I am going to the UK for the first time in 3 weeks, I have no relatives or friends there, so any inside tips I would really appreciate. Like tips of for the best way to get around, where to stay, what to see what to do...stuff locals know.
I would gladly offer tips to places I have been!

Don, at least give us something to start with! Which areas will you visit, where lies your interest (nature or cityhopping for example). The UK is a pretty big place! Anyway, I'll give the ball to Yvyb, KM and Al from here since I haven't been in the UK outside London since I was 10 or so.
Take a train to Salisbury and see the cathedral. I think its only a couple hours from London. Then you can take a bus to Stonehenge. It's where the demons dwell and the banshee's live and they do live well. Just watch out for dwarves that could crush it.

London has a fantastic metro, you'll be able to get across the city with ease. Its been about a decade since I went there but I enjoyed my time, lots of things to see, do and drink!

Oh ya know, as a french myself, i totally hate a lot of stuffs here (comparing them to my experiences abroad), so i would really understand you couldn't stand our subway or our cab drivers (who are known to be the most agressive in Europe). We don't care for handicaped persons either since everyone here got two legs and that's very uncool to be in need of accurate equipments.

I thought the subway system in Paris is very complicated (but I didn't get so familiar so maybe that's part of my issue) but provides rather well for the territory it covers (I counted about 13 routes). Chicago's train system is fairly poor in comparison (8 lines), though when you overlap the bus system you've got the area mostly covered for Chicago proper. And I hate most cabs period regardless of the city. In my experience only, cab drivers are aggressive everywhere!
Sorry about the disability problem. I did notice that it was a rather big issue the further east you go in Europe as a whole. Many establishments didn't meet proper disability requirements for buildings. Part of it I understood it is because many buildings were old, and required funds and a whole redo. But in many places I visited 5 or more years after, situation improved dramatically. Again, I speak largely as a tourist.
