Why do you think we won't see Varys anymore? Surely he will be there during the Cersei vs Margaery shenanigans.
Well doesn't Varys go into hiding when he helps Tyrion escape/kill Tywin? We don't see Varys again until the end of ADWD. Of course D & D aren't fans of keeping characters off screen (cough Theon) so we may indeed see him in season 5.
Ah true, forgot about that. Man, King's landing will be gutted of characters after this season. No Tyrion, No Tywin, No Viper...what will happen to Bronn I wonder? He kinda evaporates in the book, rumors says that he might follow Tyrion to Pentos, but I doubt it.

At first I thought Bronn would accompany Tyrion in Essos but now it looks likely he'll join Jaime's journey to Riverrun. He's already taken over Ilyn Payne's role so it makes sense. Eitherway I am pretty confident Bronn won't be settling down in Castle Stokworth to make babies
I wonder if Kevan Lannister and Lancel will return next season? Kev has been absent since S1 and Lancel since S2.
I am a bit anxious about the new mountain, I am glad they found a guy that closely resembles Conan from S1, but the new guy has no acting or stunt experience. S2 Gregor was a bit of a letdown, but one thing that did work was his great voice, maybe they will dub S4 Gregor since the dude has a thick Icelandic accent.
We shall see.

Honestly it won't really matter cause it's not like The Mountain is going to be around for that much longer. Pedro will carry the actor in the duel.
Oh, boy! My crush on Aidan Gillen has just reached gigantic proportions! LOL
I simply cannot imagine anyone else now as Petyr. How creepy can he be? But he was totally telling the truth. It was always Cat.
Brienne knows about Arya! Well that's definitely not in the books. My guess is Pod and her are moving towards Erie.
Oberyn & Tyrion! I'm so happy we are getting his backstory that the books had when he met Tyrion at the city gates. I simply loved how the writers gave it the dramatic tone. Books had it as funny story, witty banter. I thought that was the only way they could do it. Apparently context is everything not bad. Not what I will remember 10 yrs from now sure, but good.
Jamie and Bronn not coming to Tyrion's defense as champions yet preserving the dignity and integrity of the relationship with the Imp, was well done. I really like Bronn and I never particularly did in the books.
And they finally got a shot of Daario's butt there!!! YAY for the women. But how is it fair that we saw Mel's boobs and butt for a good one min but Daario's was what??? 4 seconds. I vote for equal gender-gratuitous-nudity! A mouthful, I know.. but you get what I'm saying, right?
Oh, not in the books either but nicely done: Dany sends Daario with Hizdar zo Loraq to retake Meereen. That should be entertaining.
Give it up for Rory, damn, he did some good acting tonight, IMHO. Loved to see Hot Pie again, and who knew Pod had a brain along with, er, um, well, you know:) Sansa was beautiful looking out in the snow, missing home, jeez. Then, little Lord Titboy shows up and ruins her perfect Winterfell, ugh. Nice slap. Second fav next to Joffrey/Tyrion. Scene with Tyrion/Bronn, went over much better than the book there. Missed Only Cat, but hey, I get that one. Great episode.

The Hotpie scene was a complete invention, but it was one of my faves this episode.
A nice callback to his ugly direwolf bread and damn how awesome is it that Brienne and Pod are using their heads and not like the book where they went on a wild goose chase.
So am I correct? Both Arya and Brienne are heading towards the Eyrie? The plot thickens!

I think someone mentioned on the S3 DVD commentaries that Ned Stark is mentioned in every episode still, and that seems to have carried over this season. Way to go Neddy!
Wonder if Sean Bean gets a dollar everytime that happens.

In the last episode as they were discussing Dany at the small council, Tywin asked if Varys had a "raven express" that went to Meereen.
He made Mace fetch a quill and paper, so I assume he is either gonna: tattle on Jorah for being a spy or maybe start conspiring with the masters to start the insurgency.
I think the first one makes more sense, as it will feed of the last Dany/Jorah scene.

But Dany already knows he was spying for them in the series. It's already been put forth. I mean, is he *still* spying on her and lied about it? That would make sense.

No, I distinctly recall something about when they first meet up with Arstan... cough Barristan. Of course, Barristan has that on him anyway. Ah well, I may be confusing scenes.

