You're right, maybe I should give the benefit of the doubt, but the "bad writing all around as far as she's concerned" led me to believe it less about the writing itself than it was about not liking the plot-change. I'm also starting to think she and I just don't communicate that well.

I do wonder though, am I the only one that remembers how GODDAMN AWFUL Sansa's AFFC chapters were? Are you seriously saying you wanna see that embien-equivalent storyline on screen?
If what is happening now, is considered poor then let me know how "the pooks" would've made riveting TV?

Yeah, I agree. Alayne was quite the sleep aid. Robin endlessly whining and crying and being pathetic, a parade of dull one dimensional characters like Myranda and Sansa doing absolutely jack shit the whole time.

I don't know how this story line will turn out, but at the very least I'm interested in where it's going.

Small things, first. Loving Jaime and Bronn in Dorne, it was exciting and quite funny and Jaimie's golden hand saving the day was great.
Didn't like the sand snake scene, too rushed, and kinda clunky, especially that lil monologue by Obara. I understand the need for it, but surely it could've been handled better, especially since Oberyn was so well done last season.
Sansa in Winterfell was great, a nice callback to season1 with the feather and bringing up Rheagar twice in the ep was very cool.
Oh and the Stannis, Shireen scene was lovely...but like others noted, it might mean bad things to come.

SO the big depature was Ser Grandpa Barry dying, in a way I am not that surprised. But I am surprised it happened so soon. In the pooks, we leave Ser Barristan just as the city comes under siege, so I think he is no longer for this world in the books either.

Him leaving Dany, and so leaving her without any older advisers might work well for Dany, and maybe make her more erratic or weaker her resolve and back down....we shall see what comes first.

I am sad about Barristan dying, though I expected it. I did, however, think that because Mance died, Barry would make it. But it looks like more than one person was the one who was certain they'd have scenes later on.

I see the Sand Snakes are even more boring than they are in the books. I do realize in watching them that they're not actually interesting in the books, however.

The Faith Militant... another one of those things that was terrible in the books and translated that way to the screen. We don't get Greyjoys, or Jon Connington, but we get this crap?

I'm happy about the Stannis/Shireen scene because it means that there is no effing way that he's going to let that little girl's blood be used for any sacrifice. And I think Melly was just saying that about her blood to put Selyse in her place.

I'm thrilled with the way Cersei is moving forward...even if events aren't exactly like they are in the books, her descent into madness is. With nobody to check her, Cersei is ruining King's Landing. It also means that she'll probably wind up getting arrested, Kevan will return to turn things around, Cersei will do the walk of shame and Varys will take care of Kevan. Much of the plot of the books done right.

And I'm delighted with the changes to Margaery. Conniving and manipulative. She's still going to be trapped by Cersei nevertheless.

Yeah, Sand Snakes were terrible, which I expected. They're bad characters, the show should have just cut them. I don't think Arianne would have been much better either though.

I still think Melisandre is going to try to burn Shireen. Obviously if Stannis is around for that he'll put a stop to it, but maybe he won't be.

I don't remember the Faith Militant being that absurd in the books. Then again it's going on 10 years since I read Feast.

Anyone else get the feeling that Bronn is gonna die? Why else show the scene with Jaime talking about how they want to die. I half expected Bronn to say, at the end of Aero Hotahs axe, because I am betting you that's how it's done.

The Faith Militant had an extremely quick setup in two eps and didn't work that well for me either. Too much, too soon. I know the point is to cut through the material because many think it is filler, but the truth is Martin gave the Faith Militant a good set up. Perhaps the medium is more forgiving. You have more latitude, you can elaborate with less cost.

The books had The Faith Militant with two arms: the Sparrows (the part that Cary I think remembers best: the humble, the peaceful pious people) and the Warrior's Sons (the faith's army, which was mainly composed of actual knights without masters). As such the acts which here we see the Sparrows do should have been committed by the army of the faith. Just my two cents.

I really liked the Wall. Flawless storytelling there as far as I'm concerned. Also another mention of Greyscale and of Stone Men. Dillane kills every damn scene he's in. His arms coming around to embrace Shireen! Jesus, give that man an award already.

