Nah Thorne is too predictable, or Locke for that matter. Having someone like Grenn do it makes more sense IMO, Jon's actions have become too radical even for his friends to follow.
His fate in the book won't necessarily match his Tv show one.
But I agree, having a friend stab him makes it more sad/dramatic.
I don't see why they'd keep Slynt around. His execution is a pivotal moment for Jon as Lord Commander. It's also another nod back to the pilot with his "father". Plus they've already allowed Robb and Theon an execution scene so it seems a bit unfair to cut it from Jon's arc.
The Slynt beheading was one of the three redeeming pages in ADWD, they will use that for sure. I'm also pretty sure they'll use a likely candidate like Thorne (wtf, Locke joins the Night's Watch or something?) for the betrayal, if it's one thing you can't accuse D&D of it's subtlety.

I do like TV Alliser, over book Alliser was a antagonistic shitheel, but the TV version is more of a hardass that simply has seen the Watch go to shit. His "you have not seen cold" monologue in season 1 was a standout.
Maybe I am just going easy on him since he is taking over the mantle of my Donal.

The scene with Jaime & Tyrion. Not exactly the one that happens later on in the underground. Does Jaime ask Tyrion again if he killed Joffrey and Tyrion says yes?
I completely loved the scene where Jaime sends Brienne off. And I totally went squeee when I saw Pod there as "Jaime's gift" because I apparently forgot about that.
I am totally okay with the changes where Bran and the Gang wind up at Craster's Keep, because the book Bran is just lots of boring following after boring following after more boring.
What the heck is up with Locke? I mean, I can totally watch more Noah Taylor. I'm gonna love hating Locke.
The scene with Margeary and Tommen. Pure creepy. And I had to say to the OLS. "Don't worry, there's not going to be any sex. I mean, I hope not..."
I like how they settled the Littlefinger/Olenna did it. But I'm sorry about all the unsullied who had to go through life with the sullied telling them OMG DIDN'T YOU SEE HOW THEY TOOK THE THING AND DID THE THING AND YOU MISSED THAT MILLISECOND BUT I CAN SPOIL YOU NOW BECAUSE THEY EXPECTED YOU CATCH IT BLAH BLAH BLAH BLAH. I'm sure BaS is mad about that. We totes have to be careful if it happens again.

Ok I know I must be in the minority but I fucking love Littlefinger. Locke was delicious, Tommen was perfect, Jaime and Brienne made me cry and Grey Worm and Missandei's scene at the beginning was probably one of the most tender and beautiful scenes this show has done so far. And just for the record, I KNEW IT! I knew that's how the Others multiply! I am so happy I wanna climb the walls.
And another nice bit that I just saw on a rewatch. There are 12 WW in the background, 13 with the punk dude.
The Last Hero left on his journey with 12 companions.
The Night's king was the 13th commander of the Night's Watch.
I don't know what all of this means.
From one of Old Nan's stories, supposedly he's the one that went looking for the children so that they could put a stop to the Long Night, when the WW came for the first time.
We kinda knew that D&D will have to start inventing stuff, I find it rather clever since Bran has NOTHING to do until he meet the 3EC.
Season 5 will have a crapload of this, book purists will flip their shit...but you know what, they can suck it.

