I finished watching Star Wars (the movies ) and now I am on a Spartacus binge. I missed that show something fierce. Gods of the Arena. Two eps in. Gannicus still rocks my world.
Rhaegar, despite wounding Robert, was struck down with a massive blow from Robert's warhammer, which scattered the rubies encrusted in Rhaegar's armor under the water. Rhaegar died with Lyanna Stark's name on his lips.
Someone said "you might like this show". Damn right that chicken. "Happy Valley". Imma start with the titles song because it´s gooooood, little british guy Jake Bugg with a song that sounds beautifully old: Trouble town.
Spoiler
"Stuck in speed bump city where the only thing that´s pretty is the thought of getting out", that says the song and boy is true. Little hell of a town that´s not so different from any town.
So there´s the great song and there´s the acting that´s not actually a surprise because the british have great actors all around, from the first to the last most of the times and this show is no exception and looky, the main character, Catherine, is Sara Lancashire who´s really Miss Audrey from The Paradise (for you girls that watched) and then we have O´fucking Brien from Dowtown Abbey (you won´t believe it tho). I have no words for Sara Lancashire in this role, her performance is so subtle is unbelievable. Genius and demanding acting. The rest are all great too. Needed till episode 6, (the last one), to realize who Dany was, was all the time thinking "looks like Gendry´s brother with weird hair" but no, was Karl Davies = Alton Lannister from GoT. Ok, I will bitch anyway, just a bit because the writing is really good till episode 6 (maybe 5) but later there´s some plot holes and obvious results and repetitions and blahblah but really, is forgivable. It´s like the writer couldnt stop, got trapped. It´s a fat script with great complex characters, world building, morals, etc. Writer and creator is Sally Wainwright and I love this woman since she adapted "The taming of the shrew" for the BBC´s Shakespeare re-told. If you didn´t watch, do it because it´s hilarious.
For a moment reminded me of The Wire for the complexity, tho this story is very small in comparison, of course but there´s something similar in the politics of it all, the morals... yes, it´s a bit pretentious, who cares. I watched Jurassic shark too so i`m balanced. If I remember correctly one of the things I loved about the The Wire was how Simon talked shit about hierarchies, they were all stupid and corrupt and vicious. The same happens here and it´s really great. This is not the classic british police story and Catherine is not a classic copper but she´s a hero and you will instantly love her. She´s such a a big mule, sometimes you think that´s the only thing that keeps her going. That´s one of the themes in this show, (few) people trying to be as good as they can. Gotta love them. Even O´Brien!
I`m not saying the show is fucking depressing, bleak and gritty and I loved almost every minute of the first 4 episodes. And there´s sisters and I love stories about sisters. But there´s so many good story lines here, about morals, education vs DNA, crime and ignorance, sociopathies, idk, just don´t listen to me yapping, watch!
I´ll probably edit this to make some sense but now I can´t!

Peaky Blinders is back??
That's great news! Though all throughout watching i couldn't stop thinking how much more I would like it if they'd cast Rory McCann instead of Cillian Murphy, and replacing them in my head .

Well... I'm just not a fan of him there. At all. He's... too much of a slippery cold fish for what I think the character is trying to be. I need someone capable of making me believe he acts like he's past everything because he's blocking his feelings and the harrowing past that haunts him, and also someone with a more imposing physical presence so that I can buy he's so feared and respected in that world/environs. I can buy Murphy as a criminal mastermind, but not as someone out there in the neighbourhood physically punching his way through as well.
Now, granted, I never liked Murphy much so maybe I'm biased. Or maybe I'm reading all wrong what the character was supposed to transmit. Wouldn't be the first time.

No, I don´t think you are wrong about the character. I´ll just add his resentment.
He is most of the time the criminal mastermind but Murphy being a small guy makes it better for me. You know, petisos have to compensate
I loved the scene at the club with his brothers, where they literally

punched their way through the whole thing
... you´ll hate it!

Watching these days Wallander on Netflix. Kenneth Branagh and Tom Hiddleston. LOVE IT. Not the first time I'm watching some eps either. So wonderfully depressing.

I knew someone else liked Wallander! I thought it was Tir. Not so far off Still ARG.
First time I hear of Peaky Blinders. But I like Tom Hardy and well.. I'm missing Locke! Go figure.
FX then. I thought most go to other HBO shows. Either way Justified is going out with a bang just like Broadwalk it seems.
EDIT: I stand corrected! A lot of them went to CSI or Law & Order (different variations) in some guest roles. Jim Beaver, W. Earl Brown, Anna Gunn, John Hawkes, Paula Malcomson and others. I never watched those. It looks like it's my loss.

Watched the first episode of The Affair with Mc Nulty, pretty enjoyable according to me and totally depressing wich is my cup of tea.
Watched too, Asha and liked it, mostly because of the acting. I mean, Mc Nulty and Alice (from Luther), that´s quite a couple. I enjoy depressing too but although the double pov is interesting, I don´t think they can take this too far, to me. Second episode was repetitive not interesting, I think. But great characters all around.
The way he sees her makes me laugh tho, all the sexy glares and all that... Makes you think you know, they all see the same when looking at us? Suckers.

Thanks Andrea for the Peaky Blinders! I'm hooked. Cillian Murphy is killing it. Had no idea Netflix is into doing such series. I binged watched until ep 5 season 1 so far. I love the Kimber/ The copper/ Shelby clan triangle power fight over the races and guns. Didn't see yet Noah Taylor or Tom Brady.

