Oh man, that was good. No complaints really, although the hubby is VERY disappointed in the length of the Jaime and Brienne fight (he wanted me to add: "and the way she seemed to dominate the whole thing).

Just watching Larry William's review, and you know what's puzzling to me? How come so many people bought into the whole "Your sister sent me here to save you" scene? I thought it was so painfully obvious it was a hoax, so I suppose this is really good for the show.

Unlike A Clash of Kings, I did not re-read the book right before this season started. I am happy I did, I am a knit-picker and not having the book recently memorized made me enjoy the ommisions better.

All the hate the writers got last year for not having Jojen and Meera last season was bullshit, they made a good call saving them for this season. The introduction was cool and gave us a great vibe of the siblings.

Seeing Theon actually get tortured at the Dreadfort is kinda cool, finally seeing the Bastard Of Bolton play his game in the background is fun, though from next weeks preview it seems like he lets Theon escape, maybe to lead him to a trap? Must be.

Thoros was always bland in the books, the Tv show character is so much fun, I think I am gonna enjoy Aryas trek with them.

Sam's walk of shame was SO much better in the books sadly, the killer cold and his suffering were so well done in the books, the Tv scene was just limp...I hope this gets set up so Sam the slayer can make an appearance, gee, I hope so.

Changes I liked: Tv Margaery is epic win, so far every invented scene...especially the one with Joffrey was pure gold...her ambiton and her clever "suger over vinegar" approach.

The sword scene between Jaime and Bree was good, but in the book I liked that Brienne was yelling "YIELD!!" to him the whole time, she knew if any harm came to Jaime her mission would be screwed. In the Tv scene it seemed more light a straight duel, but she withered him down in the Tv version faster.

I liked Cat's speech, Michelle was very solid and she sold it...and it does not go against canon, some people didn't like it...but I did.

The queen of Thorns is perfect, I didnt want her scene...and the lemoncakes...to end.

It was a bit weird to see the fight between Jaime & Brienne so...toned down? I guess I expected more passion, but by the end I thought it worked very well. It was more playful and very much in line with their previous interaction in this episode. Jaime trying to knock her down, really? That was a nice touch. I'm really curious to see how they're gonna handle the whole Locke/Vargo as a Bolton man now, since they're already adding so much to the Bolton creep factor already.

Oh dear, Dormer is actually very good. I did not expect this.

Re: Catelyn's scene with Talisa, I'm sorry but I don't see it as *that* big of a change. It still ends with her not being able to love Jon, the only change is that now she's considering that maybe the gods were punishing her and her children because of the way she acted towards Jon, which actually feels very realistic to me and no, to me it doesn't feel like they made her character "all about Jon". She's a woman at the end of her strength, and she's trying to find an explanation for all that her children have suffered.

Now, Shae's scene with Tyrion, despite the writing (and I have to say acting too), I think it works for two reasons. First, it's a reminder that Shae is quite manipulative, even more so when it comes to Tyrion. Second, of course her jealousy was an act, BUT I think it will be very genuine once Tyrion and Sansa are married. Tyrion won't have as much time for her and she'll constantly suspect him, and I think this will result in them growing apart in the show. It's the only way they can possibly explain her screwing Tywin at this point - she needs another man to protect her in KL *and* it will also give her a chance to get back at Tyrion at the same time, even though she obviously loves him in the show. I also think I saw a little "wink" to this in her line to Sansa about men being too old - "they don't see it that way".

I agree with the purpose of the scene and how it will play in the future and I think it worked. It did feel like a genuine situation to me, even if the writing was, as most of Vanessa Taylor's GOT, pretty awful. However, I like Sibel Kekili's Shae very much.

About the rest of the episode I can't comment on yet. I need a bit of distance first.

Oh catelyn
My issue with that is that she's taking the blame for everything on herself.
Loved thoros singing Rains of Castamere. I suppose this means there's no Lemoncloak
Anguy is GREAT!
OMG BOY. BOY. HE APPEARS. I like how they're laying this out.

olenna was dropping all sorts of bombs about her son, Mace. I think he's clearly going to be prominent as a character, even if he's not yet in the forefront. Can we say Purple Wedding?

I missed the way that scene panned out in the books ... I was looking forward to the jester singing at the top of his voice to drown them out ..
It was still a great scene , I shed a tear at Sansa finally being able to tell someone ... poor little girl ."He is a monster"

After seeing the meme of Joffas looking like Nellie Oleson I can't get that image out of my mind ! Ha ha! But he rocked his scenes with his mum and his bride ..

