To whom do you think Jaime is saying the line about killing every Tully to get back to Cersei? I could be Brienne, but I can't tell.
Will Lancel make it out of this episode alive?
Can anyone tell who the other person is in the shot where Brienne is drawing her sword? It doesn't look like Jaime, at least.

I think he is talking to Edmure, he seems to be in a Lannister tent.

Lancel might be toast, but killing him might drive a deeper wedge between her and Kevan, and she needs at least some allies by her side.

I think that is the Blackfish.

I am kinda hyped about this Ep, everything seems to be coming to a head. And I really wanna know who is grabbing Pod.

Ah, yes, Edmure would make sense! I'd already forgotten about Edmure (can't stand him).

I see your point about why Cersei might have Lancel spared, but I'm no so sure Cersei is thinking clearly enough to worry about needing Kevan as an ally.

Why would Brienne be drawing a sword against the Blackfish, unless they're drawing swords to fight others, as opposed to each other.

I think Brianne might convince the Blackfish to stand down, maybe she will sway him into helping Sansa ( it seems the Blackfish and Catelyn were close and he feels he owes Cat a debt). And him and his men dying saving a castle would be a waste. I see Bree in a boat so maybe they slip out in the cover of night.

I was wondering about why Brienne was in a boat, but since we know

Spoiler

However, if they have to escape, that means the Lannisters/Freys have beaten the Blackfish's Army, doesn't it (and there are a lot of dead bodies in one shot)? If that's the case, the Blackfish wouldn't have an army left to take to Sansa. I agree the Blackfish, were he in the position, would absolutely do what he could to help Sansa, though.

Kevan has already told Cersei to go back home to Casterly Rock. And I have no doubt that some way,

Loved the Hound "I prefer chicken!" Could get no satisfaction with Arya. Wanted to see her carve up that waif. Jaime losing his soul, lets her go, again. Can't believe blackfish is gone just like that, not cool. No trail by combat? Ugh. 3/10 this week. Missing Cogman. With regard to BBowl, I'm thinking

Yes, Ly. I caught that line . I think it was a shout out to the previous glorious one the Hound had.

I am a bit surprised that Trial by Combat was banned. But it works for the HS to have that. With seven septons to judge, one can be sure the verdict is rigged. Trial by Combat is something he couldn't control. Really well played. He's ahead of Cersei every time so far. But she has some wildfire up her sleeve, you can bet you life on it. That's what I suspect she was talking to Quiburn about.

Just want to give props for one of the best scenes this series has put forth: Edmure and Jaime. Wow.

We definitely had Sandor peen in this episode. But was it Rory McCann peen or not? Sort of NSFW under the spoiler tag.

My thoughts are more questions after this ep:

Since it takes one episode to travel from Essos to Westeros, will Arya be back in time to stab fools in the finale?

Seems the siege of Meereen is happening, but with only the finale to tie up the story, will the Greyjoys help? Why not have Drogon toast a few ships?

Whur is Rickon?

Whur are the other two dragons?

Will the hound now travel North to help Sansa? SANSAN GET HYPE.

Good episode, setting the last two episodes up proper.

-Lord Varys leaving Meereen - is it he who received the letter from Olenna Tyrell?
-Cersei and Qyburn's chat about what the little birds found...is it wildfire?

Spoiler

-Beric and Thoros come back, the Hound takes a piss...

Spoiler

-Waifbowl was in the dark, will we get another Arya scene for episode 10 or is it like Sansa two seasons ago where it ended at the moon door in episode 8...

Yeah I'm excited now.

Theories for upcoming events (since we're pretty much all caught up with the books now):

-Rickon dies, Ramsay dies, Davos dies after figuring out about Shireen and attempting to kill Melly again (she kills him instead). The Starks are saved by Littlefinger.

-At Meereen, we'll see a proper 5 minute battle sequence reminiscant of Stannis's charge in season 4. But with 10 times the budget. I'm guessing Dany frees the two dragons, they start burning shit while the Greyjoys fuck the slaver fleet from behind and the Dothraki charge on the ground forces. Hopefully Daario dies.

-When the fighting's done, Dany announces she's leaving to Westeros with the Greyjoys, and leaving the Unsullied, Gray Worm and Missandei to rule the Slaver's Bay.

