Here we go boys and girls: www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/hbos-westworld-100-million-pricetag-934347 so no pressure on this one right?! I think with Game of Thrones ending whatever the new exec says, well it's going to be a pretty big risk considering the amount of money they poured in and the fact they only have this new thing developed so far. I read some good reviews and some not so good. However all of them agree that acting is excellent and so is directing and cinematography. We will see if it connects with the audience. First ep is tonight!
I gotta say I'm quite intrigued, and it's only first ep! I knew what the premise was going in and yet they succeeded to make it quite interesting for me.
I'm not sure what Ed Harris' role is but he's taking circuit scalps for a reason. He's also raping that Dolores something fierce every time he's getting a chance, though the classic question arises: is it rape if it is a programmed non-consenting robot? Or is it just a big doll girl? Of course things change if they develop a conscience but how can you tell? And where is the line?! I think it will give me a headache no doubt. It's the Blade Runner all over again...
Poor girl is the oldest host in that world and you know she's got the update in her because of the last scene I loved the discussion between maker and Dolores' dad. Oh, when he quoted Shakespeare's Lear on revenge I felt the hair raising on the back of my neck. Terrible things will happen. I can feel it.
There's something to be said about the direction, how it is shot and the acting. I can only hope the rest lives up to the pilot if not surpasses it.
You liked it Donnie! Good reactions I'm reading over the net too from fans. We'll see how it all develops. The fly scene was perfect she used to just sit and let the thing go in eye. Well... no more! There's a lot of whispering in the ep. I wonder what her dad told her? No way he just quoted Shakespeare's line from Romeo & Juliet with nothing more. On that note the Jeffrey Wright's character also whispered something to her dad before he decommissioned him...
They threw me for a clever loop when it turns out the man in black is a human guest, ( or is he?) I thought James Marsden was a guest also, turns he was also a robot.
Very interesting that Dolores was the oldest robot in the park, and it seems the park had other "themes" in the past, maybe those theme switches is how they will do multiple seasons.

I thought humans cannot be killed by hosts which made MIB human. My best shot for Ed Harris' character is either a creep who gets his kicks out of using WW violence to satisfy his evil tendencies or a guy who represents The Corporation's competition. It can't be that there is no one out there who wants their secret. And he DOES look for those circuits. For study maybe (?). It can also be a disgruntled employee who was fired. Maybe Jeffrey Wright's predecessor? At one point Anthony Hopkins asks something relating to the time since Bernard was head of programming or updates. I can't remember.
Totally loved it. I also love how the Man in Black is a particularly nasty human being and not like the original where Yul Brenner was a robot gone bad.

Ry, You didn't like the music? I liked everything about it. The intro, the shoot out sequence on Paint it Black and everything in between. Who's the British Neil Patrick Harris?
TOTALLY a British Neil Patrick Harris Ry! I just searched images of him and I agree. Even his role of arrogant writer with big aspirations and kind of full of himself reminds me a bit of the guy he played on How I met your mother for some reason. His big Hector speech will have to wait lol
I like the reverse-Truman Show vibe to this show. And I'm so looking forward to the wheels falling off.
I wonder whether Ed Harris is there for some sort of long-term industrial espionage. Mostly because of the statements by the management that there's a much bigger game afoot that doesn't have to do with people getting their rocks off on a fantasy vacation. Ed could even by a cyborg from a competing company or government that doesn't have the same fail safes as the cyborgs in fantasy land. I kind of doubt that, but it would be a fun discovery. And it would explain his utter lack of humanity and empathy.
I think Anthony Hopkins is a wrench in the cogs of this machine that was built on his legacy. I don't think he cares about what the company is trying to accomplish. He wants to give the machines self-awareness. He wants them to liberate themselves from their horrifying existence. Or at least that's my take.
This show could spend a lot of time telling us the stories of the different characters as they get to the point of achieving self-awareness, just as they've done with Dolores, a la Walking Dead. They have such a good cast, it would be a shame not to explore the starting point for each character. I hope they get to the action pretty quickly though.
I have been wondering, the 1970's Westworld movie also had Medieval & Roman world. Will future seasons will explore them? HBO can reuse their Rome and GOT sets! Hehe

Oh Basi! That would be such a damn smart move! Send a robot to spy on how the competition is setting everything up! And your explanation fits perfectly with why even as a robot The Man in Black cannot be killed. Oh this is good lol Ry, I think we need more penis! Or I wouldn't mind objectifying a bit Mr. Hector that is an extremely hot robot. Seriously though, the man is incredibly good looking and he's doing bad boy very well.
Liked it very much, it was expertly executed (in terms of production values, music, cinematography etc) and the story is a very promising idea. I'm a bit worried how they can make the plot stretch over a season though. Let alone multiple seasons.
A couple of questions:
-How do guests recognize who is a host?
-How do bullets not penetrate humans?
I think they will explain that Jent. As of now they haven't. It may be the same explanation as in the movie. BTW Did we get yet a human being shot though? Did I miss it?

Not yet, but I have a feeling the shit will hit the fan soon.
I quite liked the scene with Robo Poppa Abernathy, that was some top notch acting. Showing a malfunctioning machine that is both very vulnerable and at the end, very threatening.

I liked but I´m worried of all the philosophical themes. I would hate if it turns to silly shit like in True Detective.
But I want to say that, at least part of it, feels like Pinocchio and Pinocchio is my favorite kids story so. Maybe Bernard is some sort of Pinocchio. And Hopkins a Gepetto. I don´t know, just an idea. I like that but it is also a bit silly and used. I`m confused.
Need to watch again.

Actually Andi, it's quite a brilliant parallel. He did give them "reveries", memories, even though he says at some point "just remember, they're not real". Definitely a Maker thingy falling in love with his creation type of thing.