Cat scene with Taliwaker or what ever her name is ... was ok , in fact I 'll go as far as to say I enjoyed it.

I loved this ep. way more than the first , but I knew I would .

Wolves! Jojen and Meera , Thoros! Arya and Gendry , still hate Marg... but I don't think I can get passed that.

Need to rewatch for more thoughts ...

The added Cat scene was one of the best of the series. Wow.

While reading the books I always wondered why Margaery was never harmed or treated poorly by Joff, the scene in this episode was so great cuz it answered that question.

Okay, I loved this episode. But here is what I'm most upset about missing.

I found the books scenes with Catelyn and Hoster on his deathbed particularly poignant and gripping. But I understand how they're really making Catelyn someone different in the series, and those particular scenes were unnecessary for whatever reason. The scene with Talisa was a poor substitute, however.

I've worked out why the Sam scene is off... they should be trudging through deep snow ... Sam should be exhausted ... that didn't come across...

Loved every single moment of it.

- Bran (so tall and grown up!) running. Meeting Jojen in his dream - and BOOM! "The raven is YOU."

Rickon wakes up at the same time as Bran!!! (more of this please.)

- Love Oona. Love her with Robb. Love that they're giving that some screen time.

- Love Roose being all nice.

- Oh no dark wings, dark words - no demands from...

- POOR THEON!

- It's the Jamie and Brienne Road Show! "The throne should have been made of cocks...." "SHUT YOUR MOUTH" "....we don't choose who we love." Gods I love Jamie so much! He gets the award for Most Teller Of Truths.

- Cersei realizes Monster is out of control.

- Love the Shae/Sansa show! Love Sansa being totally grossed out at the thought of LF being into her even if he's "too old." Sophie's face was awesome. I love Shae! (That outcome is going to be painful.) Then Sansa's SuperCrush on Loras - and finally -

- DAME RIGG. Perfection. Love that they're playing the Lannisters With Flowers angle. It's so true. Sansa's little catharsis. Good to get "Monster" out. Such a great setup for the the QoT.

(I need to start eating while watching. I've never craved lemon cakes and cheese at the same time, but that looked amazing....and a little Pinot Grigio... ah yeah!)

- Orell! Ygritte: "You've never met a warg?" (well...... actually......)

- Loved the Cat scene everyone is moaning about, but then I saw season 1 before I read the books, so I was shocked by BookCat actually wanting Ned to go be Hand to improve their family standings. I've always loved ShowCat a little more than BookCat just because she seems less cold, (and didn't want Ned to go.) I loved this scene because she still subconsciously blames / hates Jon for not being lovable enough for her to get past her own jealousy.

"And everything that's happened since then, all this horror that's come to my family, it's all because I couldn't love a motherless child."

I mean HFS!! He's not just any motherless child, and she knows that. (well... she doesn't know everything, but that might make it worse!)

- "Tarley, I forbid you to die!" Love this. Love the lower they take Sam the better the payoff.

- Jojen and Meera AT LAST! "It's the first time I've ever seen my father cry..." MORE PLEASE!!!! Love how Jojen is just so casually matter-of-fact and to the point. YES! Jojen confirms Howland told him nothing of the rebellion, but also confirms he saw it anyway. Interesting how they see Bran as the most important.

- Love the Arya, Gendry, Hot Pie show! Love all the hot sexy bearded men! Thoros! Tormund! mmmmmm purrr. Hey Sandor! Where ya been? Love that he recognizes Arya immediately. Says something about his humanity in relation to LF wondering WTF.

- Margaery isn't afraid of Joffrey, instead she baits him, and tries to out-sociopath him. Well played Madame. Well played indeed.

- Jamie and Brienne Show cross the wrong bridge. Bummer. Jamie is getting redundant-captured.

Gods another endless week waiting for Sunday!

I just wonder where this season we'll get the

 .

I meant to read the comments at lunch but work was crazy today. I really love all the scenes that D&D invented for the show - especially the Margaery and Joffrey ones. As a book reader they are totally dropping hints that the Tyrells are going to have to do something about their royal pain in the ass. I can't wait until that all plays out in (I assume) season 4!

