That's excellent news! If they've cast Eliot Ness, Capone's story should be about that. I really hope we get to see snippets of the Chicago story. Maybe they've filmed in the city! I need to check that. Thanks Cosca.
Yes, that is true but then again we'll get Luciano, Meyer and a mature Bugsy Siegel splitting his empire. Fully expect a flashback to show how AR met his death!
Crap! Al, I never thought real life happenings qualify as spoilers!!! Sorry about that. So we won't be talking about what happens with Capone in Chicago, then. Because I warn ya'll: I KNOW HOW THAT ENDS!!!!!
I'm a bit skeptical about these childhood flashbacks. I think they could turn out to be really heavy handed. Not to mention that it uses valuable time in an already much shortened season. Oh well. Still excited.

You should watch it anyway Jent. It's very good. The show hasn't really been building towards any ending, so there's not much riding on it. Each season is fairly self contained, and every finale so far would make a pretty good series finale.

It is quite a small miracle to say this but Cosca is completely right on this one (don't worry you, I still think Quentyn is an damn good character). The seasons could very well be stand-alones and the quality has not declined as it happens many times over the course of the seasons.
though because of the historical account. Because if he's getting killed what's to say they won't kill Al Capone?! I'm a damn historical account purist, I know
Well, that was interesting. Counted a lot of deaths for a first ep of the season.
Spoiler
Lansky is after Nucky and Luciano was after Joe. Bet they are in cahoots into this take them out thing.
Curious how Chalky got caught and for what. I mean out of the hundred reasons he could get caught for! Laughed at how the other inmate asked him if he knows how you could put a body's voice into a box like it was a life and death question. Obviously it was since he had a gun to his head.
The investment banker's question "What did I do last night?" Hah! I had about 10 answers to that. All of them involving tp a degree some of our beloved emoticons Instead it was about Mickey Mouse riding a :turtle: with the scene ending with a shot to the head. Um, that's just mean!
As for the next ep preview: I wonder if I saw correctly AR. Al Capone and Chicago will make an appearance too!

I liked some things. Didn't like others. I'm really not enjoying the flashbacks. I feel that they are unnecessary at this point, considering that we haven't learned anything new about Nuckys childhood. And Lucky has his droopy eye!!!!!

I didn't care for the first episode of the season. I understand that it's purpose was to update us on where all the characters are now, but I felt completely disengaged. I'm sure now that they've set the stage, the rest of the season will be awesome.
I thought it was OK, considering the time gap. Enjoyed seeing Lucky finally start coming into his own as a powerhouse. The coup to get rid of all the old bosses was nicely done. Wtf was up with the new bodyguard? Ninja moves. Lol

Totally felt the time gap! It's like sleeping for 7 years and waking up to find all your friends have moved on and you can't put together a coherent story because you are too shocked No doubt if I watch it again it would make sense all that talk with the Senator in Cuba. But some things never change (like Margaret playing dumb when she's has an ace up her sleeve, Luciano and Lansky plotting and Tampa Lady being all cool and relaxed). Not sure how I feel about the flashbacks. I was just thinking at Master Aemon's damn quote saying that when your end is near you tend to indulge in memories of the past! Nucky better not be dead by the end of the series, because I'm counting of him being alive
I got part about the Bacardi Rum monopoly Nucky wanted for himself with the trade routes that he bragged about of having them. Also that he was suggesting of repealing the Volstead Act where the senator seems a bit skittish. I didn't understand how he'd make his own past go away though. There was something there between the Tampa Lady, the Senator and Nucky and afterwards between Patricia Arquette's character and Enoch, where he explains how he'd be clean as a whistle (?) I didn't understood a word of it. (I also had a Blue Moon too many yesterday afternoon and that always impairs my hearing and vision a bit)
EDIT: I'm watching it on HBOGO! Will return if understood. Also talk about the bodyguard ninja moves! What IS with that ear??? lol He still has it in his pocket?!

Absolutely! Two hits on two of their older counterparts at the same time? You betcha Ry. Besides Lucky and Mayer always worked together. They are trying to knock off the old regime. It's not like they haven't tried before to cut them off from the action.
Don Salvatore Maranzano? Or Masseria? I must have missed that moment. I did notice what it escaped me the first time on the rewatch though. The Redstone, A! AR is reaching from his grave.
I'm putting it my comment in spoiler if anyone still hasn't seen it yet.
Spoiler
They so were in cahoots Not only that but they got Tonino involved too. And hello Eli! Chicago is tough. Capone is so volatile and Van Alden is still the same weird man as always.
Can't figure out what is with the bodyguard. He and Nucky were a riot with the "Si, yes or Si no?" (can't remember the exact phrase. The ear thing is a trademark and something important or they wouldn't be using that quite as much. I think. As for the flashbacks, I'm more confused than ever. No doubt it will be revealed all in good time.
Forgot to mention the mental institution scene. All kinds of messed up.
Also, I'd like to know if Maranzano really believed the crap Luciano pulled at that meeting. It was OBVIOUS he was lying his ass off. Plus he has to think that if Lucky could sell off his Don once, he could do it again. I know the historical account and what happens but honestly, he should have got the message (like Torrio said! )

Yeah, but Lansky acted on his own. He wasn't there to whack him, so I was wrong. Gillian was crazy. Fucked up Caged Heat shit there. I love the guy playing the Commodore. And a brief shot of Prez as Ness. Yay.

Should have taken the protection. Can Jeffrey Wright be any more perfect. And why do I feel bad for Margaret? FML. This was the. episode. So of course I loved it.

I typed a whole damn comment for last nights ep. And I don't know what I did with it.
Summary of the comment: I loved the ep. Chalky was awesome. I liked Tampa Lady & Nucky convo, Holy crap Doc Narcisse is toast and there's some message there in the flashes but I can't figure it out. I loved the little Nucky and his crush scene. She seemed mean but would have kissed him I'm missing a couple of things, for sure.
Why DO you feel bad for Margaret?! She's the one who probably took all the money from the dead AR account.
I don't feel bad for Margaret. I love that she got caught with her hand in the cookie jar, and is finally dealing with people who see right through her "dumb blonde" act. And the Joe Kennedy/Nucky juxtaposition is surprisingly similar. Kennedy sees Nucky for exactly who and what he is. I like how they've portrayed Kennedy as the perfect power player who stays within the letter of the law while being a total crook. He's gone the route Nucky should have gone, based on who he was as a child. And I think that's the story the flashbacks are telling. How Nucky went from a good boy with upstanding values and principles to the man he ultimately becomes. I'm curious to see how Chalky's story unfolds.
Little tidbit: Molly Parker (Alma Garrett/Ellsworth from Deadwood) played the adult Mabel Thompson, who was portrayed only in photographs. I would be amazing for her to have a cameo during the flashbacks. I love Molly Parker. Hairy pits and all.
