So Thursday is the big day and there is a good summary of the runners and riders prior to the announcement of the nominations at Emmys 2014: The Major Contenders
I'm a bit cynical about the Emmys but I just don't think that Game of Thrones fits "the profile" as far as awards are concerned ( how they ignored The Wire is beyond me ). I reckon it's get crowded out again by the likes of Breaking Bad, Mad Men plus loads of other shows that I've never seen which makes it hard for me to judge
Even just within HBO GoT is up against it, but I hope that either Charles Dance or Peter Dinklage gets the nod - I really can't pick between them in GoT. As I wrote in WIC I'd be delighted to see Maisie get a nomination but objectively I don't think her material was strong enough (though great fun) this season. Sophie ( finally escaping the passive role of Sansa )may even just have shaded it in fact over Lena and Natalie (surprisingly good this season but not in many episodes).
Just can't see past Aaron Paul ( truly excellent IMO ) and Anna Gunn ( don't like her so much) beating GoT for Emmys in the Best Supporting Actor/Actress categories anyway knowing that once a series starts winning they tend to be favoured.
Diana Rigg and Pedro Pascal both deserve their submissions but I reckon they might not make the nominations. Outstanding Dram Series - regrettably no chance (due to "The Profile" thing again).
As for lead actress a big shout out for Tatiana Maslany in Orphan Black because she carries off multiple personalties so damn well.
Anyway, as I say I hardly see any of the contenders so I'm in a weak position to judge - so any other thoughts?

GOT will never win big at the Emmys, it's all about the noms (hopefully a few of these will make it: Sofie Turner, Pedro Pascal, Peter Dinklage, Charles Dance and Diana Rig). Chance is Peter will get a nom and Diana too. I actually think Pedro has a chance, though I'll be prepared for disappointment.
GOT probably secured the effects and prosthetics Emmys, though. Maybe music Emmys?
I lost respect for the Emmys when they nominated Dinklage & Clarke for season 3 and snubbed Nikolaj & Corey Stoll. That showed me the ceremony is a popularity contest.
This guy sooooo deserves an Emmy: Outstanding Music Composition For A Series (Original Dramatic Score)- Ramin Djawadi

It's a shame as he deserved a nomination. I think it's going to be too tough competition from the usual suspects for GoT to win any of the major awards though PD may be in with a real shout (he's won it once already so that's a help).
LS - the music really stood out for me this season whereas in the other seasons I hardly noticed it apart from the theme intro and songs.

Robin Wright better win for leading actress, but I'm not getting my hopes up.
I don't get the movie/miniseries nominations at all. Sherlock is nominated as a movie, while Luther and Treme are nominated as miniseries? Da fuck....
I think Breaking Bad is going to take the Emmy. Everyone is giving it good reviews and every poster I read seems to like it. I really need to see it.
I'm happy for Lena. I think she killed it this season. And as far as the nominations for True Detective go, I'd choose Woody over Matthew. But both were really good.

Only interested to see what happens with Tremé because I loved BB but come on. Oh wait, miniseries? da fuck? Ok, just TREMÉ.

I still haven't seen Breaking Bad but they pretty much cleaned up house. I was happy for TD though Fukunaga won over Marshall. Um, not sure if I agree though. I rather liked Neil's Watchers on the Wall. Anyway.
I'm pissed at Aaronb Paul winning over Dinklage. I'm okay with TD's episode 4 winning since the directing in the episode was admittedly amazing. Sorry Neil.
Aaron Paul was great in S5. Not so much the rest of the series. However, like the Academy giving 13 Oscars to the Return of the King (in honor of all three movies), looks like the Emmy's threw a bone to Breaking Bad. Not that BB was undeserving, it just wasn't deserving more so than GoT and certainly not as much as TD.

Peter Dinklage was a 100 times better than Aaron Paul this year. No contest, really.
Sherlock cleaned up, and only the Director was there to accept No Cumberbatch, no Freeman in the audience, unbelievable. Off pushing the Hobbit somewhere?

Oh my damn! Let's hear it for the girls! My one bright part of the Emmy Night - Kathy Bates and Jessica Lange from American Horror Story, well deserved IMO clap:

Hoooo boy GOT didn't win, and that was the last of the good source material.
Oh well, they can just cry themselves to sleep in their ratings and massive profits.

Yep, he's probably extremely bitter about it. Which probably means he won't write for the next few weeks. Oh well, it's not like he would have written much anyway.
