Yes, yes, yes. Absolutely amazing, started last week and finished the last episode yesterday. Super addictive. When a show/actor can pull off talking directly into the camera you know you have gold in your hands. Can't wait for the next (and last) season, this one sorta ended out on a cliffhanger that left me a little dissatisfied. Let's blame GRRM for forever ruining a decent cliffhanger for me. (/IWC-mode)

And the releasing of 1 season of 13 episodes in all it's glory in 1 day is very interesting. I find myself more sucked into a show when I watch 3 episodes in a row, on the other hand I probably forgot a lot of things already and noone is really discussing individual episodes.

aka a modern Game of Thrones.

I discovered the original British series just last year, and I was hooked. Ian Richardson played a marvelous, albeit a bit too much in-your-face villain, and even though the series would have been nothing without him, I thought it was a great find. When I looked it up on wikipedia and read that Netflix was planning its own version with Kevin Spacey in the lead, I literally screamed. I thought it was too good to be true, and it really is. The new adaptation tops the original IMO, and that does not happen often. The characters are more nuanced, the writing, the acting - amazing. I've just finished episode 7 and I can't get enough of Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright together, it's like they've jumped right out of a Shakespeare play. She especially reminds me of lady Macbeth.

Bottom line, this show is really worth it.

Just finished watching the original series with Ian Richardson, so I saw no point in watching the netflix adaptation (given my irrational disgust for Kevin Spacey) but this is making me reconsider. Might wait until it's over though, and watch it altogether.

@Tir - you can watch it altogether, Netflix released all 13 episodes at once.
@Japie - is a next (and last) season already confirmed? Damn damn damn, I have to wait for Mr. Macha so we can watch it together, but I might peak a bit at the end just because I'm curious to see if they'll follow the storyline from the original series. About cliffhangers, I think I'm getting used to them, since all my favorite series seem to get cancelled out of the blue.

Macha, the thing is: it has a decent ending, but it's not a definite ending. BUT we know for sure it will all be wrapped up in season 2, that's so great: no waiting for ratings, executives making decisions and blabla. They gave Fincher 100 million for 2 seasons and they are ending this shit right now. It's so great when you crave for more instead of: "Fuck, they should have ended this shit 3 seasons ago."

Watched 3 episodes. First two started with him in the streets and the dog, ep. 2 with Freddie, the owner of that shithole where apparently he always goes. I like that. "Freddie doesn´t change". That says a lot about this character with simple lines and simple shots.

Robin Wright is really scary and yes Macha, I think she is Lady Macbeth. I didn´t like this actress, she always seemed "off" to me but her performance here is amazing, she´s perfect for the role. And Spacey is like a Richard III and Yago sometimes... lol, that´s dangerous. Every time Spacey talks I can´t stop seeing his character in "Midnight in the garden of good and evil", even his accent is similar. Especially when he talks to the camera. There´s something very similar between Jim Williams and Francis Underwood, besides K. Spacey. Williams was such a wonderful character. I believe someone already said this and it´s true, without Spacey, the whole fourth wall could be a mess. It´s always a risky resource.

One thing I didn´t like at all and strangely enough is one of those street shots I mentioned at the begining but this is at the end of episode 2. When Francis talks with the homeless screaming guy. It was too artificial, too staged, it put me out of the whole thing.

And another thing I´m still thinking about. This one in ep. 3. The speech in the church at the funeral of the girl killed by a giant peach (lol). "Lean not in our own understanding"... said the quote from the Bible. I mean, that´s simply great because you have to do exactly the opposite and he does that all time but it was a bit ridiculous. "Trust the lord, have faith and love him".The way he convinced the girl´s parents... I don´t know, didn´t like the writing there. It was too easy even when they tried not to make the whole thing so easy for him.

Liking it very much but is not addictive for me yet.

Just saw two episodes of the new series, I like it! Though it does seem like Frank is a bit too good of a manipulator so far, but we still have 10 eps left so I am sure there is a chance of something going wrong. I will keep watching.

Hard to believe this is a Netflix show, watch out HBO!

Watched episode 4, 5 and 6. Relationship between Lady Macbeth and Richard III is interesting, kinda horrible but interesting. This couple is getting creepier and creepier with every episode. That whole thing they pulled with the brick it was obvious. I knew it was Francis´ trick.
I´m amazed at how they negotiate their marriage. I give you this you give me that, I fuck this you fuck that. What people have to offer to us? who can we squeezed? Wow.

I like Peter Russo, I like that character or I hate him, not exactly sure. The scene when Russo went to Francis´ house, all fucked up, was glorious. Maybe I wept a bit. Wut? Shut up. BUT BUT BUT the blade at the end? TOO MUCH!!! He can´t  be that wise. He´s too much. I guess when he falls would be a big fall but I think it would be better if Francis were not that… infallible. He buys people with food and some words? Ugh I want to say that´s bullshit, but I can´t.furious

“Ambition” seems to be the right/wrong word in this show. The Governor Russo thing could be great but is just so easy for Francis... I hope that changes in the future."Defecation"… trololol? That was good, the way Francis fucked up at the tv interview. It was necessary. And she´s a sweetie right? “I don´t mind that you improvised, I just wish you did it better”. Bitch!

