Finally saw the last eps of Strange and Norell. I feel like I'm left with nothing now Looked to see if they would renew it but it doesn't look like they've decided yet. Cannot imagine they'd leave it like that, up in the air though. Anyone watched Poldark? Looks like I'm on to BBC nowdays...
Strange and Norell was amazing yes, but it's a standalone book so I don't expect the BBC doing another series. I forgot if the ending is the same though.
Scratch that, Wiki says "In 2004, Clarke announced that she was working on a book that begins a few years after Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell ends. It is intended to centre on characters such as Childermass and Vinculus who, as Clarke says, are "a bit lower down the social scale"." doesn't that sound familiar.
Whenever you're in the mood for a short, smart and fun Brit sitcom, I can't recommend this enough: Rev.
I caught it yesterday on our local BBC channel and I was just amazed at the cast they managed to assemble. Tom Hollander is wonderful in just about any part I've seen him in, and it was so nice to see Olivia Colman doing some comedy. Hugh Bonneville showed up in what seemed like a recurring part (this man was born for comedy, not freaking Downton Abbey, ugh) and even Ralph Fiennes was there guest starring in a short, sweet sequence. Kinda like this one, with Liam Neeson as...well, God.
Watching Legends with Sean Bean on Netflix. Classic undercover spy stuff, a bit of a Bourne Identity mix into it. I'm enjoying it so far. Sean is really good even though the series plot is overdone and writing is definitely nothing out of ordinary.
I tried to see where I can watch Rev, Macha but couldn't find it through regular channels. Maybe soon on Netflix. Fingers crossed because I googled it, read about it and watched some clips. I think I'd enjoy it.
Everyone needs to watch Rome! I still think James Purfoy, Ciran Hinds, Ray Stevenson and Kevin McKidd was an unimaginable stroke of Luck for Nina Gold. And the ladies as well though to my shame I still don't know all THEIR names. (Polly Walker & Indira Varma!) I'm at Egeria ep 6 season 1 since Saturday. Script is raw and pretty incredible. Acting off the charts and costume, camera and sound just as good as I first saw it. Or when I re-watched it a second time. Or the third. I may have watched it a fourth time as well

Done with the first season of Rome! I can't believe it still holds up. I don't feel the need to watch the second though because it's not as good as the first. A big rushed. Thanks Macha for Rev
Ok, was watching a new War and peace BBC adaptation. Formally not the best, you wouldn´t believe you can rush Tolstoi but they did and a lot. It shows mostly in first episode where usually great actors were a mess. If you read War and peace or whatever other russian novel you know it´s all about character development in most cases, and this novel is probably the main example of that. Still this show is really fast paced and it´s a pity. And there´s some other stuff I really don´t like but I guess after GoT success everyone thinks they need to do sexy and perv tv....BUT! Paul Dano and Jim Broadbent make my life really happy. I know I said this about Broadbent before but you should know he really is some god. If you feel like it take a look but be patient because things get better in episode 3. We´ll see what happens next.

Sooooooooo about that show... things didn´t get better in episode 3 and I just read is only 6 episodes. I`m puzzled. Always liked, even loved some his adaptations for the BBC, but man, this one is crazy. Read an interview he did for the BBC and had to laugh when he realized Tolstoi was not a bore. Wow, time to stop re reading Dickens and start with russian literature!

And it´s great, once again. All these actors, the filming, the story. I love this show very very much. Why is not famous escapes me.

I have never read war and peace . . Therefore , I really loved this 😊 but funnily enough I felt the final realisation of love was very rushed ! Loved all the costume , set and music and the actors . But the main character was fantastic at making me love him . 💜
I have watched Hap and Leonard this week. I don't know anything about ratings and stuff for Sundance channel but I haven't seen anything I liked quite as well as this since Justified premiered.

I think Hap & Leonard might be my fave new series. I am watching also the The Inspector Montalbano. I only saw the first season but it's pretty good. Good script and acting, and they seem to follow the Andrea Camilleri's giallos pretty to the letter so far. I'm pleased.

Andrea! I missed your post. Happy Valley 2 is out already? It goes on my list.
Sorry, I always post here instead of opening a thread. This season the plot looks a bit nuts at the beginning but she is so awesome that I don´t care. She´s probably the best character of all characters. And the acting is so goooood, all of them

Finished . This show, this character, this kind woman. Magnificent simple tragicomic scenes. Great dialogues. Looks like it can keep going. Please do. I freaking love it. And Sara Lancashire should win all the awards. She´s unique and wonderful. They all are but her character is bigger than life.
There´s a scene with Mr something something from Downton Abbey, forgot his name. It´s a gem.

Mr. Moseley! that one! He so good too.

