I'm a weird case, because so far the episodes written by Benioff & Wise have been my favorites. No, really. Bold choices, risky moves, I'm all for it. And I've said this time and again, but for me Alik Sakharov's episode in S2 was the best directed episode probably in the entire series (S3E3 is right up there too), so for me this can't get any better. Too bad it's just a mid-season episode, but yeah, like Yvy said, I expect some huge WTF moments. And I can't wait.
Episode 6 have been nice turning point episodes. The Golden Crown in season 1 was one that hooked me permanently to the show as it was so good. S2 E6 was also quite solid...looking forward.

Quick thoughts: Iwan Rheon is perfect. Poor Ros. Olenna and Tywin need a spin-off.
I though the ending was a little bit soft (and squishy and touchy-feely) but LOVED the olenna tywin stuff. I also love how they connected some of the dots around the BwB and Lord of Light and Mel. More cohesive thoughts as I have them!\
EDIT: What is the appropriate response to "Valar Mogoodness"?
Also loved the Valryian bonanza going down with the BwB!

Wow! Gendry was the big shocker to me! Use him instead of Edrick? Wish Arya had killed Malisandre when she had the chance. The Wall was awesome! that was epic. Poor Sansa, no more Loras. Theon, wow, had to turn away at a few of those scenes . Jaime's meat was bloody tough! Bolton can't hold his wine, stomach issues. Light weight. Loved the Blackfish! Too cool, and too funny! Robb was great in that scene to admit his Uncle has to pay for Robb's stupid errors. Episode was a win, valor magoodness.

Just gonna freak out a bit because Iwan Rheon killed me. Where did they find this guy??? That scene was fucking great. Karstark, lmao. How many seasons of flaying are we getting? They're moving pretty fast. I hope he gets to say who he is *exactly* in Ep. 9, minutes before the RW. BAM! Having Mel go to the BwP was a A+ choice. Great scenes, all of them. They gave her some of the Ghost of High Heart's lines! Or something similar. YES THANK YOU. Sorry Arya, but we are not friends. Thoros though, I like you. You and Mel should hang out more. Just lose the men in tights. I don't think Gendry will return to the BwB, they've made it clear how hurt he was they'd sell him like that. They could give Gendry pretty much any storyline from now on, since he doesn't do anything of importance in the future, except maybe meeting Brienne and hanging out with UnCat. Poor Bran gets the end of the stick again but hello! epileptic Jojen was a cool touch. We should have had that in the books. Meera holding him was touching. Bran, if you eat Jojen we're not friends either. Initially I thought the KL storyline was a bit of a blurb, but now that everything has fallen in place, I think it was more interesting than in the books. Watching Sansa & Loras's date was so awkwward I was laughing the whole time. "It's more of a brooch", LOL. Loras, I like you. Let's have you meet Jaime pronto. And I don't care what anyone says about Aidan Gillen, he sold that monologue. Maybe his best bit yet. It was the first time in a scene I actually rolled my eyes at Conleth Hill. Why do I have such a great time rooting for the bad guys? Well not rooting, but I love to see them getting their spotlight. Edmure, I like you so much it's not even funny. His "What?" face was Stannis-levels of awesomeness. And the Blackfish, LOL, he;s such a bully it's delicious. "The laws of my fist are about to compel you teeth." REALLY, D&D?
PS: Lame Lothar! I see you limpin'.
PPS: next week. I cannot.
PPPS: Wait, so will Arya and Mel meet again for realz (as in post-ADwD)? Do no want. I hope that was just a case of "when I return we'll talk about your mother." That little psycho killer better stay the hell away from my Mel. Only Patchface is allowed to kill my Mel.

Um... I just can't. Anyway, we figured out what was gonna happen with . As if there weren't enough demented shit going down the rest of the season. And would Gendry go back to the BWB after that? I'm wondering... He still doesn't know who he is.

When the fuck is something going to actually happen in this season? There are only four episodes left.

Have you been watching the wrong Tv show by mistake? Xena warrior princess maybe?
Good one, slow to start, ended with a bang and well...I hope the Ros haters are happy...didn't see that one coming and I like it when the show surprises me.

And what's with the Freys' retro-aviator headgear? Did they fly in from The Twins?

I am being cheeky of course, but how can you say *nothing* is happening this season. Heck things have been compressed and happening faster than they did in the books.

While the Mel/Gendry thing can seem strange, I do see how it came about. They needed Arya and Gendry to complete their arch till the BwB, afterwards in the book Gendry is not seen till he rescues Brienne at the end of book 4 from Biter. They eliminated the many bastard storyline, and decided to use an established byblow of Robert, who is Gendry...then they had the problem of how they get him back to Stannis who needs his blood. Mel would be the only one to locate him in the middle of nowhere since she can use her flamesight as a GPS. It is a bit of a runaround, and I wonder what will happen to Gendry...*gulp*..I guess we shall see.

