I have shied away from cop shows for a long while now. The first one in quite some years was TD last year. This is something refreshing for me and it has potential. I have not seen Dominic West on anything! So that's also new.
Lol. Y'all sound like the NY Times giving GoT negatives because its fantasy. Bottom line: The Wire has writing, directing, acting that are all superior. Who cares the genre?

True to my nature, I had ample time between the hours of 2 am and 3 am to watch the third ep. I think it is filmed quite superb. Very different than what I'm used to. Since this is a no spoiler thread, I won't go into details but: W.T.F?! IS THE POLACK NAMED GUY FOR REAL?! Holy crap, the incompetence in ep 2. :AllTheFacePalms: I wish I had the Pickard smiley. I hope he's not going to get Kima or McNultty killed!
The boy redeems itself! At least he didn't get anyone killed. Also: how can Michael K. Williams be soooo good?! The man is gold wherever I see him. I hope they don't kill Omar too soon. I liked him BE and I thought they didn't use him enough.
This drunk cop talk was very special Haven't laugh so much watching a cop show in a long time.
McNulty: You know why I respect you so much, Bunk? It's not 'cause you're good police.
Bunk: 'Cause, you know, fuck that, right? Fuck that, yeah.
McNulty: It's not 'cause when I came to Homicide, you taught me all kinds cool shit about. I don't know, whatever.
Bunk: Whatever.
McNulty: It's 'cause when it came time for you to fuck me you were very gentle.
Bunk: Damn right.
McNulty: See, 'cause you could've hauled me out of the garage and just bent me over the hood of a radio car. But no, you were very gentle.
Bunk: I knew it was your first time. I wanted to make that shit special.
McNulty: It was, man. It fucking was.
I'm having a blast with this series. McNulty having his sons do the follow and tag Stringer Bell in the market he's just insane. He lost his kids because of that for an hour. The guy is nuts. I would have had a heart attack just thinking about it. That is why he's not having the kids in the divorce!!! Also, I like judge Phelan. I am not sure what relationship he has with Jimmy but there has to be some history there. The guy backs McNulty up at every step with the wire tap investigation. And finally Michael K. Williams :applause: every scene. EVERY SCENE is awesome when he's in it. I may have to hunt down every other work he has. I knew he's a genius in BE but seriously, the man is just that good. I think I'm repeating myself but I don't care.
I'm so thrilled you're loving The Wire as much as I did! Absolutely brilliant series. Genius script writing. Incredible acting. You're making me want to watch it all again. Maybe after TD2...
Basi, I love it. I also have little time now with the summer setting in. But it just makes me more excited about seeing another ep For today best line: "You follow drugs you get drug addicts and drug dealers. But you start to follow the money and you don't know where the fuck it's going to take you!" I totally agree.
I can't believe how different was the second season. Finished it right now and it's just so depressingly real. For lack of better description. I mean about the unions and how it works. And they concentrated so much on that and what the hell, I don't even know who the Greek was and his Spiros guy who's real name we never found out. Highlights: Omar and Brother Muzone. I can't believe Stringer and what he did. Wonder if that will come back to bite his ass. Will Avon ever find out?! And Proposition Joe in the low rises!
Guardian called the the "bravest and most radical Wire storyline"!!! I google searched it Carcetti is sooo dreamy. Balsy too going by the first ep from season 3 I saw last night.
I know! Jimmy was alway a "fuck the bosses" guy. Lester should know him by now. McNulty is not gonna change just because Daniels is in charge! Also where is my Aidan?!
Watching. Season 1 is good. My favorite scenes so far are when Bunk and McKnulty study the old crimescens and keep saying "fuck" a thousand times and when Dee and Preston (?) talk about chess
Jent, I loved first season! Bunk and McNultty are some kind of team. I am also a fan of the smart professor detective and hated Prez for a bit. Kima rocks too. I stopped at the last season because I went in my summer vacation but I plan to see it one of these days.
3 is my fav probably. Its hard to say because they are all really good. 2 was my least fav upon first watch. Then i watched it again and absolutely loved it. I think I was thrown off from the shift from drugs to corruption.
Frank Sobotka lives!!!!

While it is the best I've seen in the genre, I guess I can just never go gaga over a cop show. I guess it is a testament to how good it is that I enjoyed it, but still...
Anyway, while I haven't read the whole thread, I've noticed no one has mentioned season 4 in the last page or two. That was my favorite seaon.

Season 3 was very good and had the best episode for me but my favorite is also season 4. And Macha´s too if I´m not mistaken.

Season 4 had too much of the school, if I am not mistaken. And far too much of the Pollack ex cop. Pleb, someting. I enjoyed it, but...not as much as 1-3.
Season 5 w the news team was probably my least fav.

I think it was because I wasnt prepared for a shift in story line to Union corruption. And I could not stand Ziggy and his penis obsession. I know, seems like the type of character I would LOVE :)

Season 2 was fucking amazing. Can't see how you didn't like it.
You know what, looking back I think Season 2 was the one that impressed on me the most. I cannot explain why to me that was so real. Probably the unions and the bribing stuff. I also love the guy who played Sobotka. I can't remember what I've seen him in before but I know I did. Must look.

I did like all seasons. Can't pick one really.
I just realized that Frank Sobotka...who I found repulsive is Chris Bauer who portrayed Sheriff Andy Bellefleur on True Blood, who I actually found quite attractive! Amazing what a decent haircut and workout will do.
