Tir - remind me what happened to
Spoiler
Burn Gorman in S1, I forgot. I loooved the whole "revert to Brightsone" thing, but I forgot how was he involved? I just remember freaking out when Clarence was reveiled, although I do remember suspecting him at one point.
Season 1 of The Hour was one of the finest TV shows I've ever seen. Awesome pace. Thrilling, engaging, hardly any fillers, excelently casted... It blew my mind.
Unfortunately I cannot say of season 2.

I loved that too... I think that bit of mystery-secrecy was missed on S2. I suspected Bun Gorman all along, but I thought he would be like "the" baddie, ifkwim. Anyhoo... His ending was THE only letdown I had on S1. I mean, you're a SPY. A frigging SPY. Undercover spy. People are dropping like flies. And you just say, "oh, you got me. fine. now go and write a nice exposé about me. enjoy!" WTF? Dont you fear for your life? Dont you plea for time so that you can run away from the country at the very least? He was way to casual about being unmasked.

Overall, S1 was definitely much better constructed, story-wise. It was gripping, and it focused on what the British do best - a bit of mystery, a bit of a spy-thriller, and on top of that it had a great love triangle (bleh, I kinda hate that phrase). Me, on the contrary, I was more engaged in S2 - despite it being weaker overall - because they focused on the characters more. Marnie made a huge impression, Hector began as an uber-douche but developed greatly towards the end. Randall was a fantastc addition filling Clarence's shoes, and his scenes with Liz had incredible acting. Oh that scene where he thrashes his office, kill me now. Then there were characters like Laurie, which were so well written that by the end I was terribly conflicted over him and his suicide. Even Albert (was that his name? the ginger) had a nice development in the last episode. S2 lacked tension, yes, and maybe it forced Freddie and Bel too much from the very beginning. That could have used some subtlety. But what happened in the last episode came as such a shocker for me, that I stood there thinking "no way. no way, they're really going for it. they're killing him!" And of course that if S3 gets made he'll live, but in those minutes I was really wondering. And no matter how sappy it might have been, I almost teared up when she was reading his letter and running down the stairs. Because I spent all of S2 saying "just tell us about those fucking letters already!!!"
Oh and one thing that The Hour does extremely well is "The Hour" itself. Loved the interviews in both seasons, and the social commentary in the second. I think they should do more of those in S3, if it gets the green light. Hopefully, with that Golden Globe nomination...
I´m liking this very much and I´m not afraid of Whishaw anymore (whoever saw The Perfum will understand).
That one shot when they introduce Héctor was so good. Just one shot who says it all: full "Dirty Dick", simple, no misteries. But then you see him get better and complicated. The fact that they could be friends (with Freddy) is pretty interesting. Goody.
Some good lines and little scenes. When Freddie can´t stop talking bs and Héctor says showing some wit: "God, you´re a snob".
Whishaw´s character could be annoying sometimes not that I don´t like that but shut up for a moment.
Loving the TV sets and old cameras, the writing, directing, cinematography and acting. I don´t like R. Garay but she seems good here. Talisa cracks me up.

ok, finished with season 1. As you already saw I liked episode 1 very much but then I was like "I like this, I really like this, I can keep watching" but I wasn´t anxious or wanted to eat the entire first season in one day... and then EPISODE 5 wow, I loved it, there wasn´t just one single shot to waste, every scene was a pleasure and a joy to watch. Scene between Chaplin and Garai was golden but then all the others too. Characters growing and developing, great directing, acting, strong secondary characters, excellent writing. The best tv episode I saw. Genius. Episode 6 was great too but you know, final episode, more excitement, more resolution, you have to love it. The directing and the editing this time were gems. And Clarence... you secretive twisted little man.
Now, not now now, imma watch season 2 to catch up with you girls.

Hah! I remember suspecting him for a bit, after which he completely fell off my radar. I was surprised when it turned out it was him. And a little heartbroken. By then I already felt attached to their little crew and I kept thinking "noooo Clarence nooo, I'm gonna miss you so much." But his replacement in S2 was amazingly fun for me, so I guess it was worth my little pain.
I was the same, I only started loving the show at about episode 4 or 5. Heck, by the end of S1 I could have watched entire episodes of just them hanging out in that bar or theirs, drinking and smoking. The direction they went with Hector and Bel felt a bit meh at first, but when they made it "stop" working, then it started to feel interesting. Chaplin and Garai got that splendid scene together which really put Marnie on the map for me. And Hector, oh Hector's scenes are always delicios. There's something about the way they wrote his character, sometimes it feels a bit too much but then he wins you over again because you see that he's capable of much more than he thinks he is. And what I really liked about the show is that it gave me this feeling that all the actors "fit" with each other. I can't describe it but their interactions felt so natural that I could really reach that point where at times I was forgetting I was watching a TV show and that those people are not living and breathing in their little muddy-teal BBC hallways.
OT. You where afraid of Winshaw because of the parfume?
You gotta visit Grasse, maliti. I love that place. Remember when I saw the movie I though "how sick and twisted you gotta be to even come up with something like that?". But upon visiting Grasse for the first time, I understood. There's something about that place. And like Notre Dame was crying out for the Hunchback, Grasse was crying out for the perfumist.

