After watching the second episode, I think this show will either suck massive dong or be remembered as one of the best. Depends on if the ending will be satisfying or not.
I am. I was also big fan of the premiere. Thought the second episode was a step down, but it was still fairly decent. Next episode is apparently going to narrow it's focus to largely one character, I'll be interested to see how that goes.

I think you're going to be disappointing about the satisfying ending though Jen. I just can't imagine this show having one, doesn't seem like that kind of show. Though I suppose it's still early.

I don't mean I want the mystery solved, I just don't want a shit ending.
EDIT: This is a one-season show, right? I assumed that since it's based on a relatively short book

This show is on? A) it looks like redundant shit. B) Justin Therioux was a great coke head in American Psycho (that's about it- his John Hancock in John Adams was underwhelming), C). I'll probably watch after I finish Breaking Bad.

On par with GoT in terms of quality, but I feel more invested in GoT so I give it the edge. I don't care for all the Scorsese camera tricks EVERY SINGLE episode. Its redundancy lost its effectiveness by episode three.
Most of the characters are annoying.
So far I enjoyed S3 and 4 the most. The end of S3 was some of the most intense shit. About halfway thru S5.

I agree, both shows are similar on quality but GOT is just more interesting. And we don't get those damn dinner table scenes in GOT where it's just five straight minutes of Skylar and Walt giving eachother faces. That show could have used shorter seasons.
Anyway, back on topic!
Episode 3 of The Leftovers was great. The show doesn't yet seem to be building up to anything but the quality is undeniable and I like the characters.
Good fifth episode, I agree. That stoning at the beginning was brutal. I wonder what was up with the call from the AFTEC guy. Are they just going around slaughtering cults now?

ugh that was one of the most painful scenes I´ve watched on tv. Brutal is the word.

Wait, Holy Wayne is the real deal? Well fuck, wasn't expecting that.
I think this may have been my favorite episode yet. Maybe because it had a bit of a lighter tone in parts. I also really like Nora, and hope she doesn't get sidelined going forward.
I'd say I prefer it to True Detective too Jent. Shame this show is getting so much hate.

I disagree man. I don't think Nora could just get better like that from a few choice words and a hug. I guess we'll see.
I think what made the stoning especially bad for me was that she begged, and they stopped throwing the stones for a second, but then they started again.

First episode I really like. Wasn´t liking the show that much, thought it was too vague and the characters too hard to relate to and kind of boring to be honest. Wait, also liked the one about the priest but thought it was just because Eccleston is great so maybe I`m wrong, maybe was the writing because I like Nora too now. We´ll see.
Can´t say I like it more than TD because they are really different and also because I like plenty other shows more than TD.

This show is getting weirder by the episode.
So Kevin's daddy can talk to the departed? And what's up with that National Geographic issue? Someone in IGN said that they checked out the issue and that there was one article about a spider walking under water or something (which was quoted in the show in this episode!) and also an article about a civilization that disappeared called "the riddle of the Minoans".
And this the first time I actually liked Tom's scenes! Thank god Wayne is full of shit it was starting to piss me off. I can actually see this show ending in a satisfying way which I think would mark it as a personal favorite. And Andi, the actual story is a bit stupid but the writing, acting, directing, editing and soundtrack is just so good that it's easy to overlook it. At least IMO.
DA FUCK THIS SHOW Jent. Kevin´s dad is so crazy that he seems actually sane the way he believes the crap he´s saying.
And the magazine, that was find of infuriating for me. Seems like a joke. There´s a bear on the cover, wtf?
The riddle of Minoans??? why? I guess they talking about Minoancivilization that disappeared from Crete before the first important cultures on the greek continent. But the island was destroyed by an earthquake. Many said they were also the lost civilization of Atlantis... blahdiblah, but why???
Yes, the dialogues are good, the direction too but I don`t know, it´s lacking something. I did love when Nora watered those annoying bitches tho, I´d do that too I guess .

?, da fuq preacious, what was all that? I don`t even know if that Patty bitch is real because I can´t believe the amount of bs she can talk. And delivery guys? those were people pieces???
This show can only be that elusive because it will end up being pure nonsensical dogshit (but I`m pretty sure Spike´s poop is damn pretty).
At least we have some poetry, tho I don´t have a clue if it has something to do with... something, meh, forget it.

I don't think Dean and Kevin are the same person. There were multiple occasions where other characters saw Dean and acknowledged him (Jill, the GR, policemen and now Patti). I think that the delivery guys were bringing fake bodies of the departed that the guy from the Nora episode sells and they're probably going to do something annoying with them like putting them inside people's houses.
Another great episode, but again...
This show is so weird!
"Are you ready?" -creepy old ladies
Explosion in the sewers
What is the point of these things?! Maybe these two are connected? Also, Kevin was wearing white and smoking in that scene, kind of like the GR so maybe that's why the weirdos talked to him?
Knowing this show, it'll make sense later. We got some answers about the deer and about why a bunch of characters are so fucked up down the line, so hopefully more answers are coming.
I really don't know what to think of it... The first episaude caught me because of it's weird 70's english serie style and it's gloomy side (i can be very gloomy myself). I also appreciate of the dim light and the post-apocalyptic atmosphere but i don't even know if i like it or not.

Same here Asha, still not sure but, at least, after this episode I think the writers know what they are doing. Or I hope so.
First thought it was over the top, Jill most of all, suddenly she´s a jolly teen? Too happy and bubbley but then you know what´s really going on. It wasn´t for the entire episode so, ok. Actually, kevin´s dissatisfaction (not sure if it´s the right word for his expression at the end of the party) condenses that feeling you get that it wasn´t all so good after all, just real life.
You can tie some stories, it´s a nice and needed background for lots of things. I liked it. All about where you were that day, what you were doing. Also the vanishing was well done.

I'm all caught up on this show, and I like it. I didn't know what to think at first, or even if I wanted to keep watching. But the last two episodes have been good. Looks like seven episodes of setup and two episodes to pull it all together. I'm curious about whether the season finale will connect the remaining far-flung characters.
I liked it, not the show's best episode but probably the most optimistic/least depressing one. I was sure Nora was going to bite her bullet, but no. Also, I still hate the whole Wayne/Christina/black Asian baby/Tom thing. I don't understand the point of it, it's weird and irrelevant so far. The rest I like. I'd give this show a solid 9 for season 1 (I'm nice in reviews). I definitely don't regret watching it- great actors, interesting characters. Some great directing and editing too.
