That's excellent news! If they've cast Eliot Ness, Capone's story should be about that. I really hope we get to see snippets of the Chicago story. Maybe they've filmed in the city! I need to check that. Thanks Cosca.

Well, looks like the final season will be set during the Great Depression, which unfortunately means

HISTORICAL SPOILER:

No AR. cry

Yes, that is true but then again we'll get Luciano, Meyer and a mature Bugsy Siegel splitting his empire. Fully expect a flashback to show how AR met his death!

I'm a bit skeptical about these childhood flashbacks. I think they could turn out to be really heavy handed. Not to mention that it uses valuable time in an already much shortened season. Oh well. Still excited.

You should watch it anyway Jent. It's very good. The show hasn't really been building towards any ending, so there's not much riding on it. Each season is fairly self contained, and every finale so far would make a pretty good series finale.

You should totally watch it Jent! Do it!

It is quite a small miracle to say this but Cosca is completely right on this one (don't worry you, I still think Quentyn is an damn good character). The seasons could very well be stand-alones and the quality has not declined as it happens many times over the course of the seasons.

For me, BE has gotten better every season. Yes, even S3 with Gyps quirkiness. Fucking love Gyp.

freakout IT. IS. ON! freakout

I got to say I was surprised at EW giving favorable odds for Gillian making it out alive by the end of BE evileye

http://insidetv.ew.com/2014/09/05/boardwalk-empire-final-season-death-predictions/

I'd go with Nucky surviving

I liked some things. Didn't like others. I'm really not enjoying the flashbacks. I feel that they are unnecessary at this point, considering that we haven't learned anything new about Nuckys childhood. And Lucky has his droopy eye!!!!!

I didn't care for the first episode of the season. I understand that it's purpose was to update us on where all the characters are now, but I felt completely disengaged. I'm sure now that they've set the stage, the rest of the season will be awesome.

I thought it was OK, considering the time gap. Enjoyed seeing Lucky finally start coming into his own as a powerhouse. The coup to get rid of all the old bosses was nicely done. Wtf was up with the new bodyguard? Ninja moves. Lol

Totally felt the time gap! It's like sleeping for 7 years and waking up to find all your friends have moved on and you can't put together a coherent story because you are too shocked No doubt if I watch it again it would make sense all that talk with the Senator in Cuba. But some things never change (like Margaret playing dumb when she's has an ace up her sleeve, Luciano and Lansky plotting and Tampa Lady being all cool and relaxed). Not sure how I feel about the flashbacks. I was just thinking at Master Aemon's damn quote saying that when your end is near you tend to indulge in memories of the past! Nucky better not be dead by the end of the series, because I'm counting of him being alive

The senator can annul the Volstead Act, rendering alcohol legal, and Nucky is seizing the opportunity to own the rum trade.

I got part about the Bacardi Rum monopoly Nucky wanted for himself with the trade routes that he bragged about of having them. Also that he was suggesting of repealing the Volstead Act where the senator seems a bit skittish. I didn't understand how he'd make his own past go away though. There was something there between the Tampa Lady, the Senator and Nucky and afterwards between Patricia Arquette's character and Enoch, where he explains how he'd be clean as a whistle (?) I didn't understood a word of it. (I also had a Blue Moon too many yesterday afternoon and that always impairs my hearing and vision a bit)

EDIT: I'm watching it on HBOGO! Will return if understood. Also talk about the bodyguard ninja moves! What IS with that ear??? lol He still has it in his pocket?!

Absolutely! Two hits on two of their older counterparts at the same time? You betcha Ry. Besides Lucky and Mayer always worked together. They are trying to knock off the old regime. It's not like they haven't tried before to cut them off from the action.

Upon rewatch it seems like it may have been the Don who put the hit on Nucky. He gets weird when he asks Nucky about his bodyguard.

Don Salvatore Maranzano? Or Masseria? I must have missed that moment. I did notice what it escaped me the first time on the rewatch though. The Redstone, A! AR is reaching from his grave.

Yeah, but Lansky acted on his own. He wasn't there to whack him, so I was wrong. Gillian was crazy. Fucked up Caged Heat shit there. I love the guy playing the Commodore. And a brief shot of Prez as Ness. Yay.

I typed a whole damn comment for last nights ep. And I don't know what I did with it.

Summary of the comment: I loved the ep. Chalky was awesome. I liked Tampa Lady & Nucky convo, Holy crap Doc Narcisse is toast and there's some message there in the flashes but I can't figure it out. I loved the little Nucky and his crush scene. She seemed mean but would have kissed him I'm missing a couple of things, for sure.

Why DO you feel bad for Margaret?! She's the one who probably took all the money from the dead AR account.

I don't feel bad for Margaret. I love that she got caught with her hand in the cookie jar, and is finally dealing with people who see right through her "dumb blonde" act. And the Joe Kennedy/Nucky juxtaposition is surprisingly similar. Kennedy sees Nucky for exactly who and what he is. I like how they've portrayed Kennedy as the perfect power player who stays within the letter of the law while being a total crook. He's gone the route Nucky should have gone, based on who he was as a child. And I think that's the story the flashbacks are telling. How Nucky went from a good boy with upstanding values and principles to the man he ultimately becomes. I'm curious to see how Chalky's story unfolds.

Nucky is a director, Joe Kennedy is a producer. Nucky could have let others build his empire but he shot that right in the face in S2.

Little tidbit: Molly Parker (Alma Garrett/Ellsworth from Deadwood) played the adult Mabel Thompson, who was portrayed only in photographs. I would be amazing for her to have a cameo during the flashbacks. I love Molly Parker. Hairy pits and all.