Again, little scenes in the street, this time is Lady Macbeth that gave some money to a homeless guy. Is this the way to show the people for whom they do nothing or don´t give a damn?... Interesting. The homeless guy also give a damn about her money. I don´t like this little scenes... they smell of analogies. They are a bit pretentious, symbolic. I don´t like it.

Artificial, that is bothering me. Yep. Like the scene between dying Steve (ex bodyguard)  and Lady Macbeth at the hospital. It was good at first when the guy said: "I hate your husband" and she reacted like the cold fish she is but then all that stupid story and the hand job. Meh. Artificial.

So turns out that Freddie is the man… just because he´s a great cook. Oh well. Classic.  At least I know now why Francis goes to Freddie´s joint: southern food. He´s Williams from "Midnight in the garden of good and evil!

It seems that I don´t like this show but I do. Not loving it tho.

I was waiting for someone to mention the hand job at the hospital because I couldn't. Ok, that scene creeped both me and Mr. Macha out, and we're not that easy to creep out. What....in R'hllor's name...was that? I just love how daring this show is, considering it's Netflix and everything - btw, is this Netflix's first project? I agree with Don, watch out, HBO. I hope they continue.
Yes, as andi said, the show is a bit artificial at times, but maybe because I saw the British version I can't complain. This one is much more raw, and cruel, and ...ugh. I love it. It's not perfect but I love it. The only thing I hate about it is that I have to wait for Mr Macha to come back from Canada so we can see the last 6 episodes.
I didn't really understand the bit about the homeless guy. Did he give her back all her money? Are they...sort of friends now? Or does he despise her? In any case, I actually think she may be better written than him, she gets muuch more material to work with, too bad she can't really reach Spacey's level. But she's good. She freezes the screen. Spacey, in all his brilliance, tends to be a bit...hmm...monotone? It's something about his voice. He never really raises it or lowers it.
And yes, Russo is a great character.

for me that scene is not well done but maybe because is all a horrible analogy or some symbolic shit. I don´t know yet. Anyway, maybe is not written for us to understand now. Too twisted.

Have I mentioned I finally finished the series?
Ok so I found the ending to be a bit underwhelming, because I was expecting a major event to happen. I think I understand how they adapted the storyline and because I don't want to give anything away, I'll say only this - it was a good call. Season 2 is most definitely a given, or else they would have ended it differently. I hope it comes out at the beginning of next year, I really loved the show.
The actor playing Peter Russo is amazing. Just look at that face! Such a good character.
I LOVE Claire's character, I really do. For me she went from meh to bloody great, writing-wise at least. But that ex-boyfriend of hers.....although the storyline was good, he was terrible. Ugh, that uber-posh accent.

I like the show enough to stick around, I find Kevin Spacey a treat to watch, esp since he is hamming it up a little bit.
At least in Westeros people will use a sword to stab you in the back, in Washington its all done with fake smiles and a pen scibble, making it that much disturbing.

I was blown away with House of Cards, they really delivered an oustanding show with incredible performances. If Kevin Spacey doesn't win an Emmy for Best Acting I'll be shocked and disappointed.

Speaking of awards, Corey Stoll as Peter Russo deserves pretty much everything.

Oooooh she played Mattie in the original series, didn't she? Daaaaaaaaddyyyy! teehee

Don, I think they just started filming S2, so my guess would be early 2014. I remember reading they have Molly Parker (Deadwood) on board too.

I hate trailers like this. They don't have a story, it's just a collection of witty, dramatic lines set to inappropriate blockbuster music. puke
That, and I can't wait for S2. yippie

His southern accent is ratchet however. He sounds like he's doing the same fake accent he did in Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, which is Savannah and lowcountry--and marginal at best. But he's supposed to be from Gaffney, and "poor white trash". Doesn't sound like it at all.

And TOO MUCH FUCKING SMOKING.

I loved the first season. I waited to see it for the longest time even though I had it in the instant queue and then one day I watched one ep. and finished it in 2 days. The only time I liked Kevin Spacey was in The Usual Suspects and L A Confidential. But in this I thought he was close to brilliant.

I'm so mad right now. Just saw the episode where Underwood kills Russo. I absolutely loved Corey Stall. I don't know how Kevin Spacey got nominated with that awful accent and not Corey Stall for best supporting. At least he got nominated for the Golden Globe.

One thing that bothered me. Russo died in the passenger seat, wouldn't the police figure that as a red flag?

About his Southern Accent, don't politicians do that to sound more "folksy"?

If he had the appropriate accent, he would sound more folksy.  He sounds like he's from coastal Georgia, not upstate South Carolina.

Extremely! I just read something on twitter regarding this.

I thought the accent was OK for a South Carolina accent, but that just goes to show you Mr. Storm knows what is what and I know nothing.
