Okay, I know that none of you besides myself have admitted to reading the Terry Brooks series. But I'm going to post about the new show on MTV here.
I was pleasantly surprised by the show. I expected wide diversions from the books, which is not a bad thing, actually... Terry Brooks is not really the deepest of writers, which means that MTV is probably a good platform for the television show. But there was enough out of The Elfstones of Shannara to make the show recognizable (I did read it some years ago).
We actually enjoyed the show. And Manu Bennet as the druid Allanon, was a brave casting choice that was a complete departure from him in the books and remarkably refreshing. Allanon came across as a Gandalf clone in the books, and Bennet's portrayal was nothing like that. Sexy even.

I stopped after Wishsong. Elfstones was OK, but Sword was my favorite. Complete Tolkien ripoff, but a very good one. Shea and Flick and their little Gimli and Legolas buddies were great fun.
Seriously, Tolkien's estate shoulda sued based on Allanon alone.
