I would go full show apologist. Praise D&D!

But it was never about the show over the books, was it?! Not when it came to the show apologist issue and publishing TWoW. anyway, I'm hopeful.

TWOW will come out before or near season 6, most likely. But that's lame. The books could end in ten years or they may never end at all. GRRM shoukd be doing overtime rather than slacking off again.

Hopefully the show' sending will be satisfying, and I hope we get past the books as quick as possible so the changes won't piss us off (things like potentially cutting Arianne and LS).

Pfft Jentario, you sound detractorish! I'm not entirely sure they can write consistently good scripts based on Martin's ideas. Look if they'd be that good they'd make every ep that had show original storylines a hit. Bit they did not. We shall see.

I am strongly considering delaying watching any future seasons, I really don't want the series spoiled by D & D's impatient, shock & awe writing style. Sure George is to blame with his ridiculously slow writing methods but I'd rather wait for the novels than watch the series unfold on tv.

Good luck with that. GOT is a cultural phenomenon, unless the fad dies down soon you are going to get spoiled by the magazine rack at the check-out counter. You might as well watch and enjoy the show. Besides, there's a decent chance the books never get finished.

There's always that risk of spoilers. It's getting harder to avoid them in the media, especially on IGN which is a favorite site of mines.

However considering where Bran & Sansa are going in the show there's the risk of book spoilers.

I'm with Al on this one.  I lost my faith in D&D this season, so disappointed.

If they're insisting on sticking to the plan of seven seasons then things are going to be fast forwarded like crazy. I have my fingers crossed for the plan to change to eight. I think eight will be the maximum, worst case scenario season seven is split into two like The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Mad Men etc.

I definitely think two half seasons are on the table. They can dodge contract renegotiations and get more episodes. Also, they said 80 hours until they said 7 seasons, now they're saying 70 hours again. I think the plan has changed to 7 seasons being a definite but that they're checking out the possibility to split it into two 6-8 episode half seasons.

If they split it into two the last half needs to be 7

Will be interesting to see how the contract negotiations go, everyone's deals are up after season 6 right? I can imagine Kit and Emilia's agents will be pushing for significant rises considering they went straight into the show after drama school. HBO would of gotten a few of the cast on the cheap considering their status at the time.

I'm with you two! It's clear that it will be a very different story when told just on the skeleton of ideas. It's tough to stay unspoiled, but Al totally nailed it. As a book fan one takes the risk of actually spoiling the books. In the end it comes down to how you want the story delivered and by who.

We're not saying that he'll suddenly get a hear attack before releasing the last book at the age of 67, we're saying that at the age of 82 he'll begin writing the eighth book saying there are "no promises" that he won't need a ninth and then ten years later he'll die of old age in his bed having written around 100 pages.

We're not calling you old, GRRM. We're calling you fucking slow.

Well he doesn't  have an obligation to his fans it's true but what of his obligation to himself?  If he wants his legacy to be "the unfinished series ASoIaF" for whatever reason,  all very well then enjoy the trappings of your deserved fame and wealth GRRM and carry on writing half a page a day for a few days a month and trusting to a long life.

If he wants empathy and support from readers and his legacy to be "the triumphant conclusion of the series ASoIaF" then he could be a lot more forthcoming on his progress on the series instead of all this silence except to promote his all these side projects with have nothing to do with the books ( that bloody film theatre!), maybe it wouldn't get the books written any faster but we may feel rather less irritated by it.

As for people being on his back, well get real GRRM - people who work for other people get this shit all the time every day from their superiors or customers, and if we don't do things to deadlines or satisfaction we may lose our jobs. This is the living  that you chose while uncounted millions get grief every day doing shit jobs just trying to feed the monkey without being able to zip off and be feted once a month to LA or Rio or Paris etc.

Reading through the comments at that WIC article got me curious about something, and i want you guys to answer me this. As of this moment i'm pretty sure that the TV show has surpassed the books and will be finished before the final book is published, anybody here disagrees? why?

This is not the first time Martin has been forced to respond to angry fans desperate for the next book in his series. In 2009, before A Song of Ice and Fire was made into the hit HBO television show that has brought hordes of new readers to the books, his fans were clamouring for A Dance With Dragons. "Some of you are angry that I watch football during the fall … some of you hate my other projects … some of you don't want me attending conventions, teaching workshops, touring and doing promo, or visiting places like Spain and Portugal (last year) or Finland (this year). More wasting time, when I should be home working on A Dance with Dragons," wrote Martin. "After all, as some of you like to point out in your emails, I am 60 years old and fat, and you don't want me to 'pull a Robert Jordan' on you and deny you your book."

George RR Martin gives impatient readers the finger

I hadn't even heard of GRRM until 2010 so I didn't realise this was all déjà vu

Why can't he just try and give some positive spin, that is, despite appearances to the contrary, still working hard on and enjoying writing new material for the next book? Because he isn't maybe?

I feel for the fans who would rather wait for the books to know the ending than through the TV show and avoid at all cost any kind of spoilers, I fear that you have a long wait and in vain.

That new article at WIC is hilarious.
HBO is pretty much confirming that TWOW isn't close to being ready. They're saying that season 5 is fine because they're mostly doing book material but that season 6 will be a problem- so TWOW won't even be out by season 6!
It might end up being a 7-0 rather than a 7-1 at this pace.

The show isn't wholly bad though. It's mostly very good. Yes we won't get some things that we liked in the book like LS or Arianne but there's still Arya and Dany and Jon and Tyrion and dragons and White Walkers and STANNIS!!! and the upcoming battlea and developments (such as a scene in a pit). Don't give up entirely Ly, there's a lot to love even if there are a couple of things to hate

He probably doesn't want to mislead the fans the way he did before with Feast and Dance. That has been one of his mistakes, one that earned him the bashing he took from his detractors back in the day when we were all green and we believed! Well.. some of us at least, anyway :giggled:. I didn't mind waiting so much as his erroneous updates of his blog with promises that it will come out probably next year, when if fact it did not.

Because he can't. During the "fuck you" interview, Martin said his writing was slowing down, but he didn't know if it is because of his age or something else. For some reason, that nugget hasn't made as much a splash as his little tantrum. He looked and sounded tired. I don't like mopey George: it's not as much fun.

What he needs is an extended vacation at home. If he feels like writing TWOW, that's great. If not, who cares? Even douchebags need to rest.

Scatseography is a new frontier in divination. Were I to get my hands on the necessary materiel for a reading, it would go something like this:

Clear field: technological difficulties on the horizon, a task incomplete.

Streaky, light brown stain in the seat: Jets down one with seconds left, two point conversion fails. Beware correspondence from the East.

Aroma reminiscent of freshly cut grass, some crustiness in the fly area: Extended travel on the horizon, possibility of copping a cheap feel. Creative endeavor in peril.

Pale stain in the fly: you are getting enough fluid. Good on you.

Dark yellow stain with brownish red flecks: use a condom when you do it in the dirty. Lengthy stay away from home.

Full load of shit in the seat, extending through crotch up to the fly: Old friends played you false. Litigation in the offing.

Even if book 6 comes out before season 6, no way in SEVEN HELLS, he is finishing the final book before season 7!
My predicion: Book 6 comes out RIGHT before season 6 next year.
Show ends in 2017, book 7 comes out 3 years later...by a ghostwriter cuz grrm dies in a queso dip orgy with shae