The decision to split Book3 into two seasons has its advantages and disadvantages - the main drawback being that the storylines that were already progressing slowly (Bran, Theon and so on) are even more slower now. I don't see this as a major problem however, since we're getting all these interesting touches (Jojen's condition for example) and scenes where you can just breath with the characters and just enjoy them. For a season where Dany's storyline is one big moment after another, culminating in a finale-like scene in episode FOUR (!), I would hardly describe this as a season where nothing is happening. And while I hate this analogy, I'll make it anyway - The Wire moved *much* more slowly, and focused only on a couple of really strong episodes at the end of the season. GoT doesn't have that luxury since apparently we all expect to be mind-blown every other minute, and for a whole lot of reasons I won't go into now. But seriously, we're not even passed half of ASoS yet. These episodes that focus on laying the groundwork have their purpose. Yes, a lot of scenes could have been better written, but their pacing and story handling overall is a vast improvement over S2.
My eyes are closed but I think I heard Nutella... damn you atat!

Ok I was saying do you think they will kill two birds with one stone ... meaning two plots points ... cold hands saving them from the weights and Sam killing a weight ? shame no one will be there to see Sam the brave tho'
I think Coldhands is confirmed for this season, in one of the summaries. So yes, I expect that he'll arive just as Sam slays a WW and they get overrun by wights? Something like that. Ugh, don't remind me, I think I might be more curious to see Coldhands than the RW.
If Sam kills a Wight next week, he will do it for a nobler reasons ( saving Gilly and Craster Jr ), in the book he kinda awkwardly was saving himself.
One thing of note, in the book it was suggested that Ser Mandon was ordered by Cersei, but this was never confirmed do I remember correctly? Did the show now establish it was Joff?

I wonder how Tywin wil react when he finds out Joff killed Ros for fun. He did say he was gonna step in when Joff was acting nuts....please lets have this season bitchslap come from that confrontation!

Blue eyes green eyes definitely do NOT stand for Cersei etc, like some have suggested in other places. IMO, Arya won't be killing anyone on her list, but yes, I'd say it's a hint of her training - she does kill people in Braavos, right? Riiiight?
I don't remember anything about Mandon Moore, but I think the books suggest that was Cersei. Yes, yes the show is humanizing her quite a bit. Sometimes I wish they wouldn't, but I don't really care either way, since her relationship with Joffrey and how much she's letting him run wild has already been established. I'm much more interested in her future relationship with Tommen, because that's where I think the meaty stuff is.
Nicely done, 79 but, and nothing important comes after but, but

ah ha ... cold hands and the wight... my suspicion is that they will still have a clumsy Sam slaying the wight somewhere, but i wonder if they will reveal the identity of cold hands... Benjen Stark maybe? (that was my random guess when reading the books)
anyway i'm enjoying the plot additions because
a- so far they have been tactful, but also,
b- they actually give former readers something to be surprised about
and the other thing i enjoyed was finally getting some sensible (and beautiful) orchestral score for the credits - much more epic than silly rock bands or little girls singing random songs (to make up for characters lost in translation to screen), it's stereotypical but there's a reason for it.
The other quirky stuff just seems gimmicky and trying-too-hard-to-be-original.
If one were to explore HBO's website and look at the map of the north, it would be fairly obvious that "The Dreadfort" a location that has yet to be explored, will figure at some point, given the color of its icon as opposed to other places (such as Karhold and Torrhen's Square). Any slightly intelligent will rationalize that's where Theon is being kept, if they haven't by all the other clues.

My guess is that we'll see the Dreadfort in the opening credits in episode.....9. Or 10. Damn, I can't decide. I'm gonna go with 9. Which episode is Coldhands going to be in? I think the summary confirms the opposite theory actually, that CH is not Benjen ("a very old man", or something along those lines, wasn't it?). Night's King, Night's King, Night's King, Night's King. But who have they cast in the role, and why hasn't there been any mention of him?
Speaking of the Dreadfort, in the books Theon dissapears and doesnt come back till Ramsay sends him on an errand in book 5. All the while he was being imprisoned and tortured by Ramsay Snow.
While I dunno what they have planned, I do wonder if they could just have pulled a "Ser Barristan" and just skipped him a season and then reveal a broken and disfigured Theon/Reek, instead of his scenes this season will just be him getting tortured and flayed non stop. It might seem repetitive.
Then again "boy" is a joy to watch and he makes Joff seem like a kitten.