I loved the stuff at the Wall too, TW highfive Kit and Dillane work so well together, IMO. I loved Tyrion humming so loud on the boat and Jorah taking his gag off I miss that funny, undrunk Tyrion. Jaime and Bronn, meh, Sand Snakes, meh. BUT, but, Selmy getting cut down? No faqin' way. By a bunch of Harpies? Give me a break :gagging: . Oh, and the Sansa stuff was alright, not killing me like it thought it would. Love the Lyanna stuff

Poor Barry! They tried to give him an good death teehee Right after another mention of Rhaegar too. The WF cript Lyanna & Rhaegar mentioned by Petyr: WHOAAAAA! The exposition fairy was super busy after 4 seasons of close to nothing. I will be surprised if they don't drop the R + L = J reveal this season....

Said it in the other thread, will say again the worse parts in this this season are the ones they kept closer to the pooks!
Except that last scene, but i loved that, all the blood and fight you could possibly ask for! And Selmy and GW going down like the badasses they're supposed to be.
I think they had to cut on the supporting characters for Dany since eventually she'll have Tyrion maybe Jorah and maybe Varys next to her.

Will write my thoughts later, but just something I wanted to mention - it doesn't feel AT ALL like GW is dead also, quite the contrary. I think Barristan's appearance was meant to save him, and didn't we see in one of the trailers *slight spoilers* a shot of GW wounded, in bed, with Missandei leaning over him and kissing him? Or am I remembering it wrong?

You are correct GW will at least linger, but Barry's fate has been spoiled in next weeks trailer.

The Faith Militant had a very quick setup in the books as well. The sparrows only appear once before they're already in King's Landing and in charge, and the High Sparrow tricks  Cersei into re-establishing the faith the first time she meets him I believe, and then the second time he appears he's arresting her. I agree that it was slightly rushed in the show.

As for the Faith Militant, the Sparrows are not humble or peaceful. We first meet them carrying axes and clubs, and they storm into the Sept with weapons and force the Most Devout to make the High Sparrow the High Septon. Those were the Poor Fellows, whose only difference from the Warrior's Sons is that they are not Knights. They were the army of the faith as well, same as in the books

It's a terrible concept and one that is made comical in the show. Poor Fellows? Warrior Knights? You lost me, and I don't think I want to be found.

Seven save us! Cosca has been sleeping through the Brienne chapters freakout The Faith Militant was a good speed book build up, if you could have been bothered to pay attention to Brienne's first chapters of AFfC!!! spiderkill She and Ser Creighton meet Sparrows on their way to Duskendale. And they have Beggar Brothers and Poor Fellows, even Septons identify themselves all as Sparrows. They are humble people who take up whatever they have around to DEFEND themselves against the ravages of war brought about by all the looting and burning that happens in the Riverlands. Sure by the time we get to Kings Landing they become defenders of the Faith but I cannot remember the Beggar Brothers or Poor Fellows attacking someone.

Also the scene you say it is the first when we meet them happens way down the road and off page IIRC. It's something that it is reported to Cersei. Second hand. But I agree that eventually they do become a power of sorts that supports the Faith. Part of an Army is used to describe the old order that was closed down by the Targs. I'm sure this doesn't matter to anyone but this IS the book to screen thread, right?! teehee and it is good to see at least one of yous remembering the source material! Kudos to Cosca for partial recollection!

EDIT: Because screwed up code.

Well those chapters were incredibly dull. But I'm pretty sure there wasn't the heaps of setup your implying, and that almost all of it was in one or two chapters. Unfortunately my copy of Feast was destroyed in an unfortunate accident so I can't test you on that.

And the fact that they invaded the Sept of Baelor with weapons shows that they have attacked someone. I see no reason why people would lie about that. They were pretty much always an army/militia, whether their intent was solely to defend septs and so on or not, they just banded together and became more organised.

