Today I watch the first episode of some disturbing series about Leonardo Da Vinci where Leonardo is like Robin Hood, but horny and bisexual. BUT, opens with our Lord Hugh Downtown here playing the older Medici, can´t remember the name now. And he´s NEKKID! Lord Grantham... WUT. Shocking, put some socks on man. And that scene was great. I love both actors, they are great, talenten and funny. Must be others but those two are awesome.

Hugh Bonnevile is quite fun to watch outside of Downton but it's like he carries that role with him now, so I'd rather not see him in GoT. BUT Brendan Gleeson? I adore this man. Don't really see him as a Tyrell, but I could live with that.
Brendan Gleeson was closer to my mental Tormund than to Mace. He has too much life in him for Mace, I think. Right now I can't think of anyone, but I would also like to steer away from the main Downton actors. I'll warg an actor scouter and see what i can find.

Love to see Brendan Gleeson as Mace Don. He has been in most everything else, way not GoT? He matches Mace`s description particularly well in that photo. Hell, he even has the tired eyes.
I think the reason they talk him up in the Tv show is that they will make him hand of the king after Tywin dies. I doubt the Tv series will bother with Harys Swift and Orthon Merryweather. Just like the Tv show made Bronn captain of the city watch instead of Jacelyn Bywater in the book.
It would be an elegant streamlining in my opinion, and they would have to cast an actor that has the same presence as Charles dance but of course not the gravitas, as I always thought Mace was a bit of an oaf.

WHO? No seriously, who are those people? In my mind, Mace Tyrell was already Hand after Tywin pooped.
Somehow I don't think they'll go with a very known actor for his part. He is important for Cersei's trial, but he doesn't do much on his own, does he? There were several good actors in The Tudors that matched Mace's age, now that I think of it.
I LOLed at the suggestion over at WiC for Robert Bathurst. Because apart from the weight (which isn't that important anyway) it's so spot on. Aaw this brings back Downton memories.
omg yes! Robert Bathurst would be perfect, personality wise! And they could padd him up or say he's gone on a diet or sth

oh lordy, Sir Anthony...how the QoT called him? This guy is perfection for that. So not salty.

After Tywin dies the show will need an actor with gravitas for the hand of the king, while he is a totally different character Brandan will adequately fill the void.

Mark Gatiss is joining GOT for season 4 and I can't really see him playing anyone else other than Mace. Personally I actually think he's a really good choice, sure he's not as heavy or red faced as I envisioned but I feel he'll be able to nail the character.
Actually, this behind the scenes photograph has been officially confirmed:

Mace is a good fit, but I can see him in other roles as well. It could also be a really small part, but I'm happy to have him on the show even if it's for 30 seconds.
I'm going out on a limb here on Mr. Sherlock and say mayhaps he's Ironborn, say

Didn't they establish that Mace was rather "rotund" last season. This skinny guy seems an odd match.
I actually think he might be playing either: A) The New High Septon or ...and this might sound crazy. But bear with me:
Bran's story has problems. He will run out of stuff to do, so I think the show might make a possible solution where his visions of the future and the past appear as flashback scenes. So through Bran the Tv show can show past events, mythology and such that will work within the format. Plus it will give Bran something to do.
So I think he Gatiss will be playing the Mad King.

I believe Olenna referred to her son as a fat headed oaf or something along the lines of that. She also said Mace enjoyed the feasting table during the seige of Storms End.
I too pictured a rotund man playing the role but the weight can be ignored as long as the actor is able to portray the character right IMO.
So I think he Gatiss will be playing the Mad King.
Get out!
High Septon could work, but then how come he never got to shoot anything in Dubrovnik? Of course, it could just be a studio scene set in KL. When do they start filming in Croatia anyway?
My money's on Axell Florent, or a combination of characters for Stannis's storyline.
Unless he does some crazy shit later on in the books, for me he falls on the "filler" side of the Tyrells, along with Garland, Willas and some other 50 cousins.
It would be really odd to introduce the Tyrell's but not include the head of the family. We need to see Mace and Randyll together show the family is powerful.

I agree, however the Tv show has brought some "meh" book characters and made them quite more interesting. A good actor will go a long way.

Randyll and Mace have been name-checked quite a few times last season. Thats usually a good indicator they are incoming.
No one name checked the Greyjoys (gulp!)

Shut the fuck up! They are in no way shape or form going to miss the opportunity to cast two such massive slap stick characters.. I mean honestly he/they have killed of Ned / I'm too drunk to think of others (ha ha) but my point is .. they will be big fan (newtv) stars ... no one else in the running ... they simply have to include them in the main story ... you mark my words.. Goddess of Tits and Wine has spoken ... Ithanyou.. *bows*
Okay, maybe not (LOL). But it can't hurt to prepare yourselves for it. After all, up to this point their storylines make virtually no difference in the lives of all the other characters except maybe Asha, who's already been completely rewritten as Yara now anyway .

Hmmm, this rumored guy might actually work in the bumbling oaf aspect. But how the hell did Margaery and Loras get their looks from? That guy is fairly unfortunate looking.....
Lol Or maybe Lady Alerie Hightower fooled around with the stable boy....weirder things have happened afterall...