-We'll see what Euron's been up to, we'll see his newly built fleet, and we'll get a hint at his future plans (I'm guessing he still thinks he can get on Dany's good side, but she already promises to destroy him to younger Greyjoys)

-Cersei burns the Sept of Barlor and cooks the Faith inside, and this is a weapon she will use again. Jaime arrives just in time to see the fire, and understands what Cersei really is.

-Arya arrives at the Riverrlands, while the Freys and the Brotherhood are both set up for a monumental clash with her in the thick of it. Needless to say, she will cross another name off her list early off in season 7.

-Bran crosses the Wall, and the Night King's mark is still active. Can see that from a mile away, I just hope it won't happen like this. That would truly suck, Bran fucking up so bad for a second time without even considering the consequences. So if the Wall's falling this season, that's how it happens. If not, then good. The Mark can be used to break the Wall next season, we just need the Night King to chase Bran through the vision world again instead of it lasting forever and Bran being an idiot again. Either way, I think Bran meets Edd early in the episode, and arrives at Winterfell for the very last shot of the season.

-Winter finally arrives

-We see the end of the Tower of Joy sequence

Oh and I think that after Winter arrives we get a montage that travels all around Westeros with some snow: Arya on a ship with the Riverlands coming up, Dany at sea, Sansa, Jaime staring at Cersei's wildfirepalooza, etc etc and ending with Bran's reunion with Jon and Sansa. There's just too much to cover without a montage, otherwise you end up skipping Jaime and Arya in the finale.

I liked this episode! Like Ry said, it had one of the best scenes ever, what a great job done by Tobias Menzies and Nik, with good writing. Riverrun shone these last two episodes, I'm not even sas we lost the Blackfish. I also love this director, everything simply flows in his scenes. The Lannister and Frey flags rolling over the walls of Riverrun, such a sad yet very beautiful shot.
The Hound is in top shape, a breath of fresh air. Bronn and Pod, even if a bit long and awkward, was a funny little scene. D&D love to poke fun at the viewers. "Do you think they're fucking?"
Tyrion and Varys was good, but Meereen is still shit and that silent Dany entrance was even more shit. I think the problem is they have this out of this world character with so much power, you just can't direct her in a way that rings true and does not look like a Hollywood blockbuster. Also, how do you go from writing such a realistic, human scene between Edmure and Jaime to Dany on a dragon. This will always be fucking cheesy but whatever. Here's hoping The Greyjoys get to shine for a bit when they'll crush the Harpy's fleet.

I really like the actor playing Tommen, he does extremely well with the part. Funny how Jaime also mentioned mothers burning cities to the ground.

I even liked Arya and the Waif, don't care it didn't seem realistic, it was a cool scene.

Hmmm re: future speculation. I don't think the Wall will fall this season. Wouldn't that create a massive avalanche or flooding? Not sure if there is time or budget for that, with all the other events we expect to happen. Plus, I don't see how Bran's mark will cause this. It didn't cause the cave to collapse. And we don't even know if it's still active. I don't see Bran messing up again, after that Benjen "you'll be ready" line.

As for Arya, we keep assuming she'll go straight up to the Riverlands and kill the Freys but she can't do that all by herself and maybe after all this time she'll actually want to go North instead, after she hears about whatever will happen at Winterfell.

Yeah I agree on Bran, Macha. I also think the Wall coming down this season would be too soon. Two seasons of the White Walker invasion would be boring. On the Mark as the Night's King way past the Wall... well, it's been established as the White Walker's way to pass magical barriers, the Wall presumably being similar. Regardless of whether or not the Wall comes crashing down at some point, I think this will be their way into Westeros. I guess they could climb up, but that would require quite a bit of suspension of disbelief. And the Night King did some sort of snow stomp at the cave which might be what eventually shatters the Wall, or it's just a random superpower like COTF fireballs.

I do definitely think Arya, the Hound, the BWB, the Freys and hopefully Edmure will all collide into a Riverlands story arc next season, though. Also, LSH is completely and totally out of the picture, as expected.

Jent, didn't BWB suggest they go North? Thoros and Beric definitely suggested that when they talked about the "cold winds in the north". I expect next season they will. I think Riverlands is where Arya will make her killing ground. Freys all over, someone has to take them down on a personal level, like the one who cut Cat's throat and his father.

