Do you have any? Show them! Why did you get them and what do they mean? I don't have yet, but plan on getting some, so I need advice. I want to get an owl, for starters. I'll post the design I'm thinking of soon.

It all sounds interesting and inspirational. I'm thinking something small, on my shoulder, neck or foot, not neccesarily colour, but indidcation of movement, like an owl taking flight, is important. Haven't yet decided realistic or stylistic or abstract yet.

Same here, Mags. But If I get one, it'll have to be somewhere on my back. That way, I'll never see it, never grow bored with it, never regret having it done. I like this one but I'm not so sure about those flowers. They'll look like mosquito bites.

I agree, it might now be on one of my shoulder blades. A tribal tattoo shop opened closeby. I saw someone with new tattoos from them, it looks pretty amazing. And the tree looks absolutely stunning. I was thinking now maybe when I get my Masters degree in ancient cultural history, as the owl is Athena's sygil of wisdom. So it will be to commemorate that.

I have a tribal-ish rose on my back between my shoulder blades, about 6" long. The flower is red and the stem/thorns are back. It is from the books Kushiel's Dart. It is the mark that the protagonist chooses when she is essentially released from slavery. She has, what you could call, a high tolerance for pain and amazing amount of grace and strength. The phrase she is known for is "That which yields is not always weak".

Depending on how the series finishes out I am planning to get a fairly good sized three-headed red/black dragon (Team Targaryen!) on my back because I love Daenerys' character. She makes plenty of mistakes but tries her best to learn from them, which is all any of us can do, right?

I'm on the laptop now but If I can dig up a pic I'll edit this post and add it in.

This is my long desired Capricorn Goat tattoo on my left shin.  I always wanted a Capricorn goat but couldn't find any patterns that didn't look stylized, simplistic, or Satanic.  Finally found this one recently and it was perfect.  We chose the colors (Tattoo Boy and me) to give it kind of a globe (Earth) feel.