Come on. They talk about how they want to die, setting up the inevitable. Bronn wants his boring.  Nope. He will die by an axe to the head courtesy of Aero Hotah, who gets sent by Doran to intercept Ellarias and the Sand Snakes attempt to kill them, but ends up defending Ellaria who is about to get killed by Bronn.

you burnt it, didn't you?! For shame, Cosca, for shame!

I didn't mean slow, with lots and heaps of set up. Seriously, I think it was just good, reasonable built backbone for what was to come regarding the Faith. It also gave them more depth: people turning to religion, when no one else was protecting them and all lords were fighting and killing them. Sure... we won't agree but at least I had my say, darn it!

Pfft, I don't trust Quyburn's stories. That's what he told Cersei but when she got to the Sept, there were actual knights with armor guarding the sept there... That's your Warrior's Sons order. Also, when you get rabble and looting doesn't mean EVERY single poor fellow and beggar brother was participating. THEY WERE PEACEFULLY TAKING OVER! (I'm just messing with Cosca cause he remembered! And that was a nice surprise)

I'm with Ry. Bronn dies but first he kills Myrcella. Hear me out before you tell me I'm completely bonkers.

They had the Maggy prophecy, right?! Cersei will see her kids die. Now the way they spoke in an interview about a few days ago, they have what they call: "the story for the season" what is it. First they set it up and then they rip the rewards. The Maggy prophecy would be total waste if they don't take advantage AT ALL in this season. Because let's face it: not even they would want another #3LeechesIsNot2...

So they had Joff last season, now they have to kill either Tommen or Myrcella. I'm going with the girl. And Oberyn said we do not hurt little girls in Dorne and while the Sand Snake and Ellaria do hate her, I believe they won't break that. Too predictable. Since there's no Dorkstar, that leaves Bronn.

YAY, I actually typed the whole crackpot. I've been thinking on it for a while...

No TW. Bronn can't kill Jaimes Kid. Bronns death will haunt Jaime because it's his fault, and his remorse will lead him find true love with Brienne (Remember he wants to die in the arms of the woman he loves...he looks longingly at Tarth...).

Ry, no! Bronn is totally going to kill Jamie's kid by accident. Totally. And MAYBE, Jaime will kill Bronn in a fight?!?!!? freakout Holy crap that could happen. I mean Bronn is not going to be killed by some Sand Snake, will he? And he's not going to take on that Areo, either. He hates big men. Calling it. He's going to kill Myrcella and then Jaime will do the only thing he's capable off. Also: Dorne is not at war in the pooks. So Dorne cannot kill Myrcella. Not really.

Bronn will not be killed by a Sand Snake. Aero Hotah kills him. Jaime Feels guilt and remorse, blames Cersei for always manipulating his feelings, and goes on to wed a 6 foot 10 piece of poon, who is fresh off from killing Stannis. They have two kids, twin girls with brown hair.

It just occurred to me, while Sansa seems to be in a win-win situation (if Littlefinger is actually being honest with her), something that can fuck it all up for her is an unwelcome rescue attempt by Theon.

I am wondering where everyone will end up at the end of the season.
Dany will fly off with Drogo, will Tyrion remain abandoned in Meereen?
Cersei will be locked in the red keep after her walk of shame?
Will Arya be fully trained by the end of this season?

No idea about Sansa.
No idea about Stannis.
No idea about Jaime.
No idea about Brienne.

Oh oh oh! LOVE Ry's idea with Areo Hotah killing Bronn. I suppose one of the Sand Snakes could do it as well (maybe it'll be more ironic for Bronn to be killed by a woman), but I think it would be a good opportunity to establish Areo as a character.
Weren't there some stills of Jaime in Dorne talking to Doran? I don't remember Bronn being in the picture...

I'm gonna say:

Dany - I don't think she'll fly off or meet her new Dothraki horde, think Drogon will rescue her from the pit, and then she'll leave the city next episode with Tyrion and co.
Sansa - escaped with Theon and Brienne, headed it to the Wall.
Stannis - Dead, killed by Brienne
Arya - I think they'll go off book and have her kicked out of her training to fail to let go of being Arya Stark. Then she'll head back to Westeros.