Eventually they will, yeah, but at the moment I think we're looking at an Arya reunion with season 3 characters (hopefully Gendry too!!!), and maybe when she's done she leads the BWB North.

I see a lot of people at WotW saying the episode was rubbish. Who knows, maybe so. I thought these last two episodes were good.

For me personally it was my least fave episode this season.
Some good individual scenes but Blackfish's offscreen death, boring Meereen and the very by the numbers conclusion to Arya's story was kinda...meh.

Still, very hyped for the last two eps, and really hope the finale can tie it all together.

Yep, 2 and this one were the best. And I liked the previous one also. I got used to not being on the same wave-lenght with the peeps at WoTW. Maybe it's because I'm not so hyped about the big events anymore, dunno. I like the quiet scenes and the jokes. I didn't need to see the Blackfish dying, there are too many on screen brutal deaths already. As for the Waif and Arya, we've seen them fighting in previous episodes already. Just because it was a despicable character and there was a lot of build up doesn't mean I need to see her getting stabbed and her eyes poked out.
But what I found truly WTF in that WoTW review was Kevan being "mysoginistic"? Come the fuck on.

Uuu, Jent, forgot to write this earlier. Melisandre can't die yet tho, she saw herself in Winterfell and she also saw herself meeting Arya again. Actually I'm starting to think she won't die killed by just an ordinary mortal character, she seems way too tough. I can only see her die at the hand of the WW. Or maybe not at all, who knows. Maybe she'll repent for her mistakes and be left to carry that burden for another hundred years.

I agree, which is why I'm certain Davos dies. That is, after he finds out about Shireen, but before he gets the chance to get his revenge on Melly Sanders. Maybe she'll kill him herself.

I thought this one was pretty average, maybe because I expected more. The Terminator Waif was dumb as fuck and her death was a massive cheat. Shame! Shame! Shame! Riverrun was pointless -- its disposition almost an afterthought. Tyrion is still boring and Deus ex Dany was even more underwhelming than what I've come to expect from Emilia Clarke.

Hound and the BWBers was decent. Pod and Bronn was OK.

I don't get it. Is Kevan's misogyny due to the fact he directed Cersei toward the gallery? It must be because that's the only act that did. I thought that was a sign of Cersei's fall from grace, the loss of her status amongst Tommen's circle and because she's waiting to be tried by the seven not because Kevan hates women. Plus that was probably Tommen's command under HS's watchful eye. Bah, whatever.

Sid, regarding your question where does Varys go. I would have said Dorne in a heartbeat before when Doran was still alive. If I'm reading you right though you think Tyrell's. But that won't do because the Tyrells have lots to lose if Dany comes to Westeros. Margery would lose the throne...

I didn't think her death was a massive cheat.  I actually liked how they did it.  I feel like it did a nice job of tying together what she'd learned in her time with the FM, and what she'd brought with her to the HoBaW.  That said, I hated the Waif so much, I wouldn't have objected to seeing her death.  I liked the individual Riverrun scenes, as I thought they were well-done, but, well, it was an awful lot like the books, and I wasn't fond of that part of the books, so...  I kinda enjoyed the fact Tyrion finally talked them into drinking.  I haven't been a big fan of the "spinning wheels" scenes with Tyrion, GW, and Missandei in the show, but I thought that one worked better than others.  I really enjoyed the BWB's stuff, even more for the fact there was no LSH.

Yeah I do hate that Riverrun seems pointless at the moment, without the army heading North, but this all may well be set-up for Arya's season 7 arc. I can see her targeting Walder Frey next season and cleaning up house in Riverrun. Maybe even freeing Edmure and giving him some redemption in some way. He HAS to become Lord again, doesn't he?

Yeah, Arya chose her ground and surprise the Waif with probably the only scenario where Arya had the upper hand, i thought it was very clever.

Something that bothers me is i keep reading about how "nothing happened" after every episode, meanwhile this is the season where most shit happened, where we officially surpassed anything ever published in the pooks, so wtf? Lots of things are happening and everyone is entitle to say they didn't like how it happened, but that doesn't mean it didn't.

The episode could have been much better with an on-screen Blackfish death with some sad music and some sort of consequence for Brienne and Jaime being there in the first place.