You are welcome! I loved everything about season 1 and doing it about season 2 (where you´ll see Noah Taylor and Tom Brady!).
The script and the acting is great but cinematography and music are amazing too. It´s a great show, glad you liking it.

yes! Peaky Blinders has a killer soundtrack! They have a shitload of The White Stripes! Never heard any Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds before, but it got me at Abattoir Blues. And the camera work is pretty incredible, I agree. All those fade outs and lighting tricks work in the story's favor. I particularly liked the love scene they filmed in last night's ep. So lyrical and however cheesy it may sound: magical.

I think the double pov is a brilliant stuff to deal with in a serie (it dosesn't seem to me that it has already been done for a tv show, TD hasn't had the same structure), i discovered that the guy who wrote the script also wrote the initial In treatment serie and i find there was a flavor of this in The Affair.
And god yes the contrast between the two interpretations of the story is really clever and fun. While the broken Alison sees that man as a way to escape from her grief and bitterness , he sees her as a real Jezabel, a middle life fantasy.
I agree with you for the second episode, really less strong and hooking, and for the actors' performances (plus, it's great to see West in an important part, he plays the goofy and clumsy husband with skills).

nice pic. Sowy, Tom Hardy that is. You just want to make me look stupid, it makes you happy
TW, I´m so happy you like Nick Cave and there´s also PJ Harvey songs in almost every episode I think. Those two are among my favorite singers.
So, episode 4. Almost perfect if perfection exists. All of it, even Jurassic Neil. Every little scene, every big scene, every dialogue. So many layers of story, so rich and so simple at the same time. Señor, señor. I loved it like with Tremé or The Wire kinda love. Or more. There´s this scene with Jurassic Neil, the fenians and Thomas. It´s so freaking good, the acting, the directing. Made me cheer! Forget Tom Hardy and Noah Taylor, they have nothing against all the other actors, especially Murphy and Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby).
Well, maybe there is one scene that´s not perfect. One.
And when I thought nothing could make me love this episode more, Polly started singing "Is this desire"... how many songs are so well sung like this one. Her singing is sexy, deep and dramatic.
Spoiler
This show should be way more popular than most.

I'm on it Andrea! I got up to S2 ep3, that's last week's I think! I can't tell you how I hate that Sabini guy. I mean what a piece of shit. (Noah Taylor! hate him every time) I cannot believe Polly's story. Her son blends in waaaay too much. I don't know if I believe it. Polly made sandwiches though And they all ate them. Also Thomas Shelby might not have the school but he sure has the smarts. Invest in real estate and put them on your relative's names God, some things never change...
Arthur is a bomb ready to explode. It is such a tragic character and that bastard of a father did a number on him worse than anyone could have. I know that actor too. I think it is an American one and I simply loved how EVIL he was back in season 1. I kind of hoped he'd fall under the train before he left Birmingham. He literally broke his older son into small little pieces, and I don't think anyone will put them together again right. Anyway, if I talk about Arthur, I'll be at it for another half hour.
Loved it, not as much as episode 4 but I don`t have good reasons for that except that it surprised me a bit at first. So much was resolved with little dialogue, I love that about this show. But Thomas´ scenes with women have a lot of good dialogue too... I do think he should stop predicting what´s going to happen because it happens anyway and we know they know. What.
For the things that happened I believed this was going to be really bad for Tommy. I guess I wanted to see him doubt a bit. Wait, I really want to see him doubt once. Would make him less of a genius. I´d like that I think.
Oh the music: PJ singing To bring you my love and suddenly the melancholic and heavenly voice of Anna Ternheim... I thought, but it was not her but Laura Marling singing "What he wrote", a beautiful song I didn´t know.
Spoiler
I will miss this show more than I did when season 1 finished.

Current episode of Resurrection. Some lame plot developments. But Michelle Fairley... [got spoiler ahead]
Spoiler
She must be really resentful over not playing Lady Stoneheart, because she is making up for it by playing one badass bitch and angry mother back from the dead on Resurrection.

I started watching Peaky Blinders this week, and I'm loving it! It's a little too clean in some ways, but the feel of it is perfect. I'm enjoying it, and I'm sad it's only six episodes. What I want to know (*ahem* Yvy) is whether the Birmingham accent is right. It's so borderline Irish. It would be fascinating to know how accurate the depiction is.

I haven't seen the show yet, recorded series 1 & 2 for a binge watching but I know some people thought the accent was more "Black Country" ( which is where Black Sabbath hail from, if you've heard Ozzy Osbourne speak) than Brum - there's not much distance between say Wolverhampton and Birmingham but the accent is distinct. I'll give my POV after I've seen it!

I'm taking my words back. The last two eps of Peaky Blinders were the SHIT when it came to the soundtrack. I got All My Tears (and I was never a Gospel girl), What he wrote - Laura Marling! (OMG!) and the final soundtrack song when Tommy drinks with Michael. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!

Did you see the finale? Because I'd love to see what you think of his carefully laid plans
Borgia season 3 is on Netflix (aka EuroBorgia). This is by far the best of the shows about the Borgias, and Tom Fontana is doing an awesome job. And the acting is still awful but the sets are wonderful. And Rodrigo/Pope Alexander is so much better on this show than the other. And Lucrezia is still hysterical to watch her awfulness. Even if her accent is getting a tad better.

For my Peaky Blinders peeps, I paused it for a while so I'm only at S2 Ep2, but just wanted to say.....holy smokes. Tom Hardy is the shit. When did this guy get *this* good?
