Rhaegar, despite wounding Robert, was struck down with a massive blow from Robert's warhammer, which scattered the rubies encrusted in Rhaegar's armor under the water. Rhaegar died with Lyanna Stark's name on his lips.

Super cool idea. I actually succeeded in making sense and matching the events of the eps with the masterpieces they posted (like girl bit by dogs - Walda and Ramsay's bitches; two dragons - the V&R; blind Arya getting into a stick fight and so forth; the Red Woman and Jon's resurrection pic at the top).
There will come a day after a long summer when the stars bleed and the cold breath of darkness falls heavy on the world. In this dread hour a warrior shall draw from the fire a burning sword. And that sword shall be Lightbringer, the Red Sword of Heroes, and he who clasps it shall be Azor Ahai come again, and the darkness shall flee before him.
I can see it happen! I mean really. He's in the North, he's probably going to hear about the Others and their powers, and if he's going to choose a side so he can land on his feet... the Others would definitely be a viable option as far as he's concerned. He'd bring the Wall down just to provide proof of his good will to the NK!
