Coming in August The BBC have jumped on the Thrones wagon by giving us Phillipa Gregory's Hisorical Novel series ... set to the backdrop of The War of the Roses ...
Rhaegar, despite wounding Robert, was struck down with a massive blow from Robert's warhammer, which scattered the rubies encrusted in Rhaegar's armor under the water. Rhaegar died with Lyanna Stark's name on his lips.

Don't have very high hopes but Jaimes Frain? I gotta see this.

Just saw the pilot, I admit it was a bit slow. But that happens as everyone gets introduced, the main lead (Rebecca Ferguson) is not bad, but her mother ( Janet McTeer ) gets to have more fun. There is a delicious scene at the end of the pilot where the new queen meets her mother in law, and let's just say it made me think back of the GOT S2 "curtsey" scene.
I will give the second episode a try, if the show will have more backstabbings I might stick around.

Watching it now. It's baaaad. Too clean, too manicured, and Max Irons's neck is funny. In some shots it appears to be twice the size of his head. But dammit, James Frain. So I guess I'll have to keep watching.

I'm so Dumb! I thought it was a made up story set in that time period . But she was an actual person and her sons are the ones who end up in the tower never to be heard of again ! Silly me .... I'm on it now tho'.

But her daughter is Elizabeth of York who married Henry VII,
Making her the grandmother of Henry VIII and Margaret Tudor, ancestor of all the post-Tudor kings and queens of Great Britain

Ha ha ha! Don I missed the beginning 15 mins when it aired but re watched the other morning and thought exactly the same thing ... Whitewalkers are coming any minute now ....
Cary ... yes I read up on it . She is .
Yes Max Irons is Jeromy and Sinead Cusack's (the lovely Mrs Thorton, North and South) unfortunately I don't think his skills match up to his parents ...imo. I wasn't feeling the mad lust supposedly going on there ....
Thought this show had potential, judging by the trailers. And the opening scene in the snow was very atmospheric, but alas it went downhill from there for me. Just to clean looking, and the acting was a tad wooden in places. Liked the scene where she meets her new mother in law, but the rest was a bit "Mills and Boon" for me. I will still watch ep2 though, with a hope for a faster pace, more action less talking. Interesting they have included the subtle supernatural element, but I hope they keep it subtle, and not get ridiculous. Feckin Craster!! Still looks like a nutter.....
Why do most BBC shows always seem to have the same sort of look ? do they use the same camera for all of their shows ?
I agree, although the BBC has come a long way, remember those early 2005 Dr Who episodes that looked like they were filmed on a camcorder/ cellphone....
As far as I know they are filmed digitally like other large to medium budget shows, GOT uses the ARRIFLEX and so does Downton, it might simply be a cinematograhers quirk that gives the show it's look.

This. I had no idea Henry VII's mom was so cray-cray. She's gonna be so mad when she finds out who he marries!

Hah, been wondering that myself. Usually I love it, but here it just seem to contribute to the "cleanness" of the show and, after a season of Game of Muddy Men and Filthy Hair, it's hard to get into this other look. Takes away the realism of the show.
Ok, saw episode one, wasn't thrilled, but deff was gonna give it a go. Found ep 2 to be a snorefest, and the storytelling... all over the place??? Incredibly disjointed Don't know if I'll keep watching, though James Frain might just make me. Damn.

Well I've lost interest ... don't know if I'll watch any more . I found it hard keeping up with who every one was , ok so I was only half watching but still, they failed to keep my attention. Probably will watch next week tho'
This show is weird, it is mind-numbingly boring one second and then it does some kinda cool stuff to keep me watching. I agree James Frain is the best thing this show has, and the last 15 minutes a king gets captured ( like a dumbass traveling alone at night, seriously?) and Craster and his son get
Did anyone else notice after the show jumped forward 3 years, Elizabeth's kids are all grown and Henry looked exactly the same? ( his cray-cray mother is pretty great)
*Sigh* Will watch again I guess, nothing else is on.

Ah, Crastor's daughters . Also had the same going through the snow where are the walkers feeling in the beginning. Apparently, Crastor has the same luck as Sean Bean in movies. Yep, Henry's mom is bat shan crazy, wow. Thought Anne, the younger of Frain's daughters, would come over to Elizabeth's side, she seemed salvageable. Will keep watching.

I don´t mind at all the tidy look of the BBC productions... I remember some years ago when tele was not digital they used just one film (I think it was Fuji) and that gave a special color to all just like in movies. You can always told when a movie was british. And the BBC always have that... as dirty and chaotic as Dickens´ adaptations can be they always made them look good. No problem with that but what really bothers me is the aesthetics regarding the characters, the actors. It´s like a beauty shop this series. I mean, even Richard (next Richard III) it´s pretty... c´mon. Whur´s my hump??? and I´m not saying the fun
And the script yes, all over the place.
I don´t think I´ll keep watching, not even for Frain.

Me neither. Screw this, Luther is coming in July.
The beauty shop is what bothers me as well, and the fact that they all look too scrubbed up, not the film/filters per se. BBC productions have come a long way since the 80s-90s, and almost everything they shoot now looks amazing in the hands of a decent director & cinematographer.

So, I decided last night this reminded me of a special made-for-TV movie on Lifetime (which is an American TV network "for women"). We still like it. Although the magic spells are just plain silly.

Yep, just trying to get a bit of history and a lot of entertainment. What is it about Irons? Can't figure out if I like him or if he creeps me out?

he creeps you out, he´s baaaaaaaaaaaad. I just watched a bit and when they abused those stormy powers (what I thought it was silly when they just said it) i just... NO, stupid.

Yeah, so "Queen Freckles" as I call her has magic storm creating, baby killing powers?
Ya know it *seems* like it would be great entertainment yet I am bored.
Yet some highlights: "The scene where the queen made one of her daughters strip her naked was wonderfully cruel ( and hey look boobs on the BBC!).
And the crazy, religious woman is very fun....she could've make a very neat Lysa Arynn is another dimension.
Khaleesi likes the show, so I will begrudgingly watch it with her...thank god it's only 10 eps!

Show is very bad, as bad as Irons, I think.
Yet, if I'm bored and there's nothing else to watch... I know I'll give in and keep watching. Because let's face it, I'm a sucker for beautiful costumes and James Frain. :shame: Though after the magical storm... ugh... Maybe I'll find some reserve of will power and stay away from it.

Yeah well they did get ridiculous with the "magik". Yeah it slow, yeah the script is all over the place.......I could go on. But guess what, I have watched thus far, so , as I am a sucker for the genre, I will stick it out......
Love it for the costumes! Love it for the sets!
The OLS likes the show too. I'm watching it... it's bad but I've seen worse.
It still has that "Made for TV viewing women between 45-60 feel that watch the Lifetime Network" feel to it for me. Wicgeek women incidentally are not normal for that category :)

Margaret Beaufort on the other hand is way too cray-cray. Just a little too much. Too much. That poor little Henry Tudor. Nothing good will come of him, I'm sure.

I really enjoyed this one ... I don't know why. But it was good !
They're actually doing pretty good to follow history too. I was complaining about all the little girls though, until I went back to Wikipedia and found out that she had two other daughters besides Elizabeth before Edward was born. So NOT BAD.
Also, the two teenage boys I saw someone complaining about somewhere... her <b>first</b> marriage...

Loved the Queen Mother on trial, that was awesome! She gets behind that Au Jus woman and is scot free (no offense, Al :giggle).