It's where the story in Perfume takes place. It's the city most famous for its perfumes. I wanted to visit too when I was France, but never got the chance. Ugh, the descriptions in that novel are amazing. I don't know how Suskind did it, but you can actually smell the perfume on paper. The movie couldn't quite capture that entirely, but it was a decent effort, I'd say. In all honesty, Whishaw creeped me the fuck out in that one. I also remember thinking "I don't want to see you in my life ever again, GTFO". He was good, but I couldn't watch him. He's been forgiven in the meantime though.
oooh I remember those streets... but what if Grenouille is still there?

ok, watching season 2. I love love love Peter Capaldi. All of it, his character, his performance, the way he talks, his voice, everything. "Fine, I let you do that just because I´m curious". Who do you think he could play in GoT? There´s not enough Capaldi on tv I say.
The rest... will see. I´m in episode 3 so not much to say for now. Meh... the whole marriage thing... I don´t know. I did like that Marnie left Dirty Dick in jail for a day but then that conversation in the car... . Just kick his ass.
Oh this whole thing with the Cardinal Sforza now Commander whathisface was a bit obvious, right?
Another thing I don´t quite like is that Freddie is so quickly a genius... BUT they managed to make him more human when he´s alone in the studio rehearsing for the interview. He looked insecure and stupid. I liked that.
And yes please, more Lix Storm (anna Chancelor), I like her.

Peter Capaldi and Anna Chancelor fuking made this season. Sheer awesomness. They have some great scenes together, esopecially in the last two episodes. I had to rewind all of Capaldi's scenes just because his gestures and his walk racked me up.
About Cardinal Sforza , his best scenes come after the revealing of their relationship. It seemed they focused this season more on character and relationship development than mystery. Which made it weaker than season 1, and also better in some parts (Marnie and Hector, Lix and Randall, Hector and Laurie and so on)
yes well, fuck, you´re right. No idea. Maybe they will focus on the plot?

Tir! why you didn´t like season 2? Please do tell. I loved it! All those things I said when watching the first episodes have some meaning now. Yes, the whole Freddie´s marriage thing seemed just an excuse but it could be real you know. People get married for all kinds of stupid reasons you can´t believe. Sometimes you just so desperately need to get away from other situations that you do stupid things like getting married. They had to show like these two (Bel and Freddie) are horrible when they´re not together. And they would only hurt other people. But, yes, their relationship is not the most interesting. I loved all the others though, Randall and Héctor, Héctor and Marnie (she kick ass), Héctor and Cardinal Sforza. And the cherry on top of all were Randall and Lix. Wow. So beautiful. So good. What a treat. I love those two. So little dialogue, such a splendid acting. The way they move in the presence of the other person, the feelings kept inside... oh lordy, loved it. That´s how you write about war in this kind of show, without showing the war at all. Magnificent.
I think they kept the two seasons well balanced. It was a bit of everything. And I think the last episode was great, although I found episode 4 better. They needed the punishment, especially Freddie. You can´t talk that much about truth and loyalty and ethics and not get some of that in your own skin. Freddie needed some hard real life. Not death please, but some of that filth he claimed to fight.
Still thinking about Marnie and Héctor though. I mean, I liked what happened with them. I liked how Héctor and Marnie changed but something is bothering me, don´t know exactly what. Maybe it was the times you know, the good wife and all that. Not sure.
But yes, loved it! They better keep Peter Capaldi this time. What a class act that man is. "I lied, just go with it", a silly line but says a lot about him, the same goes for Lix line "You were a fantastic drunk".

Mmm, good point, this one. You know, I kept rewinding Randall and Lix's scenes just because of that - their movements. Well, sure, Peter Capaldi has such a funny walk, I would have done it anyway.
What I cannot see, for the life of me, is how will they handle the storyline if a third season gets commisioned. Hector and Marnie have patched up their marriage, and we can assume she'll have a baby - with that other man (R'hllor, I loved the way they handled that). Where to go from here? Lix and Randall also had some sort of closure. Obviously, Freddie will recover, and then - how will they keep viewers hooked? Oh well, I guess that's why they're writers.
i'll tell you later, maliti, dear. right now i'm just too sad. just read that the BBC cancelled it, so there won't be a third season.