Had the Kindle right next to me. In Game Ned remembers Jorah when he talks to Robert. Jorah fled Bear Islands before he got there with Ice to deliver justice. Says he dishonored the North.
Ry, in the series, I think that at one point the Night's Watch is mentioned as an alternative punishment. I could be wrong. And Jorah instead of taking the black goes into exile. Not sure though. As for the books, Martin's writing is perfectly fine. LOL no contradiction there.
Also: cannot hear Pedro's fake accent. Bet it's better than your Russian fake one
Brienne's now not going to face Rorge and Biter next season wtf, and she now knows about Arya smh. The Hound is now a compassionate man who puts people out of their misery, erm ok.
These last couple episodes have been inconsistent, they hit the pivotal book moments out of the park but flounder and make the quality of the show dip with the made up filler nonsense.
I was glad to see Oberyn's tale of Cersei pinching baby Tyrion's cock made it into the show. Both Dinklage and Pedro were great in that scene.
So they are going to go ahead with Bronn's arc of marrying Lolly, of all the book stuff D & D decided to change they opt not to alter Bronn's arc ugh give me strength.
Melisandre's bath scene, pointless other than ticking the T & A quota.
I can't tell if Aiden Gillen has gotten better or if I've just adapted to his weird post S1 Littlefinger.
It's a good thing the show is going on a brief hiatus because I am beginning to get disillusioned with the show.
They might as well dispose of the title sequence because it's a mess now. We didn't even visit The Dreadfort or Bravos and there's still no sign of the Eyrie, but we must include Winterfell each time even though we've not visited that location since the S2 finale.
Brienne's now not going to face Rorge and Biter next season wtf, and she now knows about Arya smh.
I was wondering about that! So the Hound killed Biter, Arya killed Rorge. That makes the Brienne vs the Trident Bloody Mummers impossible. I also doubt she's going to do the whole Crackclaw Point thing so Pyg, Timeon and Shagwell vs Brienne & Pod are out. That only leaves from the Brienne book chapters Maidenpool where she gets Randyll Tarly and Quiet Isle with septon Maribald on the way. I doubt we'll see the Quiet Isle but maybe we still get the Maidenpool?! I don't know.. At this point it looks like they go straight to Erie.
If they do meet BWB with UnCat would it be on their way back? before they get to meet up with Sandor and Arya? Because it looks very much like they will...
Brienne's arc from AFFC was already sparse of tv material and yet they erase one of her action sequences, it makes no sense other than to please fans of The Hound and Arya tag team.
Honestly D & D perplex me. We never got Arya's amazing scene with the Tickler from ASOS but we get to see her kill Rorge with a quick stab to the heart
Al, it really looks like they gave Arya and Sandor, Roger and Biter so technically Brienne should meet if not Arya and Sandor at least Sandor. I would see Arya going on to Braavos leaving the Hound behind like in the books but instead of the Hound disappearing into the void we get to see Brienne fighting him and kill him (?). That's if the Hound really is dead in the books. Who knows. Mine is total crackpot at this point.
I think Bree and Pod are gonna run into Arya and the hound...bad things will happen.
Not necessarily by those guys interacting directly, the bounty on the hound will bring more
people that will stir up trouble. How they all will end up where we think they should is up in the air.

The reason that they're cutting out Brienne's action scenes by killing Rorge and Biter, is that she isn't going to have an arc next season, unless they use TWOW stuff. They're cutting basically all her material. She'll meet Lady Stoneheart in the finale.

To me, this was probably my favourite episode so far this season. There was no spectacular scenes, but I liked every single one of them. The ones from the book, the additions, the acting, the directing (minus the fall through the moon door, but I think that must be pretty hard to film) and particularly the cell scenes. I even liked the Dany stuff! (and no, not just because Huimann's butt mind you). The conversation she has with Jorah was very entretaining and even if Emilia can't act, Glen's puffed chest was so funny and sweet to see it made up for it.
I don't think Mel's scene was just about the T+A quota, though come on! Some equal nudity time is required here. Anyways, I think it really showed the dynamics of the Mel/Selyse relationship, it lets us see Mel as in the book we only see her by ADWD, with all her bag of tricks, and it worries the hell outta me cause they seem to be adding fuel to the theories that wether to burn or not to burn Shireen is to be Stannis' decisive trial.
The most forgettable scene is Jon-is-a-better-commander-than-Alliser. But even that one, even if fairly redundant, I suppose serve the purpose to remind viewers the wildlings ARE coming, SOON, from both sides. Filler, but I guess they want to keep it fresh in the mind of viewers. Plus Ghost sighting, I'm a sucker for those .
Sansa + Petyr was suitably creepy, sassy Brienne was a joy and Hot Pie is the best surprise I had as a reader all season. I started clapping my hands when I saw him, and the beautiful direwolf pie he made, such a sweet touch. The Arya and the Hound scenes where also very good (minus the philosophical arya part) and added warmth and insight into their (tv) caracters. It was so painful when the Hound said "i didn't steal it, was just playing with it". Brilliant. And them killing Rorge and Biter, I dont mind, it helps streamlining Brienne's story, that as many pointed out before, I think it's heading to LS in the finale. If that's the case, I'm hopeful we might get the TWOW resolution of that particular knot by S5 finale. (which i believe is gonna involve her dieing ).
But the reason why this was my favourite episode this season is those 3 interviews in the cell. They're beautifully scripted, masterfully acted, and artfully directed. The actors nail each and every single shot (even if Pascal's over the top fake accent has annoyed me all season but despite that, he was perfect in this scene). And Dinklage... he's done his best acting since... hell, I don't know. But in a long time. It was a real pleasure to see. And I know I'm thoroughly unqualified in this forum to speak about the direction but I was enthralled by how 3 extremely similar scenes in the same dark, confined space, don't feel stale or stagnant. Not even repetitive. And the way the light plays a role in each of them almost like a third character in the room!!!
I give the episode and the goes entirely to Mr. Dinklage.

Just wanted to say I agree with everything you said in your post, Tirvy. Every little line, it's creepy. Well, maybe except Pedro's accent, maybe I like it because I don't come in contact with Spanish that often, so to me it doesn't sound forced.
Also wanted to ask this. Who the fuck is Rorge, Biter, Nimble Dick, Polliver and The Tickler and did I miss any other random criminal douchebag from the Riverlands? Honestly, all these people to me are basically one character, they're *that* one-dimensional in the books. I don't even remember who showed up in who's arc. Might as well kill everybody now so I don't have to suffer them later. If they make up new scenes and characters for Brienne in the future, good for them. I never complained about Brienne's chapters in AFfC because I liked to see the ravaged world we get to witness after the war, but they already did that very well in S4. Make room for more interesting stuff, I say.
Who the hell is going to take the fall for Lysa's death since D & D botched Marillion? "My lords, Lady Lysa was so overcome with lust and emotion at the sight of my beauty that she tripped on her gown and fell down the moon door."
I wondered that myself. I am really interested to see if we have the Lords Declarant, although not for Marillion obviously, but to discuss the demise of Lysa. Also, mayhaps to see who will raise Robert (Robin) as their "ward" and/or if Bronze Yohn becomes another cool, new character.