Cat is a divisive character. Even in the books, when you can actually read her thoughts, yet I feel Tv Cat is my prefered version.
Her Jon Snow monologue has fired people up, and instead of me repeating my comments of before I will use this quote that sums it up for me, quite eloquently:

From the WIC Recap:

"I have a feeling this scene is going to be quite controversial. My take? I liked it. It was emotional and very well-acted by Michelle Fairley. Let’s analyze the two contentious points of the monologue, as I see them. First off, is it really believable that Catelyn would show only disgust and hatred towards Jon Snow for 17 years? That seems unlikely. More often than not, I’m sure she treated him kindly, even if she wasn’t overly affectionate towards him. And given that she isn’t a horrible person, I can believe that she would feel compassion for a young boy who is in pain. As for blaming herself for what has happened? Well, thankfully I’ve never lost a child (or thought I may be in danger of losing a child) but I can imagine that a feeling of profound guilt when in the throes of grief is feasible. It’s clear that Cat is speaking from a place of real pain, so I think we have to take that into account when analyzing her words."

I cannot understand the sheer rage her character generates, you would think she is worse than Joffrey. And many of these are book readers who can't decide what they hate more about her, I really hope Michelle does not venture online and read these comments because I am embarrased to be associated to a band of online trolls.

I haven't read the comments but I am one of those who was so disgusted at that scene that it sucked the enjoyment out of the rest of the episode for me. Only 24 hours later, with the aid of my boyfriends non-reader eyes to keep me grounded and rosy cheeked I was able to enjoy the rest. I need to gain a bit more zenness in order to delve into that topic, but I'll try to write about it as soon as I'm able to.

I don't think the issue was with Catelyn because fans *hate* her, I think the issue with that monologue is precisely because many fans *love* her, and they felt that D&D have been laying shit on her. Or making her more likeable. One of the two. Or BOTH.

Macha, they can't please everyone and her character is precisely the one where "damn if they do, damn if they don't".
I wonder how messed up they will film the RW, and what the reaction will be. They still have 7 episodes to tie things up, and I think Riverun will do good things for Robb and Cat, and will send them out in style.

Been thinking about the "boy" releasing Theon. Isnt there a part of the book when Ramsay releases Theon or someone only to hunt them down to capture them again?

Actually, yes..... VERY VERY famous. You might not know about it, because no one has ever pointed it out to you, but it's a sound file you've probably heard a LOT. It's in every Star Wars film, every Indiana Jones film, Toy Story, Iron Man, all three Lord of the Rings films, The Hobbit, and a bazillion others:

And once you hear it, you can never UNhear it.

I'm late but i'm shared about the episode. Actors and landscapes are great as always but i think the narrative structure get to i'ts limits, the story is close to puzzle and go in too many ways. Wich is a pleasure in the book becomes an obstacle when adaptated and i understand why D and d want to contract it, because our attention is lost and we can't keep a full emotionnal contact with every character (and i love most of all ).
There were great things, as you said it Dormer is wonderful, subtle and out of cliche, she 's a far best Margy than i could ever imagine on screen, a pleasure. Dianna Rigg was great, very ladylike (even if, don't know why, i pictured Olenna very vulgar in a kind of way) and there's an alchemy with Dormer wich strikes me, the way Dormer answers her is exactly the scene i had in my head when reading... But i missed the big fat fool singing .
Brotherhood without banners, the best of the show imo, TV Thoros is full of life and charisma, much better than the one in the book imo. And Maisie is such a brilliant kid, it's really amazing how she matches the stuff perfectly with art and humor.
And we have a great Anguy, badass and full of himself, loved it.
I thought the Jaime and Brienne's intercations were quite good, they chose to give the arc a "buddy movie " tone and i found it quite pleasant. Not original but Christie and Costen Waldau seem to have pleasure playing their parts together and that's nice for the audience.
For the rest, i found we stayed too far from the characters, we don't see them enough to even have an advice. The thing that surprised me is the little Bran becoming a teenage with a different voice and i must get accostumed to. The Reeds and Ramsay seem convincings (i love the Reeds in the books) but not enough scenes to really judge the chemistry. Oh and i noticed we have a Meera Polly Jean Reed, the actress evocates me the young Polly Harvey.
For the Theon scenes, i'm not disturbed at all, all the scenes in Dreadfort are supposed to happen during ASOS, so the narrative logic is respected. And yes Rygar, Ramsay traps Theon in order to torture him later. It is not her sister who is supposed to help him but a young maid names Kyra who was Theon's mistress in Winterfell.