Well, there is the army the blackfish had gathered, so who knows what they will do.  I fully expect Arya to take some revenge upon her return to Westeros, and maybe she can somehow inspire some of the guys left over from Riverrun to fight for/with her?  They mentioned Edmure's wife and child, and while it may be just so they could use the trebuchet line (although I found it funny they used the word "catapult," instead), something could come of that.  I don't really want redemption for Edmure, though.  He can rot.

Dolan - I think there are a couple of things at work.  You have the contingent of "I want bang, bang shoot 'em up every episode (or the westerosi equivalent), or it's boring," and the contingent of "well, what you call character development, I call character assassination, 'cause it ain't like the books."  Between them, it's a lot of people crying "boring...nothing happened."

Yeah the dialogue driven parts may bore some people - or not be up to their standards which is a matter of persona judgement imo - but Riverlands had plenty of "battles" Jaime vs Blackfish Jaime vc Brienne Jaime vs Edmure. I believe leaving the Blackfish die off-screen was to further their point that it wasn't the focus of that subplot, which was not every conflict needs to be solved by the sword though sometimes violence is inevitable and his death was more to buy them some time to flee while dying with honour and the focus of that subplot was to explore all those sub-conflicts from a different perspective. While still reminding us that sometimes violence is inevitable (Sandor, Blackfish).

This was another fucking awful episode. Seldom have I seen a show phoning it in like this. I admire that you guys are theorizing and try to make sense of all the hot garbage that is going on this season but clearly the showrunners have lost all the passion for this show and are just steamrolling towards the end without trying to make any sense along the way.

I guess it was just me, I was having a bad day, so my mood was shit.
And seasons 4 and 5 had relatively big episode 8 moments, the Waifbowl could've been done a lot better IMO.

Donnie it's not just you huggs people all over the net where I went seemed to have expected a full blown fight. And I had waited for so long to see the Waif beaten that I felt the same. But really watching her hold the Needle, closing her eyes, and then slash the candle plunging everything in darkness was well shot, scripted and acted.. I was overjoyed. I had the same feeling like season 1 when Syrio was around. I loved it in the end. I mouthed "not today". yippie

A bad GOT episode is still better than 90% else on TV.
Since I film and edit sometimes I think of how "I" would've shot certain things, its silly. But I have a visual eye, I need that for my work and its a double edged sword sometimes.

While you and I don't always agree Jap, and usually we are on the opposite side of the opinion spectrum. I think the issue with this episode was ( and you guys know I am not a pook wanker in the least) is the well has run dry in book materials.

I think D&D have made some very smart choices in adaptation of the novels and in some ways even improved on issues of the books during the series. But Martin, love em or hate em, when he is good he writes amazing stuff. Sure it has become rarer and rarer in the last two books, there was still some good stuff there. When D&D have to invent stuff, it is 50/50 some works, some doesn't.

And now that they have to make make up more and more stuff, fill in the blanks of GRRM's missing prose the cracks becomes apparent.

While this episode was certainly shaky, one of the weakest the show has had I'd say, I still think D&D are hitting a better average than Feast and Dance GRRM. The connective tissue may have holes, and some story lines are a mess., but I actually find most of the stories and characters compelling, something GRRM almost entirely failed at it in the last two books. I don't think more than 20% of Feast and Dance work in the slightest, whereas season 6 was very good before stalling slightly these last two episodes.

So turns out Steve Love had a cameo here. The Hound axed his throat.

Finally watched the episode for the third time.
My first two views were marred by a very bad day I was having.
I would have to say I liked the ep a lot better now. I actually thought the Jaime scenes were the best.
After him being sidelined for most of the season it was nice to see the Kingslayer back in the forefront.

I noticed in some episode reviews that people were lamenting the lack of emotional progress in Jaime. I disagree.
In his scene with Brienne' we see the real Jaime, a lot less arrogant and willing to compromise and help Brienne.

With his scene with Edmure, I think he starts out geniune, offering to help Edmure reunite with his wife and child.
But since Edmure constantly keeps telling Jaime, that he is a dishonorable, evil man. Jaime switches to the role that
Edmure expects, threatening cruelty instead and guess what Edmure believes that instead and it works.

I agree, Don. God knows I hated Jaime being wasted in KL this season, but he does shine when he's away from Cersei. The wonderful thing about the Edmure-Jaime scene is that it's so honest, even with Jaime acting his reputation. And I'm glad they didn't make Edmure a wuss. He was fantastic.