Moaning Myrtle and Neville Longbottom have truly grown up but I think they are both trouble. The first ep ending She's a total creep. Do we know how she hooked up with Tommy Lee Royce? I cannot remember if we got that in first ep. Looks like she's in Happy Valley to do his bidding. And the postal girlfriend with the pics is a woman scorned. It won't end well that story with Vicky from forensics!
the copper will get away with it, but Ann gave the clue into who's the latest victim. The irony of murdering his lover so he can stay with his wife that was cheating herself with someone else! He is sick.

The actress that plays Moaning Myrtle is older than I am! I couldn't believe it when I read it on IMDB. She's 50!

Cary, I couldn't believe it. She doesn't look 50. But even in the series they her character is 45
So I binged watched the last 3 eps yesterday and I must say I got depressed to see who the serial killer was and listen about the mom's story. Everyone's life was fucked from the get go Tommy Lee Royce is going to haunt our heroine for the next season? Not impossible. The guy is really resourceful
I don´t know about you guys but I actually think this season´s script was bit all over the place and idk, insecure. Like with Shirley Henderson´s character, Frances. I was really worried at the beginning and thought it was too weird for the show but then nothing happens and at the end it´s like they remembered what kind of show this is so it was pathetic but it wasn´t as crazy as it seemed. Right?
Also bit wonky the whole Soprano-like brothers and the servian woman. That went nowhere. Or did I lose something in translation?
The Clare´s boyfriend thing, the one that had a fling with crazy Vicky too, that was just left alone, seemed intended for something else, bit more tension and all that. Don´t get me wrong, I appreciate it wasn´t like that because this show is all about the awesome characters, who cares if the plot is bit wonky now and then. Not me. It´s all about characters and decisions and Catherine Cawood and she´s great. And that´s enough for me.
And the actors, I love the actors, all of them. I mean, MOlesley was awesome, Carl Davies (Daniel) too, O´Brien, everyone!

News: Sally Wainwright said she'll wait a while to do season 3 to come up with the perfect plot (that's the good news that S3 is/was in the works), but Sarah Lancanshire ruled out starring in a third one. (that's the bad one). Here is the link www.express.co.uk/showbiz/tv-radio/654171/Happy-Valley-Sarah-Lancashire-series-3
Andrea, I thought the story run pretty smooth. The only sidestory that I thought didn't link up fully with the rest of the main one was the trafficking humans.
What I mean is:
Spoiler
of course it linked up since one of the dead women was a Serbian trafficked one and how else was she going to be discovered if Sarah wouldn't have found Illinka. And once Cathrine's saved her, based on how her characters is, she had to do something more for her, like taking her home and placing her with Winnie. However, I think they went a bit in depth (the Goran guy and Knezevic mafia from Halifax) and then shut it down before exploring any other possibilities. Maybe it was meant for the next season (?)
Grace's boyfriend was I think providing backstory into what Vicky's background and MO was. I thought it was a pretty neat way to showcase how skillful this woman was. It looked like she targeted men for blackmail on a regular basis.
Spoiler
Gotta say that the idea that has Sarah's character all out of sorts: genetics eventually determines the kind of person you'd become
Spoiler
(if result of incest rape - a troubled serial killer, if son of a rapist - then something might be wrong with her grandson in the future)
is troubling to me. I don't believe genetics determines fully who you are as the environment is a huge part of development, but I thought it was latent in the second season as well somehow.

well, that was weird. Tried the spoiler tags myself, two times as you can see, and is still the same.
I like that Sally Wainwright will take her time but at Lancashire saying no. Atm, can´t imagine someone else doing it.
About the genetics, yes, I tought that last shot was a terrible suggestion, I hope is just her fear. I´ve seen it in real life, if you give a kid another chanche, to be raised by good people and in a loving environment and blahblah, genetics is bs. I really didn´t like that final shot so I hope Wainwright takes her time.

And during this episode couldn´t stop thinking about Julian Fellowes and his silly view on aristocrats (comparing to this show).
I guess I said it many times but this show has so many great characters and character´s building. Arthur, Polly, Esme, Tommy of course. And the story, very interesting. Who´s watching, btw?

Thanks Andrea! now that I know we got 3rd season, I'll watch too. Haven't seen anything new but Hap & Leonard but that ended in early April and now Outlander and GoT.
Did I already gush over Tom Hollander in The Night Manager? The series is not a complete waste of time, wouldn't say it's that good either, but this man is simply divine in every part I see him.
Peaky Blinders. This episode had so many, idk how to call it, round scenes, complete ideas. When he seeks absolution with the giypsy. Even his walking changed after that. Great characters, can´t say it enough. Frank and John scenes, when I find myself thinking: die die die, I like them again.
The cinematography of this show is brilliant. This last episode specially. How come GoT has such shitty cinematography? I can´t believe is a budget thing. I´m pretty sure they have a bigger budget than Peaky Blinders.
Music was as good as always, specially when Tom Waits started singing Soldier´s things:
and then this
.
