HBO are putting forward True Detective for best drama at the Emmys instead of best mini series. So basically they seem to have no interest in trying to acquire that award for GOT
I think that's a good move on their part, from past years it was obvious that award would never go to GoT (maybe unless it was the last season or something). TD was an instant hit, I have friends who almost never watch TV series at all and somehow they watched this - and loved it.
GoT won't win because the writing and directing are average at best. And its a silly fantasy. Silly fantasies don't win awards. They should turn the dragons into meth addicts or serial killers. Then they may win.

True Detective is a really special show, HBO should leave it as a one off instead of trying to capture lightning in a bottle twice. The acting was incredible, I have no doubt Mathew and Woody will clean up at the Emmy's along with the writer and producer. The finale was really satisfying and unsettling at the same time. Seeing Rust break down towards the end was a nice pay off for those who invested in the character. TD is definitely one of the most atmospheric shows I've ever watched. I don't know why but there's something really creepy and off about the deep south, all those swamps and peculiar accents make my skin crawl.
I still wouldn't proclaim it as the best show ever but it's early days yet. Certainly worth buying the Blu Ray.
The ending of episode 4 was awesome, just think if Sons of Anarchy was on HBO
"it's being said that HBO's engrossing Southern Gothic crime series pulled in around 11.9 million viewers per episode. Which makes it the most-watched first-year series in HBO’s history."
"beat out the previous champion Six Feet Under - which averaged 11.4 million per episode in its freshman season. And although Game of Thrones is HBO's most watched series of all time, True Detective's first season still beat GoT's first."
Well I 've just done it !
Spent the whole time worrying it was gonna scare the pants off me .. and at most, it was a little gross .. scruffy fat people doing it!
What the hell was that ending ? In stead of feeling fulfilled (Ry) I was very let down . I thought he was gonna get them all!
The only two bits I clapped hands at ( yes I do actually do that when I'm excited ) Was sniper attack and scar face's brain shot.
The whole bleeding heart bit at the end ... PLEASE!
Sorry guys, if I missed a deep and meaningful , poignant message but in truth I wish they gone more into the mystical side and told us about the reasoning behind the goings on and what did Rust see ? The galaxy thing ? Wut ? I'm just left with more questions ....
Apart from my whole last Ep. rant I have enjoyed the series as a whole and I admire both actors .

Same here Yvy, same here. The story telling was very good tho.

Latest rumour is that Colin Farrell is in deep talks to play one of the male leads. With Taylor Kitsch and Garret Hedlund being eyed for a younger role.
and rise with me forever
across the silent sand
and the stars will be your eyes
and the wind will be my hands
S2 intro won't top the first one. At first thought Colin Farrell made me shudder but I have heard great things about In Bruges from friends. Still concerned as the majority of his roles have been completely and absolutely fruitless.
he was great in In Bruges and he made me laugh in Horrible bosses. With a good director he should work just fine.

Well to be fair, 10 years ago Mcconaughey was doing silly stoner/romantic comedies. Don't let an actors slump color your impressions to quickly. We shall see.

Sorry but Colin sucks. Even in In Bruges where he just basically didn't act and just fucked around. That movie was all about the fat guy. But yes, said the same about Woody and Matthew so....

That's exactly my point, who could have bet on MCconaughey ? Certainly not me and now he has blown my mind (and underwear), so let's see, Farrel was good in the Malick's movie imo.

Yep, not impressed by the casting either. But if they keep their directors from S1, who knows.
[Season 2] will follow the death of Ben Caspar, the corrupt city manager of a fictional California city who's found brutally murdered amid a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal that would forever change freeway gridlock in the state. Three law enforcement officers from different cities and branches of the government are tasked with finding out who did it. They soon discover their investigation has much broader and darker implications than they initially thought.
What's more, Caspar may have been involved with the occult as his body is found with satanic symbols etched on his chest.
Vaughn's role would be "Frank Semyon"...
...a former thug-turned-businessman who's working with a local mayor and his political cohorts to spearhead the construction of a high-speed railway system that links Southern California to Northern California in order to reap financial gains from federal grants and land purchases.
Moss would play "Ani Bezzerides"...
...a tough, no-nonsense Monterey sheriff whose troubled upbringing has driven her to gambling and alcohol.
Farrell is still in talks to play "Ray Velcoro"...
...who has been damaged by years of turmoil in both his personal and professional lives.
Kitsch's role would be "Paul Woodrugh"...
...a handsome, 28-year-old military veteran who has seen his own share of violence and destruction.
Holy fucking shit. Vince Vaughn and Colin Farell in the same fucking show? WTF. Okay, waiting for one miracle is one thing. Two in the same show is fucking impossible. I hope they don't screw this season over bad casting choices.
