People are really freaking out about Stannis not turning up. I don't see what the problem is with it being next episode honestly. People are reacting as if he's not turning up at all.

Brienne and Pod... will meet Arya and the Hound and they will get into a fight, which probably leads to Brienne's infamous ear biting scene. I don't get it. Is the Hound THAT tasty that everyone wants to munch on him? Probably tastes like chicken.
Hopefully it's done well, at least. It seems really weird at this point.
EDIT: How do I spoiler tag?

But how can they get Arya from there to the ship in the same episode?
And what will happen to Brienne? Will she just say. "Oh, Arya's running away. Nevermind. I won't go get her." Also it seems weird since they set up the whole "gift of mercy" scene in episode 8.
Mwahaha It looks to me like Benioff and Weiss are going at a slower pace in some storylines than some would like. Battle split in two makes perfect sense from a book perspective but the hype was for one.
And Sandor/Brienne is a deviation from the books to make the storylines go longer for Arya & the Hound!
I think it is awesome they do that. Gives Martin even more time. If only they could beef up Bran's story too so they don't go into TWoW completely for next season.
Uh oh. D&D are doing a "no-no". This is a spoiler for the next episode (about a deviation from the books). Should I write it here?
Oh, come on! The "no-no" has been foreshadowed, Jentario!
Yeah, but they're already stretching reality with these surprise meet-ups and I can't see how the characters will get back on track with the books here without it ending up weird.

Hmm true but we don't know if they wanted that gift of mercy scene to foreshadow his presumed death. For all we know, they might have just used it as the "there is the heart" lesson, which she applied moments after.
Technically she could still get to the ship since the Vale has a port in Gulltown. But yeah, I can't predict how she'll escape. Maybe Brienne and the Hound get ambushed by the hill tribes while fighting? Dunno, but can't wait to see it. What's weird is that everything pointed to LS in the finale, and now it seems a bit out of place. Why would LS and the Brotherhood be in the Vale? There are no Freys to hang there.

After the initial surprise, I don't have a problem with it either. It's just weird because they had it in the promo for Ep.9.
Yes. But like in the book Pod saves Brienne from death. That will still happen.
What are you talking about Willis?!?!?
Gendry saves Brienne from the Biter when she fights Rorge and his crew at the Trident. Gendry! GENDRY his name rhymes with *whatever* (i'm not Martin).
That's because of the horrible Russian accent. Messed up your sarcasm.
@Mr. Storm: i felt like squeeing all over the place at the Randyll Tarly mention!!! Will we really get Maidenpool introduction though?! Oh, WHY?! WHY GET MY HOPES UP?!?!
Rhaegar, despite wounding Robert, was struck down with a massive blow from Robert's warhammer, which scattered the rubies encrusted in Rhaegar's armor under the water. Rhaegar died with Lyanna Stark's name on his lips.
Ok did D&D just bitchslapped all the book fundies screaming WHUR IS MY CHAIN?
And in this episode we get the GIANT FROZEN ICE CHAIN OF DEATH!!!
I squealed! yippie:
So that wasn't in the books, right? I do remember something about some ice falling from the top at some point, or was that something related to Styr's raiding party? Anyway, awesome moment. So much screentime for , my heart melted.
Sitting here laughing over Andy Greenwald's review (he didn't read the books) and this quote:
It was a relief that the battle of Castle Black didn’t culminate with a surprise rescue, perhaps from a recently enriched Stannis (the one person who seemed to take the ravens seriously at the end of last season) or a returned Benjen Stark (Ned’s brother who went a-ranging in Season 1 and was never seen again). In fact, it never really ended at all. What the valiant 102 (and falling!) brothers won for themselves was merely a breather, the chance to spend another day dreading the coming of the night.
Apart from his intuition, I'm amazed people still remember Benjen.
So my memory is fuzzy, did Mance only attack the castle black gate in the books? Or did he spread his troops and attack the other castles along the wall?

I think people remember Benjen because he's a Stark, and because we didn't see him die. After all this time, it's still a mystery what happened, so people believe he'll show up and do something amazing at some point.

Again D & D keep making decisions that baffle me, Pyp, Grenn Mance wtf? no Stannis
Considering the gargantuan ratings this show pulls in they should of fought harder for more screen time. The battle of the wall deserved to be at least an hour long if not more, I no there is restraints when it comes to time and budget but I find it hard to believe HBO's execs would of declined the requests had D & D explain just how epic the battle is.
Neil Marshall did a terrific job with the episode, the guy has earned an episode that doesn't revolve around a battle? Although I wouldn't complain if Neil was brought back for the battle of slavers bay.
at the 12 second mark, wait a second who is standing in front of the Hound?!?!?
Brienne, mayhaps? Otherwise, one of the House Arryn guards, I would imagine.

Upon reflection I think it probably was the wise decision to delay Stannis saving the day. The episode would of felt way too similar to Blackwater if he came in at the last moment to defeat the Wildlings.
I get that Pyp and Grenn's deaths were impactful but it still sucks to see them go. The wall isn't full of much likeable characters so to see them disappear is a loss for Jon's arc.
Anyone else have a feeling will be the one to stab Jon next season?
GET OUT. How can you saw an awful thing like that?!
That seems to be Brienne in the preview with the Hound. There's even a shot where she draws Oathkeeper, I think, and one of the Mountain falling down a slope.