Margaery wooing Tommen. How lucky is that kid? potentially popping his cherry with Anne Boleyn.
SER POUNCE !!!! SER POUNCE !!!! SER POUNCE !!!
Wight King/priest/demon plus their lair. All of it looked cool.
Cersei's drunken grief.
Dany's quest to end slavery and Mereen.
Jon Snow's Braveheart speech.
Locke double agent.
Cons
Littlefinger and Olenna's exposition. It was just so freaking on the nose, I am surprised neither pulled out a diagram and pie chart to explain it to us cause apparently we the viewers need it.
Olenna Tyrell sex god of Westeros..........really smh.
Margaery being completely oblivious to Olenna's plans. I really don't think she's as naive as D & D make her out to be.
Craster's Keep I didn't hate these scenes I just felt they could of been trimmed a little. Plus it looks like they were used to make up the T & A quota.
Grey Worm and Missandei............
Miscellaneous
Bran! As someone who is not a huge fan of his arc in the books I completely understand why they've got him involved with Craster's Keep. For me a lot of his chapters were a bore to read through and the lack of an on screen Coldhands means they needed to do something to keep the viewers interested and engaged with his journey. My guess is Bran wargs into Hodor and uses his giant strength to escape.
The Wight King. As much as I bash D & D I highly doubt they would of shot this scene without George's blessing. I mean how likely are we to catch a glimpse into this ritual in the books? George relies on POV chapters and the only person who might be able to witness this ritual and the King is Bran. Again like Bran's added scenes it's another way to keep the audience aware and engaged into the Wight Walker threat. I don't have much of an issue with it as long as George gave his BLESSING!
Overall another solid episode.

I think the Locke guy is really good. I am quite blown away. Bolton sending him up North was a wonderful idea IMO. Just so we get more intrigue than if we'd had Vargo Hoat. I bet he's delivering Jon's Snow's death stab. Oh, shut up! Lord Snow died as far as I'm concered.. I'm expecting the kiss of life.

D & D sure do love telegraphing maneuvers so it's probably likely that a heel lands the final blow. Still I'll be crossing my fingers and toes for Grenn or Pyp to do it until that moment airs on tv.
I think the fact that they mention a "choosing" ahead of time and that they even say to Ser Alliser that most of the brothers like Jon Snow better is a little bit of foreshadowing for the Unsullied. Bet also that Sam won't have such a huge hand in his choosing.
Have you seen next weeks trailer ? Arya and the Hound WTF ?
To be honest I didn't like all the changes ... I didn't think I was a book purist, but I find I spend all my time going "Well that's not right" So I loose enjoyment .... which makes me sad. I really must try and see it just as the show... I hate the Dire wolves being trapped ... this really bothers me ! ! I hated the Craster's keep bit , all the raping going on around Karl talking ... Urgh! How many times can you put Cunt in one sentence ! Ha ha! I mean he's good actor but I found that a bit droney .And hitting little Bran! TWATS!
Loved Brienne and Jaime .. I filled up a bit and Pod's little face ... "Ser" Ha ha!
I love LF . The WW 's at the end was stunning , the crying baby was starting to upset me though ... (think I'm hormonal)
Tommen and Marge.. if we try and remember she is playing a much younger person than the actress is , it's not so creepy , but "Our little secret " was very near to the nuckle ...
Oh I dunno , I'm just not loving this as much as I used too... oh yeah and Hated the grey worm scene at the beginning. I didn't like these characters and still don't , stop trying to stretch them . Seven Hells , I'm in a foul one aye !
There were quite a lot of them Targaryan boys at the time! I was looking to see if there's a mention of which one, but I got nothing. It could be any one of Aegon's sons or his brothers' sons. I don't think it was Aegon or Aemon though. Both were in their late 50's, early 60's when Olenna (at 21 yrs of age) married Luthor. Aemon was already in NW and Aegon was married and a king. She'd have said I almost married the king, in my opinion. Not one to let such an opportunity pass her, I think.

I thought the same thing. I think it's brilliant though. Looming Vargo made me feel like a 5 year old in a panto shouting to the screen "Look he's behind you! Dont trust him Jon!"

I really do hope Bran and Jon don't bump into each other, that would just be taking liberties on D & D's part. Bran will warg them free just before Jon and the brothers arrive! if that doesn't happen I will hunt D & D down and lock them up in Linda's dungeon!

But But But But Jon can see Bran, they can hug and "they killed everyone, but we have each other!" And then go on their separate ways.
I'm a big softie, what can I say.
Arya is also going to the Eyrie, what if if if if if she meets Sansa when she arrives? And and and.....
Gah, don't mind me.

Yeah something will happen, for sure. The brawl in the inn that injured the hound in the book has been moved up, so something else has to be the cause of him becoming deathly injured and Arya going her own way.
