Oh so the first episode is out? I'll have to watch this, even though I didn't like the trailer all that much. But it's Hannibal and I loved the books. And that's Mads Mikkelsen right there, so...freakout Case closed.

I think so, Don. It's not bad for NBC. Could turn out to be quite good. It's just a bit heavy on the symbolism (and slow-motion scenes).

PS: Yes, Mikkelsen's English is a bit hard to follow at times, but I'm glad he didn't bother hiding his accent, since Lecter is supposed to be Lithuanian after all.

I am gonna have to check it out, it's a regular cable Tv show, so don't know how many things they can show. But I am curious.

Watched the first episode. Kinda meh so far, I'm not a fan of this style of directing and I wasn't sold on the script either. But I'll keep watching, Eddie Izzard and Gillian Anderson are in the show too. Maybe I should reread Red Dragon, but I'm so lazy...
LOL at the "Winston, meet everybody" scene. Those doggies are adorable. I hope they won't get eaten. blankstare

Ok, anyone here knows Bryan Fuller´s writing or shows? "Dead like me", "Pushing daisies" or "Wonderfalls"? Makes me wonder why he´s writing this show now.

While watching (trying to stop looking for Mikkelsen in the first few seconds) I thought, too "staged" (beautifuly filmed tho), not natural at all and I like natural but hey it´s Hannibal Lecter. I guess Fuller could only write this show in this way. Nobody wants Hopkin´s Hannibal again and again. And certainly, Mikkelsen is not playing that (oh boy this man, I even like suits now). They didn´t change his accent which is good I guess but hard to follow sometimes without subs (I don´t care just keep talking man). His face is...unflappable and he seems... happy? That´s funny. The lungs scene is so creepy and funny (and Mikkelsen with a cook's apron and that sexy skillet). Again, too staged. I guess I´ll have to adapt to the "pretty" untill I decide if I like this or not.

Hugh Dancy (Will Graham) is the opposite of Hannibal, of course, a nervous wreck. You just want to tell him "chill, it´ll be fun" but he´s, apparently, the reluctant hero or something like that.

There´s this scene I like when Hannibal bring Will the breakfast... I wish that scene had no dialogue. I fear we´ll hear a lot of those dialogues between them.

Some good acting all over the place of course. I´m still thinking about it.

I watched the pilot expecting it to be all kinds of silly but I really enjoyed it! Really, it's not even as high concept as a lot of Fuller's other work, which is a little odd since it's Hannibal Lecter of all things. It has promise, but I'm not sure if it'll get the chance to live up to its potential - the numbers already aren't looking too good, apparently.

The pilot episode was free on iTunes, so I downloaded it.

I kinda dig it, very gritty for a Network Tv show, that impressed me. More abstract than most crime/mystery shows, but I dig that too. And I enjoy Mikkelsen, he is one creepy dude and his version of Lecter could be fun to watch. I am not sure how this version of Graham is gonna be, his whole "autistic" thing seems a bit too intense at times, but I will have to watch more.

I actually really liked the first episode. Dark disturbing and mythic with some really insane characters. Excited to see what will happen this season.

Mushrooms! wut the feckity fuck?
"You've been terribly rude, what's to do about that?" Cut to "pork loins". Dammit, I thought the chick was toast.
"I'd love to have you both for dinner." Staaaahp it!

Oh no, not the fucking stag again. Did that stag have feathers on his arse, or was it just me? That stag ain't right.

So much for this episode.

Mushrooms was a creepy idea that I really liked but... wasted.

I liked it, the mushroom crime scene was clever and imaginative. Sure a lotta creative serial killers in Baltimore, eh?

I also thought the redhead was toast when Hannibal called her "rude" it's his pet peeve.

I think the relationship with Hannibal and Graham is interesting, but how many cases did Hannibal help before he got caught? Surely this show wont go for 7 seasons?

We shall see, but I like it so far.

The series creator has stated that he wont let the cat and mouse game drag out for. too long, 2 or 3 seasons at the very most. So dont worry bout that.

Since its been reported that human flesh tastes alot like pork and Hannibal seemed to hesitate before saying what loins they were...yeah i was a bit disappointed when she was alive.

So apparently episode 4 was pulled out and will only be broadcast outside the US? MUHAHA. I'll still be able to watch it then.
It seems they're releasing a few clips to make the transition between episodes more smooth, but this first video isn't available in my region. Bummer.

PS: I don't think I like the direction they're taking his character though. Him killing Abby's friend is one thing (she was rude to her mother) but the whole copycat thing...? Meh.

Yeah I wanna see episode 4! I am finding Mads a bit....bland....maybe it is just me but I like it when Hannibal has a bit of madness behind the eyes. Maybe they are holding back, but I like it when he let's his crazy shine through.

Funny, they can show mutilated backs on Tv, but don't show any nudity! That would be messed up!

Ep. 6 was...freakout Finally, some good stuff. So many book references too. The sequence where Hannibal kills Miriam - isn't that exactly how Will figures out Hannibal is the killer in "The Red Dragon", with the drawing? Loved that.
And I might have screamed a little when Eddie Izzard showed up on my screen.

Macha, I don't think Miriam is dead. Or at least not in that scene. She did still had to be alive to make that recording, right? The one Crawford got called with over and over.

I also agree, best episode this season for me. Loved the Red Dragon and Silence references!

Wait, I didn't think of that. Good catch, Don. The plot thickens. That scene seemed to come straight from Hannibal's memory, was there more to it? When could she have made that recording? If it was one a phone, wasn't there a receiver? And how could he have tricked/drugged her to record that?
I think he didn't play the whole memory, I think she saw the drawing and wanted to leave a message on Jack's phone, but was interrupted by Hannibal....who then broke into Jack's home and took the tape from his machine before he had the chance to play it? Of course, this whole theory is crap if she did the sensible thing to do and left the message on his mobile.
And what about the severed arm? I think it's fair to say that she's dead by now, but where did he keep her all this time? mads

The last episode was wonderful, seeing him prepare for his "dinner party" was a delight.
The show is kinda messed up when it makes cannibalism look delicious.

