary characteres should do. Noomi Rapace is good too, a quiet character but you can tell there´s something. Well, you can tell there´s something hidden in every character in this movie. Maybe the ending was a bit lazy but you know, movies can go and go and go just because you love them.
You might say this movie is not pretty, no wonderful landscapes, not a very memorable cinematography or scenery but it´s a goddamn really good very cinematographic (this is not the word in english, I know, but idk which one you use), fucking proper goddamn good script with great dialogues and no blah blah.
I wasn´t clear the first time. I love this movie.

I´m all about danish movies lately. Watched this one Kapringen, last week I think. Not lotsa danish people out there so you can see the same faces here and there.
I wish I could post when I finish watching a movie because I don`t remember much later. But I do remember some about this one. Loved the beginning and the middle, loved all the layers this movie has and how graceful can be while is not telling a gentle story. Loved the characters and loved the actors (they are amazing!) and the simplicity and the silence, because despite I don`t like all the Dogma snob shit, I have to recognize that I enjoy the silence very much. I guess because I´m horrible at paying attention to soundtracks.
Boy, I hated the ending. It didn´t ruin the whole movie for me but was close. I mostly don´t care much about endings because they are truly hard and most endings suck and if they don´t is because you have to do the work. I mean, the ending is ok despite some problems, (like why the fuck the families are so cool with the whole situation?) but there´s a fucking horrible punch at the end, completely innecesary and can make you hate the movie, it ruined the script somehow. The director was telling another story and suddenly a Hollywood punch in the stomach to make you blame just one person
Spoiler
(a pirate of course)
. Lindholm managed to avoid the meeting between the two main characters because LAZY, (and I would have loved to see it), but he goes and kick you in the butt with that shit!
If you looking for an optimistic or happy movie, forget about it, this is not your cup of tea. I think he´s basically saying we are aliens for eachother and that´s too many different worlds in this world and that we are not getting better. There´s a line that says a lot "Time means nothing to this people". I was all ok and happy () with that till that fucking punch. What for if not to make you hate? Fuck u Lindholm, will think twice before watching your movies in the future.
But! so many brilliant little scenes. I rated 7 (a lot for me) just because the bad punch. I was all prepared for a 9 though.

I know it is the classical overdone cliche damned bad hero who got out for a woman that goes back in the underworld for revenge (see The Unforgiven and many many others) but I am a sucker for those. Alfie Allen is good as the classic inept, spoiled child of the head of a mafia chief and Al Swearengen is still him. This time he's not a saloon and whorehouse owner but a hotel one. He's still the same shaker and mover though. What else? The dog. Both of the the cutest things one can see. I hated Theon when he killed Daisy. HATED HIM.
Wonder if the Russian accent was good enough. Maybe Ry can shed a light on that one Next on my list to see is The Drop.

spoilers in a thread called Under the radar movies? sounds a bit like a contradiction to me. I´m pretty sure I´m never careful here with spoilers and you know, TW used pretty big letters to say she watched John Wick at the beginning of her post, so why you kept reading?
I`m noone to say, maybe Don or Cary or Macha can answer this but this forum is a GoT forum so I´d think spoilers should apply only to GoT spoilers. But this is me, I don`t care for spoilers at all.

lol i'm not the one trowing a temper tantrum and storming out
I watched the movie too and i loved it, but i think when you're commenting a movie in a public forum like this you have to imply that you're talking to people who haven't watched it and are interested in watching, so it's not about no spoilers at all, but talking about the movie without revealing anything major.
It's good to let people know the dog dies so they can mentally prepare for it! John Wick was aaaawesome, kill'em all, kill frenzy!! Poof poof poof, die die die, stab stab stab.
THE DOG DIES PEOPLE, IT'S THE ENTIRE PREMISE OF THE MOVIE.
Saw this little gem named Wadjda, awesome movie about a Saudi girl and her obsession with a bike. Gives a nice different perspective of the Arabic world other then any other movie you will see.
Ugh these two actors, I have a weak spot for both of them. Movie is called Enough Said. Loved it.
I know we used to have a thread for winter/summer movies. I can't find the darn thing! Anyway, I saw this super little gem of a movie Locke with Tom Hardy last night. Soo good. The whole concept (action takes place in 1.5 hrs during a car drive) would make you thing that it will be boring and stale but the writing, the story and the acting was quite beautiful. Two thumbs up, Roger Ebert style. I think he would have liked this one.
EDIT: BECAUSE I AM AN IDIOT! I see people on this thread have already discovered it I agree, one of the best movies I've seen this year.