I think the fat, stalker patient will end up getting Hannibal in trouble, either catching him in the act
or Hannibal wil pin a murder on him. The patient has been overstepping his bounds, and that is rude...and we know what Hannibal does to rude people.

Can you believe the show hasnt been renewed yet? Fuckin NBC!

Did they renew it yet? Did they? DID THEY?

They killed Franklin. DO NOT WANT. I liked Franklin. That fight scene was pretty awesome tho.
It's amazing how incredibly static Mikkelsen and G. Anderson are in their scenes. In a good way.

Franklin was a dumbass, and I knew he would die...just not so suddenly. That was one creepy crime scene again, this show has been amazing at making unsettling crimes.

There are a few more eps left, I hope we get word on it's renewal...its been a great show and deserves more.

Wow the amount of disturbing stuff they pull off on this show is amazing. I am a horror fiend, but after watching last night episode I actually considered checking under my bed. Haha

One thing that struck me as odd in an otherwise excellent episode, what kinda weird hospital is so understaffed that zombie girl can casually stroll in and Hannibal can butcher a victim with no one noticing?

Even so, all private practices at least have a receptionist? And how did zombie girl track Graham? The murder in the cabin took place in Delaware and and the clinic is in Maryland. How did she track Will down? Did she drive? Take a bus? Without skin on her arm?

Lol

Still liked the episode a lot but, weird!

There are obvious plot holes in most episodes, but I can't be bothered. I'm in it for the food, Bryan Fuller's sick imagination and mads 's face.  But the way I saw it, Dr. Whatshisname might have sent everybody home on purpose (this was after-hours too, I think), since he was going to alter the test results anyway and maybe he was trying to be careful and not let anyone see anything suspicious. What I still can't decide on is - did Hannibal meant to kill him from the start, or was their dinner the trigger?

Eddie Izzard next week. Bliss!

This...episode...was....SO....badly written!facepalm2.gif

Hannibal and Gideon talking there with Will out of the picture? LMAO. Did he just doze off or something and slept on his feet like a freakin' horse? "Will, you're seeing things, nevermind you got here in a car that wasn't yours which you then presumably used to get to Alana's house, you'll never think that I was bullshitting you because you are such a crazy cookie but I care for you and let's be friends, though I'll totally make you think you are the Ripper next week." Come on, Bryan. Bit too much to swallow. And how the hell did Will manage to sneak up on Gideon? His panting would have woken an entire street! And Gideon just leaves with him? WHY? He could have easily overpowered him and he had no idea Will would eventually lead him to the Ripper.

Everything was a mess this episode. Except for the moment where Hannibal casually walks in again and takes off his coat. "That was really clever of me *chuckle chuckle*, I have to remember to write it in my diary before I go to bed."

I saw it today too. I'm in love with those two goofy dudes and their little jokes. I can't remember their names, Jack's team.

Is Gillian Anderson playing the exact character she's playing in The Fall? Her face Literally. Doesn't. Move. An inch.
What the heck happened to her patient? He swallowed his tongue - yes RIGHT.

goofy dudes are Jimmy and Brian. Jimmy is Scott Thompson from Kids in the hall... please tell me you saw that.

That´s Gillian Anderson´s face... always.

So, I´ll keep NOT combing my hair.

The understaffed, unsupervised hospital strikes again! How did he...get the comb in there??

In any case, that death was AMAZING! Oh poor skinless girl, all she wanted was to brush her hair.

The didn't show it, but what happened to Abigail? Did he really kill her? Or is her body gonna dissapear like agent Miriam?

We shall see, let's hope for a good finale!

@Don - I laughed so much at the comb scene simply because I just knew you'd make a comment about the understaffed hospital. Brilliant idea, though.
@Andi - Yeah I know both of these actors from *somewhere*, but I can't place them, and it was not Kids in the hall. UUUUGH. It will come to me.
You know, I'm really curious to see how Will realizes it was Lecter all along, seeing how they gave his epiphany scene from the books to Miriam on the show. And will he spend the entire S2 in prison? Good god, I'll miss his suits. And the food!

Hannibal has been a pleasant suprise, I didn't have high hopes after the sillyness of The Following but it's a really good show.

I wasn't expecting it to be so gruesome though.

Indeed! It's amazing what you can get away with violence on US Tv, but no nudity or cursing that is UNACCEPTABLE!

My bad, there was a piece I read that only quoted this bit:
"As Hannibal has said [to Graham] in a couple of the movies, ‘You’re a lot more like me than you realize.’ We’ll get to the bottom of exactly what that means over the course of the first two seasons. But we’re taking our sweet precious time.”

So I only remembered the two seasons part, and not the whole context. Here is a more detailed article. Apparently Fuller has an outline for seven seasons. Riiiight, good luck with that. mads I wonder if he might change his plans now that he knows how hard it was to renew it for a second season.

Yeah lol. I remember Andrew Lincoln talking about how when he had that sex scene from S1 of TWD there was a consultant standing by making sure there wasn't too much grinding going on but when it came to killing zombies he was free to go to town biggrin

The showrunner said he had a 4 season run in mind, but this season we already see much suspicion headed towards Hannibal, how will they diffuse this to make it come to a head 3 seasons later?

Honestly with how ruthless networks are in America I'd be shocked if the show even reached series 3. I hope I am wrong but it took them a good while to renew the show for season 2.
